What did you major in?

Starting my first year of Engineering at the University of Calgary on Monday. You pick a specific strand after the first year, I'm leaning towards computer, electrical or civil. Don't know for sure yet. :x

Last year at Tufts undergrad, BA in Bio and English in process, then on to dental school.

There are very few liberal arts BA degrees alone that are worth a damn, ill include Bio and English in that category. For the money, business related, like econ, finance, etc... are the best bang for the buck. But seeing as you are taking philosophy, which like my general areas of interest is not very business oriented, then just enjoy what you are doing and go for it. Its a pretty common platform for law school, if you have any interest =/. Alone tho, Im not sure what it will get you.

lolsociology. In all seriousness, I basically took sociology because I was honestly interested in what I was learning. I was always of the frame of mind that any job I got afterwards would be mostly irrelevant to the material I studied. It was more about the critical thinking practices I learned and applied throughout my time and my improved ability to do thorough research.

Granted if I had to pay for the tuition I probably would have gone into economics lol.

Exactly why I'm doing Philosophy.

I'm happy to see that there were some other people out there who went to university to learn and enrich their lives instead of just going through the motions to get the piece of paper.

comp sci with a math minor....because it's only 2 extra classes ><. Only 2 semesters left, then maybe grad school...although I read an article that suggests getting a game programmer job may not be helped all that much by grad school. ;;

Having done game programming for a while, I can tell you that it isn't really all it's cut out to be.

What's a bunch? Game programmers have historically made considerably less than other types of programmers. And you typically have to work grueling hours.

Double majored in Econ/International Relations.

If I had to do it over again, I'd major in electrical or mechanical engineering and go to law school, instead of do what I did and go to law school. Patent law trumps most of the other practice areas in terms of pay and also in terms of billable hours [edit: when I say trumps, I mean the average intellectual property associate is required to bill 1800 hours, and the average biglaw associate is required to bill upwards of 2000 hours] required of associates.

I guess I could always go back after the JD and get an engineering or computer science degree.

Bachelor of Design with a "major" in character design / illustration. Going back to school for one year in January, because I'm a glutton for punishment (Classical Animation). I dont actually want to BE an animator, but the training's good for a lot of other things.

Currently working two shitty jobs to save money, because it's not cool to in apply for some sort of illustration/design position at a big company and then take off 3 months later.

Right now I'm in my final class for my AA degree, (57/60 creds so far and I graduated high school in 2006)

In EMT school right now, I'll be done in December, and hopefully state certified by February.

After EMT, I'm taking nursing pre-reqs and joining a nursing program. Dunno If I'll stay at FCCJ (Florida Community College at Jacksonville) and go with it, or move onto University of Florida. Community college should be easier but living on campus at UF would be amazing. Then again, med school at UF... would I even have any time for fun? Hmm... I still have time to decide. At least a year anyway.
