Re: Strategies to Defeat AV (All Theories/Ideas Here)

Just a thought for someone to test (I cannot, as I don't have any reliable sleep spells). Do these aerns build up a resistance to sleep at all? If they can be kept asleep indefinitely without Elemental Seal, then there might be something with keeping specific job pairs alive, like stated before. If there are 2 WHM spawns who share a spot with 2 other jobs, then keep the two other jobs up and asleep so that their jobs are 'known' without .dat tweaks.

Even if this theory doesn't pan out, I think it'd be nice to know if the resistance goes up at all. If it does, then I'm not sure this theory has much merit. lol.

Re: Strategies to Defeat AV (All Theories/Ideas Here)

Anyone have any clue where our video & information that would be "earth shattering" about how to beat AV, which the Dev team promised at FanFest is? This is exactly why I boo'd so badly when they said they'd been too busy putting out the expansion to beat AV at FanFest for us.

I know they've been really busy fixing all the holes & gaps in production from WotG, but a huge player base is dedicated to this ideal, and it's pretty freakin' outrageous.

Perhaps they're busy designing the new Cheese Sandwich...

the video is a lie? (sorry. i couldn't help myself.) has any speculation been put forth regarding the effect of the new "item" they're releasing to combat AV? i can think of only a few things, and i'm afraid my 4th entry is the one they're going to try.
    1.) temporarily lock 2hrs.
    2.) temporarily lock spells.
    3.) temporarily lock JA.
    4.) temporarily lock regen.
have any other suggestions been made as to the item and its use?

I'm sitting in the corner of "they attempted to fight AV, realised that the locking mechanism (whatever it may be) does not work and are now implementing an item which does" most likely made from some drop in sea be it current or new, hopefully they will listen to the other suggestions of making AV spawnable from a drop from JoL but that would probably be too much to ask.

I can see it now, another SE joke like Taisajin. Trade each Jailer Weapon to a different Ebon Panel to recieve a ex item for each. Trade all of the ex items to someone in safehold to recieve an item that works like an Anima to Absolute Virtue for 30 seconds.

Several interview questions about AV singled out and stressed AV's 2hours is the problem yet they continued to say regen. I mean come on, did SE really have to show us a video? could they of not just flat out told us what to do as in basic strategy to enfeeble it?

Thats why i call bullshit, all they had to do is make cliffnotes about how to fight AV and relay it @ the fanfest instead of giving a lame excuse "we didn't have enough time to defeat AV." Why was it so hard for the dev's to look up AV in their code/mob database or w/e that holds AV's infomation and give us the cliffnote verison of how to lock it or get it to a tame enough state to be able to kill it?

yes, but this is why a video is so effective. it forces them to actually revisit it and try to best it. they won't. they can't. reality has a good habit of dragging people out of their dreamworld. will the video produce any real results? doubt it. will it force the dev team to realize from experience that it can't be beaten? yeah. probably. that's what i'm hoping to get out of the video.

"we didn't have enough time to defeat AV."
Comming from someone in the game design feild, this is actually common place. Deadlines are extreamly tight, and it's not unheard of to have people spending the night and sleeping under their desks to reclaim the hours they lose in the drive in/out. The QA process is ever worse (Test Teams). If a AV video is made, it will be done with the QA and maybe the Dev team.

Re: Strategies to Defeat AV (All Theories/Ideas Here)

I don't work for SE, or FFXI, however sometimes the approach is simply …

“This needed to be released today, we are aware it’s not perfect, but it’s not serious enough to cripple our users systems we will patch it in a few days”

In the real world, nothing is bug free, there are known issues and unknown issues, and tring to resolve everything before a release is an impossible task.

I only get upset when one of the following things happen:

    1) Uninstalling (software) causes you to reinstall in WindowsXP because it's poorly written and removed system files.
    2) The software is highly unstable or produces random results.
    3) The software costs over $2,000 a copy and it doesn't work as promised.
    4) Using software requires you to disable system processes or tasks.

FFXI is guilty of breaking 2 of those 4 rules.

You make it sound as if AV was just recently released. They've had literally years to look into this mob and has done nothing but tell us something vague about his regen which no one cares about anyways.

Markus's post had nothing to do with AV.

I agree, time is a poor excuse for not having the video done for fanfest. I wouldn't put it pass sqaure enix for them to of made a mistake in past update making AV broken/unkillable and not relising their mistake untill they tried making a video for fanfest.

My prediction is one day after an update AV will be killable again, shortly followed by the dev team video prolly a few days/weeks after the player base no longer needs it. Rot in hell SE....

The dev team is actually quite small (one of the books elmer was translating had pictures of the whole team). Taking 18+ people off their workstations for however long it takes to kill AV ( I'm guessing at least 3hrs) right before the release of a new expansion and a huge event (fan fest) would be suicide for any game development team.

As Markus said in his post, that was crunch time for the dev team, they were probably all sleeping under their desks to save every hour they could to make sure the expansion could be released without destroying people's PCs and bricking their consoles. You all saw how buggy the game was right after wings came out, if we had gotten our video by the fan fest that would have been much much worse. Plus the expansion would be delayed by another few days and we'd have 30 extra pages of QQ ing.

After playing through the expansion, I wonder what on earth could possibly have kept them from making a video.

Sorry I'm not gonna be sympathetic their priority should be fixing things broken in the game, instead of covering it up with a truck load of more broken shit.

Having worked in QA for nearly a decade (not SE), I can tell you that 90% of the bugs that you see in games isn't due to QA missing the bugs, but more of some developer (usually a programmer or producer) deciding that it isn't worth the time or effort to fix the bug.

Re: Strategies to Defeat AV (All Theories/Ideas Here)

Anyone try CFHing and zerging to 10%ish with your full LS there or maybe help from another shell or 2? At like 5% wipe, wait for it to pop out of CFH then bio-sack/lvl1job sack it wait for everyone to unweak, make a strong ally (Tank party +drks/blms?) and try and take it from 15ish?

I mean if you have like 15 KC/Zhaghnal/Chopper DRKs and 20 BLMs (assuming you get help from another shell you're friends with) how many spells is it going to get off? I'm not sure of how much hp it has and I doubt that even that many people would be enough to zerg it in a reasonable time (imo it would have to be zerged in 2minutes tops, and would be luck depending on which 2hr it uses in that time) but it seems like the only way I could see it getting done... lol@bringing that many people out for a SAM to rock a sash though.
