Re: Looking for a hosting solution

imo, you're worrying too much about these reviews.

For example, this WebHostingBuzz has 11 reviews, that's 11 people out of potentially tens of thousands of clients they have.

Every company makes mistakes, they could potentially have 99.9% of their clients perfectly happy.

Re: Looking for a hosting solution

I basically Google hostname reviews and count how many positive reviews I can find for every bad one. If more than 25% of those reviews make it sound as a bad idea then I discard that host. That included, but wasn't limited to, the review site I posted before. While doing this, I noticed that there are sites dedicated to positively review a single host, but they are really likely to have been built by the same host (like http://www.webhostingbuzzreviews.com/), you can find one of those sites for almost each host out there, I don't even read them.

And a tip I was given when searching a host says the following: "Don't go for something that you don't actually need even if the price is same. If you need just 50 MB and 2 GB bandwidth go for a plan that gives them Don't go for one which gives 50 GB and 20 GB for that price.". Those sites that oversell themselves by offering Terabytes of bandwidth and hundreds of GBs of storage are often unreliable and have awful conditions in their not so much advertised and sometimes difficult to find Terms of Service (which I also take the time to read).

i do the same except i read forums and not 'review sites' since like you said, most are created by those who have an interest in whatever hosting company that supports it. so i like to listen to the people who actually use the service. i found this: which was one of the guys from webhostingbuzz speaking about that

Jedito, cheap.... there's plenty of sites that have positive reviews, and you link to the two negative, especially webhostingjury.com that refuses hosts to have accounts to respond to comments. Most on webhostingjury.com are fraudulent of account misusers who have had their accounts suspended for breach of TOS.
    this isn't bad either http://www.findmyhosting.com/listallplans.asp?host=6027

try using this as a resource: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/

I've also used WebHostingTalk as an user experience source since Killgannon mentioned it, maybe I didn't explain myself correctly, but webhostjury isn't the only place I look into. I also look the host's forums, but I consider them less reliable, as there are many cases were posts stating a bad experience with the service get deleted.

Besides, I got the advice from my previous post in WHT, and 90% of people there will tell you to stay away from hosts that oversell themselves.

Even if I didn't care of the opinion formed on the former research, their conditions hidden in the Terms of Service are just unacceptable for what I need.
