I recently used WHM/NIN Templar/Asklepios for Einharjar, and it was really beneficial, with how crazy things can get in there, and the big cures you have to toss out sometimes, shadows+damage down macro > damage down only macro.

I must have missed the memo, I guess.

Conserve MP is an average MP savings of 12.5%. Auto-refresh is 20MP/minute. If you're using more than 160MP/minute, you're better off with conserve MP. If you're not using more than 160MP/minute, you're a waste of a slot.

I keep seeing Bahamut referenced for using /NIN. I always am /SMN for it and am kinda curious why /NIN? The way we fight it, I'm always to the side and out of range of Touchdown or Sweeping Flail. The only thing that ever touches me is Megaflare, if it gets turned wrong and I don't get out of the way quick enough. But I don't think shadows would help with that. Just kinda curious of other strategies.

How the hell do you use 160 MP per minute?

Baha2 is done in 30 secounds why do you need /nin?

As nice as it would be for all linkshells to have enough kraken DRKs to do that, it's not actually an option for everyone.

Not that it'll change anyone's mind but here's my $0.02 about WHM sub jobs.

/SMN = pretty much all HNMs and dynamis, I prefer the bonuses of autorefresh to Conserve MP, nice MND bonus, Shining Ruby should never be overlooked at HNMs. Aerial Armor if you are actually using PLD/WAR.

/BLM = sky and sea (except JoL, I still prefer /SMN for him) also small man farming. Escape is really useful in these areas as it the ability to sleep things that you might accidentally aggro. If you are doing some small man farming it's also a useful sub for enfeebles/tractor/etc. especially if you don't have a RDM.

/NIN = melee solo, situational uses like co-tanking, any small man operation where the WHM has a high change of pulling hate or needs to stand close to a mob that has moves that do a lot of damage if you don't have shadows.

/DRK = exp if you want to be a bit more useful than just curing and hasting. Never underestimate the utility of a spare stun. This is especially useful if you are in a PT w/o stun in it and you're exping off of BLM mobs.

    regen III 66 mp
    cure V 135 mp
    cure IV 88 mp
    cure III 46 mp
    Haste 40 mp

gee, I don't know. how would you use 160 MP in one minute? (incidentally, I thought it was 7%? or is 12.5% assuming magnetic? even at 7% /blm is better in almost every situation that you actually care about your SJ.)

    Divide your MP by /minute.

Sure you might spend 1 minute casting those, but you dont cast those EVERY minute of the entire fight.

just. wow. 3 hastes and 2 regen III's on cycle alone is more than 160mp / min.

This seems like the correct answer.
Nay, because /nin is never useful, not even in the situations he listed. (ultima? rofl)

You solo mage 3 tank parties?

You don't ever have 3 melee to yourself?

Fine: humor you - 2 tank party (pld pld brd brd rdm whm) rdm is covering both tanks for haste.

You just need to cast (wait for it)..

    1 cure III a minute in addition to the dual regen III cycle;

or even better! 2 erase a minute! tops!

Apparently you either don't understand how little 160mp really is, or you're bad at math; I'm really not sure which.

Since you are refering to the common Wyrm tank party, I will give you an idea (Similiar to Sylphets) of which and why. Which aside

    Wyrm Shining ruby
    Fafnir /war + AA and 2 X WHM
Dyna You aren't casting 50% of the time let alone 100%, and AA on tanks is wonderful. Sure conserve MP is great for times when you are casting, I will take a PLD that survives the run back to camp with minimal damage.
    Sky/Sea (inside) Escape beats everything.
    Khim/Cerb 2 x WHM

I wish more WHM's would come /DRK to my burn PT's. I've only had one JP taru do it, and she was great with stuns.

oh I see, you lost the numbers game so now you'll talk about situational use. ok. (for the record, you're the one who brought up multiple tank parties, I just quoted you a common setup)

    Wyrm Shining ruby
when I still did wyrms we used 2 whm rdm brd nin nin for ours, with a third pld tank outside (edit: for air tanking); so one would typically go whm/blm and the other whm/smn. (why? because one shining ruby is all you need and /blm is better outside of single trick bloodpacts)

    Fafnir /war + AA and 2 X WHM
    so 2005.

    you pull with paladins?

and if you aren't casting 50% of the time in dyna then your ls isn't pulling fast enough or you have too many healers.

I'll counter: your mp bar gets refilled so much in dyna that you shouldn't be running out whether you're casting fast or not, so I'll take sleepga for backing up the rdms/blms over lolAA on melee/nin and tanks that are running every-which-way any day.

    Sky/Sea (inside) Escape beats everything.
    Khim/Cerb 2 x WHM
the rate you should be casting for gods/khim/cerb you'll want /blm conserve mp anyway. especially since both tank du jour have shadows native that AA does nothing for.

even if you want shining ruby for khim/cerb, you'll still put only one whitemage on it, not both.

WHM/NIN was very useful when we did Bahamut vII in the horrible, old, slow, hideously painful way. But then we discovered the awesome, new, fast, gloriously wonderful way. But if there was a need for WHM/NIN, the Asklepios and Templar Mace combo would be very nice.

Even then I used /nin once, thought to my self "what the fuck is this shit?" and never used it again. I think niro still used it to get barspells on but stoneskin and attentive comrades is just as effective.

I'd use templar/seveneyes myself. I'd rather tack on hp and conserve mp than lose (a lot of) hp while increasing my hate generation. I did actually use temp/seven once when kiting KV and it worked rather nicely. But I guess not everyone has access to seveneyes.

    Re: Asklepios + Templar mace

I have seveneys, and I'd rather keep Asklepios offhand and switch templar and seveneys depending on what I'm casting (since I would have to rewrite all my macros otherwise) and 5% more cure potency is greater than +7 conserve MP for casting cures. HP isn't an issue except for flare then it is easy to adjust equipment appropriately. I've done both /blm and /nin on baha2 and if there is a place where I can be safe from sweeping flail while still being in range of tanks and out of flare, I'd love to know where that is. Until then I'd stay /nin for that.

Ultima is personal preference. Unless your tanks never lose hate even after eating citadel buster and popping invincible just to have it keep beating on me, then more power to you. I've done it plenty but my current group has only done it twice so there is still plenty of room for improvement and I'd rather err on the side of caution and not die.

For KV kiting it is full haste and damage reduction.
