    fucking contacts

    I've worn contact lenses before, but switched to glasses due to them annoying the hell out of my eyes. That was about 3 years ago. I picked up wearing glasses again but after my eyes got more worse over time I had the option to up the prescription of my glasses or get contacts again. I chose to wear contact lenses again (this was about 8 months ago now) and now they are bothering the fuck out of me. My eyes are now bloodshot while wearing them and while I am not, I now open my eyes half way due to the fact that they are so dry, looks like I am high 24/7. I have Acuvue Oasys with Hydroclear Plus, they are two week lenses, 10 days if I sleep with them in, which I don't. I like contacts, but yeah my eyes sure don't. Any better brand out there? Should I go with the ones where you throw away each day? Halp.

    Re: fucking contacts

    do you ever rinse them with some of that cleaning solution? also, always wash your hands before you put them in and take them out, could be you're getting shit in your eyes from your hands (oils, dirt, dust, etc).

    When was the last time your prescription changed? It'd been like 3 years or more for me, so I went and checked out lasik and got it done. It's been phenominal for me, had no problems, etc.

    Re: fucking contacts

    No, I don't rinse them in the solution, I just re-fill the case with new contact solution and keep them in there for the night. It says "rinse-free" all over the bottle, but I'm sure it's always a good idea to rinse anyway? And when taking them out/in, I usually just get my hands wet with water :X. Also, my prescription got worse over the course of three years. Like -2.00 worse in both eyes. I am nearly blind if I don't wear contacts/glasses, -5.25 @_@;;

    yay for sitting close to tvs in dark rooms

    Re: fucking contacts

    -Never- get your hands wet with water when touching your contacts. EVER. Seriously, its a really bad idea. You can get bacteria from there that will make you blind.

    Always wash your hands before touching your eyes or contacts, and dry them promptly. Make sure you contacts aren't inside out. If you aren't sure which way is the correct way, hold it on a finger and look at it from the side. The sides of the contact should go up, they shouldn't be wavy or anything. If you still aren't sure, put a contact in your eye, and if it feels weird or funny (for me it feels like they are slipping off) flip them inside out and try again. Inside-out contacts will make your eyes hurt.

    Wash your contacts with the solution. When you take them out of your eyes, put a contact in the palm of your hand. Squirt cleaning solution into your palm and gently rub the contact with it for like 15-30 seconds. You can flip it inside out and do that side too, but I usually just get the solution all around the contact, rub it gently on the outside, then let the solution go inside the lens and rub it in there.

    Check for debris before you put in contact lenses, it doesn't matter how clean or tidy I try to be, sometimes I get little fibers on the lenses that I just pull away softly.

    Also, when cleaning the case, use hot hot hot water, and try your best not to let it mix with the cleaning solution. While a drop or two inside the case won't hurt you, if its a substantial amount, you could get fucked.

    If you clean the case and lenses properly, they shouldn't hurt you. Consider buying eye drops, I use ones called "Blink" for when it feels dry. If they still hurt, go to a doctor and ask them to look at your lenses. Sometimes certain lenses just don't react well with an individual's eyes.

    Edit: More information of the bacteria you can get from water + contact lenses. It basically eats away at the cornea.

    Get an up to date prescription. I usually go once a year and get an eye check up. Always wash your hands before you even think of messing with your contacts. I have the no-rub solution, but my eye doctor recommended I pour some in my palm and rub my contacts clean every time before putting them in (like you normally would). It also doesn't hurt to carry around some form of eye drops, especially if you have allergies. Make sure you get a kind that is specifically for contacts though (Visine has a type for contacts). I've been wearing contacts for six years now and I've never had a problem. </3 glasses, contacts are the way to go!

    I have those same exact contacts, they fucking blow. I went to my optometrist a week ago and he told me im developing blood vessels in my cornea because they dont let in enough air. Ive been wearing glasses now, meaning to get a new brand of contacts prescribed.

    You might be alergic to the cleaning stuff that your using. My friend was allergic to some chremical they were putting into the lens cleaner, he changed cleaners and has been fine ever since.

    Try this. I got new contacts over the summer and they killed me after 2-3 days of wearing them, went back to the doctor and he told me to try a different kind of solution. I was using Renu, switched to Aquify and haven't had a problem since. There's also an OTC (over the counter) anti-allergenic eye drop you can buy called Zaditor (spelling may be off a bit but it's close), try putting a few drops of it in your eyes 10-15 minutes before you put them in, and again when you take them out at night.

    If none of this works you could be allergic to the lens itself, in which case your doctor may have you try a couple of different pairs for a couple of days each until you find some that don't bother you.

    I had the same issue. But then again I was wearing my contacts for up to 16 hours a day and also way past their expiration date. Every contact lens is pretty pourous, but as you wear them the pores start to close the older the contact is.

    Another thing to consider is the diameter of the lens. You essentially want a lens that will slide around your eye a little, instead of being rigid and stuck and not sliding around. That means your lens is too tight and you're cutting off oxygen to your eyes. And that's why it's always important to have an up to date prescription as well as the correct measurements because our eyes do tend to change.

    I no longer wear my contact lenses to work. I find that office settings have very dry air, and sitting in front of a computer screen all day doesn't make matters any easier. I also recommend carrying around a small bottle of re-wetting drops if you are prone to dry eyes.

    get focus night & day contacts, i think they let more oxygen in the eye than nearly any other brand. my eyes never go bloodshot and i have the luxury of sleeping in them. you're supposed to wear them for just a month and toss them but i wear them until they're too dirty/irritating to be cleaned (i'll clean them occasionally). my eyes are slightly dry in the mornings for about 2 minutes. but other than that they're an amazing step up from what i used to wear.

    my favorite product next to b+drier.

    Another vote for FOCUS Night & Day contacts. I just had my prescription renewed a few weeks ago and got a trial pair of some Mediflex lenses that, while having nice viewing power, irritated the fuck out of my eyes. I ordered the Night & Day lenses online (to get a discount from my extended medical insurance) and really liked them. I used them before a few years ago and they're very comfortable and I get good viewing power.

    What's been killing me is this fucking cold I've had. It seems like whenever I get stuffed up my eyes start to either dry out or become irritated more easily.

    Likewise, infact I hardly wear mine at all anymore. It doesn't seem to matter what type/brand of contact lens I wear, the astigmatism in my right eye (right eye only though) makes it feel like it's poking me in the eye every time I blink. I am hoping I can just get the damn surgery one day, such a hassel between glasses and contacts all the time.

    That and like Nore said, offices have very dry air.

    Good comment about the offices. I often do the same, but then put my contacts in when I go out at night or am spending time with the girlfriend.

    However, I didn't notice much of a problem when I worked retail in a hard-core air conditioned and climate controlled mall. There's definitely something about staring at your computer for a while in that dry air environment that makes your eyes go nuts. Sorry eyes ; ;

    Yep, that's exactly what I do. And my fiance too.
