    Shouts

How far do shouts go? I was told they dont reach the whole ares sometimes? Anything releated to the number of people loaded in? Should I stand in the center of Whitegate to hear shouts better?

Curious about this too. I'm sure distance does factor in. I was in Mount Z when it was fairly empty and a friend at the runic portal was /shouting at me while i was xping on eruca and i couldn't "hear" him. I'm not sure if # of PCs factor in as well, but i know standing at assault area in whitegate i won't get all the shouts i would at the AH area.

There is a shout radius, but it's pretty large. I know if you stand on the far side of whitegate like by/in the assault order building you will miss a good portion of shouts from MH/AH areas, or from Jeuno MH's to the gates.

I'd put it at 3-4 map squares or so on shout range.

edit: Ran a quick test, it's even less than that, 2-2 1/2 map squares.

That's not a very good test, since maps aren't all drawn using the same scale. (meaning, a map of a small area, one "map square" representss a small area, while a large zone with the same size map has squares that represent a larger area. in simpler words, in a small map it takes 5 seconds to walk from one side of a map square to another, while in another zone it could take 30seconds)

Test was done in Port Bastok. Gives you a non-arbitrary idea of how far at least.

    Re: Shouts

mmm wow... so ya.... zoning from alzabi to WG n back shouting for something will miss lotsa ppl that are close to assault area.

...and now I definetly wont wait for Assault shouts near Assault area anymore.

Speaking of shouts, what was that website that let you see the shouts in Whitegate? The link in the old topic doesn't work anymore.

http://translate.google.com/translat...language_tools was the url but it no longer works. I think the JPs got tired of getting their bandwidth raeped after the link was posted on alla.

    Re: Shouts

I don't understand why they just don't turn the /shout channel into a local zone-wide channel like WoW or Lineage...

But the Taru's higher pitched voices totally carry farther; think of a baby crying.

Sorry but no, lower frequency sounds travel over greater distances (though higher frequency sounds allow for better discernment of the location of the source of the sound). The Galka win this one.
