Would seem to make sense to get the expansion out in Dec. since it'd make a good christmas present.

Maybe I'm naive towards the less hardcore playerbase... but I don't think an expansion to a MMORPG is exactly a highly sought after item for Christmas... If it comes out on Dec. 3rd, I'm buying it for myself on Dec. 3rd... if it comes out Dec. 24th, I'm braving the crowds and getting it Dec. 24th... I can't see someone asking for it for Christmas, and waiting a few weeks to get it...

I don't think it would sell any better or worse during the Christmas season than it would during the summer.

Also, I don't even see many people buying the whole FFXI package as a gift - unless someone specifically asks for it (which is unlikely giving that the game will be over 4 years old in the US come Christmas)... I'd be kinda pissed/annoyed if someone bought me lolWorld of Warcraft for Christmas... MMORPG's are a lousy gift in that they require a monthly financial commitment from the recipient.

Well they actually can work on it more now that the main story for AU is out, as well as all the missions and salvage changes. Everything's near completion, leaving only a few things to update us with like Pit / Collusseum (why has everyone forgot about this? ) , and then just before the patch we'll be getting shitty updates or 'tween' updates, that'll help us shift from ToaU to WotG, or just completely random events much like that avatar allience battle.

Their main team will be moving onto the WotG content while they leave a few people to create Treasure stuffs.

No it isn't. The Pit is the monster vs monster thing and is being released soon. The Colosseum is different, and is on hold. Whether they'll actually finish the idea they had for the Colosseum is unknown.

But they might be separate from each other in function.

EDIT: Upon looking at Whitegate map, they do seem to be separate features, just same zone.
EDIT2: Maybe you can feature your Pankration pet as an obstacle in the Colosseum, if it is a gladiator-arena thing. Perhaps with beastman slaves. :D

Whether they'll actually finish the idea they had for the Colosseum is unknown.

Now that I think of it, this supports the idea of 1 more update after Pankration. It'd neatly tie off ToAU with 4 "Battles Unfought" and 4 "New Adventures" (as seen on the website).

As for what it'd be, possibly PCs + NPCs vs. other PCs + NPCs, or simply more deathmatch-based rather than Ballista/Brenner's more strategic/CTF goals. Or maybe you can't fight the other PCs (or it isn't the main goal), and instead you have to defeat more enemies than the other(s).

There appears to be two maps in the Colosseum. One has the subheading "The Pit" with four rooms, which matches up with the 3 exhibition and 1 tournament cages mentioned in the announcement. There is also a second map with no subheading, and only one room. I'm guessing this other map was meant to be the (non-Pit) Colosseum map. Both maps take you directly to Whitegate, so we know one isn't just an antechamber for the other.

My guess is the non-Pit map won't be used until/if they add the (non-Pit) Colosseum event.

You are naive towards the less hardcore playerbase.

Just as there are 25+ year olds playing who support themselves and would not flinch at a expansion there are also young people playing with their parents permission and their credit information (who do not work or go to school fulltime). There are also people in less privledged countries where the equivalent of a $30 expansion is a significant chunk of their salaries.

MMORPGs aren't a lousy gift if its something that will make someone happy.

Island of Wut trailer was better.

I think that the Wings of the Goddess trailer is better, but it is pretty much my exact artistic vision. Plus it only took 2 weeks of work, where as Island of Wut took over a month. It has a much better time/non-appreciation ratio if you look at the number of posts generated.

You mean the like... millions? Everything you guys do around here contributes to the community being what it is, don't measure how much people appreciate specific things by how much they respond to them directly, but by how much people start coming here and keep coming here. By those measurements there's no question at this point the majority of serious endgame players these days appreciate what you do, even if they don't post at all, let alone directly in response. /brownnose off
