Dragonball Z Live Action movie

No matter what it has to be entertaining. Epic win, and its a good movie. Epic fail, and it's a hilariously awesome movie. Especially since the budget is over 9000.....seriously though, if they have a sense of humor about the movie, I think it'll be a lot better than if they try to take it seriously.

I also read that Akira toriyama the creator of DBZ wanted too much control over the project. So FOX basically removed him from the equation by making him sign some contract.

so maybe they're gonna stray away from the original story? and try for a more real approach.

That's probably the only way it would work, which is why they would make that move.

Did anyone see Casshern? Cause that's what I keep imagining when I try to picture an attempt at live action DBZ (mostly the weird imitation anime-style hair thing. And the actors taking themselves way to seriously).

Casshern was barely ok, but mostly because of theweird story the movie. I can't imagine any scene from dragonball that could be turned into something that look serious. Gather 7 balls and make a wish? Giant monkey? Tournament? Strong villains comming out of nowhere?

Future Trunk is probably the only one that have a backstory that could be turned into a movie. Lot of death and serious moment, and can be explained in 1h30.

Future Trunks might be the only plotline that might end up being both serious and good, but that wouldn't stop them from trying something else anyway. There are plenty of movies that try to build a movie around a fighting tournament (DOA, Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat). It just doesn't end up working out so well.

Also, like the innumerable DBZ anime movies, they could just throw the characters into a vaguely new plot with a new stock villain (named asparagus maybe?)

The technology certainely is there for an awesome DBZ movie. Nobody can tell me they weren't thinking "Goku vs. Vegeta" during the last 20 minutes of Matrix Revolutions.

DBZ is not something I want in Live Action...but I don't really like any Live Action versions of anime, they all just look horrible to me.

Also, this series ended how long ago? Just seems too late as well.

I don't think you realise the scope of the mass appeal this anime has. Dragonball Z is like a 3 billion dollar enterprise. It's insanely popular, from the tv show, to movies, to video games, to action figures, to cereal boxes you name it.

If America cared about Dragonball, they wouldn't have waited 8 years to dub GT. And cut out the first season. And 2/3 of any episode with panties.

Well.... I guess you could say it might be "watchable," given how everyone at the moment has the absolutely lowest expectation of the movie lawl

(unless the producers are tards and hire somebody to make a really awesome trailer for it, which is doable for any shitty movie)

Exactly what I was thinking. I heard of them getting the rights to a DBZ movie shortly before Revolutions and didn't think a DBZ movie could be any good, then I saw that fight in Revolutions and thought: well damn, that would fit right into a DBZ movie.

With the amount of investment into the movie, it definately has a chance to be well done. If it sux, well... then at least we have a kungfu movie that shoots lazer beams, and thats almos as good as sharks with lazers attatched to their heads.
