PSX (Suikoden II) emulation help

So like people suggested to me in the RPG discussion forum to play Suikoden II, I finally have time to sit down and do it. I'm not sure if I'm just retarded, it doesn't like emulators, or what, but I can't get it to work right. Whenever I play it, the sound skips multiple times a second, or in one emulator's case, the video freezes shortly into the intro and the sound stops skipping.

I've used:
PSXeven 0.019: video is fine, sound skips multiple times a second
PSX 1.13: video is fine/sound skips for about 5 seconds, then the video freezes and the sound goes on without skipping
ePSXe 1.60: video is fine, sound skips multiple times a second

I've also downloaded the Suikoden II image from 2 different places, one was a .nrg and the other a bin/cue, same problem with both. I also took a real PS1 CD, my FFT, and it runs fine in each of the emulators. Also have tried different video and audio plugins in ePSXe, as well as just about unchecking and checking everything along with changing all the dropdown boxes.

I'm really at a wit's end here, is there anything in particular that I could be doing wrong? Maybe there's an emulator I'm missing or a setting or something, any help would be appreciated. Also googled around a bit but it didn't seem like people were having a widespread problem with it (like it not being emulatable well or something). Out for a couple hours for work but I'll be back tonight, thanks again for any help.

Use ePSXe and configure the sound plugin until it stops.

try ePSXe 1.5.2 while you're at it. 1.6 broke some games
