Lots of your people say its not what you know its who you know and i will tell you right now i got my job thru a friend i made at college and not by being a qualified individual. i never had a job interview and to this day i have never met my "boss" face to face
I enrolled at my University under Mechanical Engineering. A year later, I found my desire to continue lacking. I then worked with my school's counseling and testing center over career tests.
Pretty much everything that came back as "ideal" for me was heavily people-oriented and decision making (Actor/Musician, PR rep, Managers/Exec, Salesman, etc.).
Using that, I enrolled with the college of Arts and Sciences under their Advertising/PR program, but found it a little too cutthroat (the program and the job path), so I changed a little to Interpersonal Communication. Since that's a "fluff" major, I grounded myself with two minors, one in Business, and one in Marketing.
It paid off, I'm currently employed with a large hospital system based in Florida, and I'm training along the contract negotiator path.
Since I like it so much, I'm working on my GRE to go back for a master's in Health Administration.
Was in Industrial Engenieering, didnt like it.
Probably going to study something in Canada or stay here and study Law.

I graduated in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts in History with a minor in Political Science from the University of Victoria. I focused my history studies on military history and human conflict, whereas my PoliSci focus was on Canadian public policy and intergovernmental relations.
While I went to university (took me 5 years for my BA b/c of working) I worked/managed a local EBGames location and was there for nearly 6 years - I acutally started at the store in the summer before my senior year at highschool and quit on New Years Day 2006, just before my last semester at UVic. After I graduated I was searching for jobs mostly in provincial governments looking for work as a policy analyst or communications writer. To pay the bills I worked at a local pizza place for nearly 10 months before getting my current job. The pizza place was pretty fun to work at, and as a delivery driver the tips were pretty awesome. I even met my girlfriend of 9 months now there.
Currently, I work for a privately-owned wind energy development company here in Victoria. My title is 'Communications & Public Relations Officer' but I will end up doing just about anything that's not technical: ie. policy analysis, government relations, working with wind industry and lobby groups, writing newsletters and press releases, and, of course, writing lots of briefing notes. Even though the work can be slow and a bit irritating, I really like the industry I'm in. This company is currently set to build B.C.'s first wind farm with construction starting in the next week or so; we hope to have it fully operational by 2009. The reason I wanted to work for government, aside from parents that both did that between academic pursuits, is my desire to do work that is beneficial to the public good. Maybe I would be happy as a hedge fund manager raking in hundreds of thousands of dollars a year, but I think I would find all that terribly hollow and unfulfilling. But I'm not willing to work for peanuts either, and luckily this job pays pretty well based on my experience, but I could always use a 20% raise here and there, heh.
PS: I'm posting from my office. Still waiting to hear back from the President on these BCTC submissions so I'm killing time this morning lol
So that makes only 2 Philosophy majors lol. I'm working as a Valet right now in Phoenix, I have a feeling that's not going to change when I get my degree.
Lotsa Computer Science, guess I could see that coming.
