What Taj did was wrong...most are not arguing that. Fact is it was done. People can yell about this until they are blue in the face and it won't change anything or what may or may not happen.

People have spoken about credibility, and yes...that is kind of a issue now (At least for me). I tried to come at this with a objective perspective and see the whole picture. Problem for me now is that the person in this thread that is speaking for FFXIclopedia has made remarks in the past against gil buying, yet I'm looking at transactions by the same person for that very thing. Div's character is in question and that takes most of what he has said in this thread into speculation.

Personal Opinion

I always looked at FFXIclopedia as a site of the fans. Sure it's owned by only one guy, but it became what it is through the community. They posted, they logged all the info, they made it what it is today. They even gave money to make sure it would stay the way it was. Because of all of this, I would think Ganiman and co. would be ever so greatful to the community for making FFXIclopedia what it is today. At the same time though, this much work and money makes much of the fan base feel like they have a right (even though they don't) to know exactly how the money was spent. Anyone who runs the PR or is speaking on behalf of FFXIclopedia I would hope understood that.

We will be addressing the remaining funds soon. I apologize for the delay - I honestly did not think the community was going to get crazy over this. We have always worked for the community, I think our track record shows that. Have a little trust in us in handling the remaining funds. You can't please everyone all of the time as the saying goes, so we have been trying to think of ways we can use the remaining funds to give back to the community as fairly as possible. Ideas have gone back and forth, and it's near impossible to do something that would make everyone happy. People donated anywhere from $0.01 (which was lost in paypal transaction fees) to over $200 (where people would donate anonymously) - in fact a large part of the "big" donors asked to remain anonymous and left no solid contact information (always makes me wonder if we have celebrities using this site). We have always been open to the community, so please give us a chance to properly respond. I will be up front right now and admit that I did not properly calculate the amount of funds I thought we would need. I didn't just pull it out of thin air either, and I thought when the time would come, I would foot the bill on the site to make it to the next fundraiser. $12,000 is a lot of money to raise on a website, and I was told by more people than not that we would never succeed (and sadly enough, we did not). Running a site of this magnitude, being the sole server admin, was a new experience for me and many things about operations were learned along the way.

Thanks Gani and the gang for continually working to improve the quality of our experience here at the wiki. I know its alot of work to keep something like this running.

There is still one question that I have that i've seen raised on other forums and mentioned in this very thread but left unanswered. What about the most Recent Fundraiser? The whole point was to move the website from a server to a faster servers(Plural) and to pay for hosting/support for a full year. Is the money still going to hosting the website for a year, or is wikia footing the bill and paying for hosting?

I know we only came up with $9,372.02 of the $12,000.00 Goal for the 2007 Fundraiser. The purpose of the Fundraiser was too move the wiki from its current server to 3 new servers (2 Web, 1 Database).

The cost of the new servers plus set up fees, and some buffer funds to pay for extra support should an emergency arise would be $12,000 a year. That will get us 2 dedicated web servers, 1 dedicated database server and hardware load balancing

(All #'s are approximate, this is just my best guess) Assuming $2,000.00 for Buffer Support/T-shirts/Mousepads, that leaves $10,000.00 for the servers. Thats $3,333.33 per server for a year, or $277.77 per month, per server.

Then we also need considering we didn't meet our Fundraising Goal and only got 2 new servers per this post by Ganiman in may. Assuming this fundraiser paid for hosting of the wiki from May thru September, it cost $1,3883.85 a server, or $2,777.70 for both. Then again assuming $2,000.00 set aside for Buffer Support/T-shirts/Mousepads, thats a grand totel of $4,777.70 spent to run the wiki from May thru Sept.

This means we have approximately $4,594.32 of the fundraiser left over. Even if we say Buffer Support/T-shirts/Mousepads was a rediculous $5,000.00, that leaves over $1.5k of left over.

As someone who donated, i feel that my contribution needs to be used for what it was intended for. I'd love to get some feed back from the admin, in particularly Gani so we can see what the fundraiser money is going to be used for or what it is currently being used for.

(Please note i'm not an angry donator or trying to start an arguement, but a curious, concerned donator that wants to make sure his 50Gilz is going towards what it was ment to.)

I don't care about your gilbuying you did it before you knew it was wrong, probably back in 2004... (There might be a comment to be made about stones and glass houses but I don't know under what conditions that DV bought gil, even if he did buy gil, and there has yet to be credible proof of this.)

Seriously though, my point wasn't about Taj's credibility. It's that Div has neither confirmed nor denied the IGE transactions saying, "No one would believe me anyways". Regardless of what other people think, if it's not true I'd like to hear him say it. Not saying it one way or another tends people to think it's the truth.
