What if the reason people decided to donate was so that it didn't have to move to wikia?

Maybe I didn't quite understand it when it was explained to me, but as I understood it, the fund raiser was to get their own servers. As I also understand it, Wikia is a free host that profits from ads/etc.

Donating money to a website gives you ZERO say in what the website does.

Hmm I was under the impression that when you donated to a cause that may just maybe the people that donated want to see it go to that. I mean I could be wrong, after all millions of people donate to the United Way and it is well known that there money doesn't go to what they donated it for, but it's get distributed as the United Way see fit. but well the the only other cause that this could have donated to other then the website was well, the aforementioned hookers and booze.

I am shockingly sure minded that I will be repeating this over and over in this thread. Perhaps you should look into how charities operate, tax-exemption status, etc. I will be clear again here because I think in the fervor that will be ignited by this thread will cause a multitude of mindless "me too" posts; The wiki is not a charity. At most, if you feel wronged, you could call the IRS to report that the wiki did not report the income. If you want to report fraud, go ahead, but again, you have to prove malicious intent. Which you can't.

Simply asking for an explanation without all the fluffy diatribes on hookers and booze will likely get you closer to an answer.

Donating is a big scam for the most parts for a lot of things. Even all those organizations like those things about helping childeren in such only give a small fraction of what they get to the actual people. I forgot the actual percentage of how much money organazations actually do what they say they are going to do with the money.

See I really disprove of this, I run my LS's Vent server off of donations. with that said I post bills and account totals when bills are paid and I realize that it's on a smaller scale, a much smaller scale, but still not donating because you fell like your going to get riped off isn't really the way to look at it. People should just do some homework on what your going to donate to, and make sure that they are going to give your money to the cause that you have chosen.

No they didnt, you can read the first announcement thread on their forum, and he says they rent them. When you rent servers, it's in a server farm far away from your actual location, and it's done monthly.

Assuming you donated $10, the best you can hope for is about $4.50 back since some of the money was already spent. That's assuming that the legal fees associated with the move are being handled for free by Mierin, which there's certainly no guarantee of.

About 10-30% actually reach the children. The rest line out the various organization coffers for various "needs." Donating, while done in good taste by good people, usually get fucked in the end by someone[s] looking to take advantage of the system.

You are missing the most important part of that statement. (The "etc," was to imply that something was done with the money, I did not know what happened to the money, which is completely irrelevant to the discussion.)

Once you handed over the money to the Wiki people, it was no longer yours. They have no accountability to you, or anyone. They are not a charity. You gave money to a friend, they used it.
