when aht'urhgan came out, my friend and i tried to be the 1st blu and cor 75 on carbuncle... but there were some insane jp out there that either were robotic, or didn't sleep. it was literally like: level, they're leveling. goto work, they're 2 levels higher. level some more, they're 2 levels higher. eat dinner, they're 2 levels higher. goto sleep and wake up, they're 2 levels higher... repeat, repeat, repeat. we eventually gave up at lv65, but those jp(vun and ark) were unreal
Did that on Rag too. Set of JP got COR, BLU and PUP to 75 in about 2.5 days.
Reference to SE's tendency to gradually release an expansion over a series of updates spanning a couple years.Originally Posted by Epical

Update Feb 2006 Added Brenner, 18 man avatar battles, apoc nigh, Dyn. Tavnazia, GP items like spinning and chainwork, and i'm sure alot of other crap i'm missing. They update a lot of things, it was the update that made 1m the max you could send, made chargeable items more colorful, and added the moogle rod for the following months Fan Festival.
The wiki doesn't have the item list, here's links.

Its fun to look at somepage's news updates, as they show just how much Aht Urgan spam came out in the 2 months before the expansions release.
The December 2005 update previous was the giant BST pisser offer, with the CoP dynamis zones/+1 relic gear added. DRG's finally got a 2 hour, and BLM's lost their ultra chain camp in Lumoria. Cooks got 2 ridiculous key items, and there was a bunch of crap added to fishing.
The december update is analogous to the June Einjherjar update, the current update is where the February update goes. We're kind of used to updates for the last year being awesome because of what they fix / add / whatever. That started with the ToAU update, which outside of prepping for the expansion was itself a massive change for stuff in game. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't update with the last stage / fix for Ein~ in the next 2 months, but I doubt we'll see another massive update until WOG. And if its anything like the Aht Urgan update, it'll be a doozy.
am I the only one who hated that stupid ferry pass crap with a fucking passion?
I mean, like the absolute last fucking thing I wanted to do while waiting to get my hands on the new expansion content I'd been looking at for like 2-3 days was sit around in a small, confined room in jeuno with like half the fucking server for hours to trade my key, then ANOTHER hour to get my pass, then like 45 minutes for the ferry to get to mhaura and bring me to whitegate.
plus it made getting a mule there a pain unless you could dualbox a seperate account
The main reason I would say they did that was to stagger the flow of entry into Al Zahbi and prevent overcrowding. All the previous expansions did something like this too - kinda like making people work for their access.
Zilart's one was key collecting, which wasn't the best idea because everyone ended up farming for keys early on and there was sheer overcrowding in those areas.
Promathia's proved too effective. The (initial) rewards for getting access weren't particularly worth it either, so instead of staggering a massive influx of people, it ended up stemming a large portion of it.
Aht Urhgan's was good because it was item collection just like Zilart's but there was a whole bunch of items you could use to trade and gain access, preventing any major overcrowding problems. The day-wait system also helped this, as did the ferry. But the popularity of Whitegate proved too strong, so it still got overcrowded.
If they put someone that gives you your pass in Sando/Bastok/Windy too, it would've been nicer.
I'm inclined to think there will be one update between now and WotG release, based on previous years and expansion releases. There should be an update at the end of October/start of November, and then again at the end of December/start of January. I'm not sure what to think though, since I heard they are trying to get WotG out by Christmas. There have only been 3 sets of updates this year, with a 4th on the way before the end of the year. In previous years there have been 5-6 updates throughout. Surely they don't consider adding Chocobo Racing (March 29, after the March 8 update) and The Pit separate updates enough to cut down on their regular ones...Originally Posted by Apelila
Seems to be they've just been getting lazier, but I think we all knew that already.I want my "fix random stuff" update that they usually do. They haven't done one for pre-WotG yet.

I noticed that the first job on Odin to 75 was a JP PUP (I maybe wrong, but I checked quite often) and they xped with the same people for like 2 days straight. I don't think that sleep was really an option for them.Originally Posted by Pergo

I was thinking that they would not have another update before the expansion this year until I heard this potential release date, which is later than I thought, so I think mid-October for another update. They have not be lazier, in fact in just total size the updates have been bigger than in the past, its just that the content is much more varied, so things like Chocobo raising and racing don't effect people that don't do it. So to you it might appear smaller, but in sheer content size the updates are much better.Originally Posted by Wizerd

Yes they were. lol. Also on the GameStop TV DVD for this month (the video that loops constantly in almost every GameStop), there is the trailer for Wings, and it gives the release date of Dec. 3rd.Wasn't Gamestop taking preorders for Starcraft: Ghost for a while? We all know how that turned out >_>
Would seem to make sense to get the expansion out in Dec. since it'd make a good christmas present.

I thought there was also mention of it being indefinite (i.e. it isn't coming out). But I can't find that source.Editor: What is happening with the development of the Pit and Colosseum?
Ogawa: The plan for the Pit is complete but the staff is working on so much that we can't find a free hand to work on it (lol). We plan to implement it this year so you can look foward to that. As for the Colosseum, that's on hold.
