Misinformation? Ignorant beliefs? Where?
You collected money saying one thing, then you did another.
Now you are acting like everyone should be throwing a party.
Maybe you should get into politics :D
Seriously though an open statement about this BEFORE this topic was made would probably have done a great deal for the public response. You're basically calling people ignorant because they haven't heard your excuses yet. Whether you walked off with the money or squandered it through bad business practices is irrelevant. This is a moral argument not a legal one. Legally I'm assuming you're fine.
Honestly, I take a little offense to this statement. You should have said upfront something would happen to the money but it wasnt all there. People generally do not think 100% clearly when it comes to money, you should have had some foresight to give people a little heads up on the adjustments and changes. I know the move to wikia was your last resort, but dont treat us like villains, people wanted the scoop, this is how they got it. This is how you turn the bad publicity into good. So, as I stated above, the lynch mob, again, is full of ignorant people. Why don't you just ask us what happened rather than breaking out your pitchforks and torches. We didn't run off with the money. We did exactly as we said we would. And yes, you will get your money back in one way or another.
Thank you for the explanation. Sounds very reasonable.
Given how excellent the FFXI wiki is, and free, I'd be perfectly happy to see the last 2k just be divided up among the admins as a thankyou.Originally Posted by Jooeetheplatypus

It's all in the wiki forums:Originally Posted by Riel

Hey Taj, THXS for the info!
Tell this man what he's won. You act as if we're paying to go to other information resources or forums to share our thoughts etc. Saying a website is free when the other options in general aren't exactly pay either (granted the wiki is a good resource but last I checked we didn't go almost 3 years without the ability to look up and discuss the information otherwise) isn't exactly giving a lot of weight to your contention.Originally Posted by Shuvo

Taj's first post was very confrontational and not even in the correct forum. It was made for dramatic effect.
A better approach would have been to go to the wiki forums and ask them forthrightly what was going on with Wikia and the money that was donated, rather than posting here with the intent to start yet another BG dramafest.
If we act like childern, we will be treated as such.
The question posed was a very responsible question to ask.Originally Posted by ringthree
It isn't the only "free service" regarding FFXI, nor is it the most used. I'd say Windower easily doubles it (in terms of usage), and sadly alot of people make use of ZAM onry for info. Hell theres always Somepage and KI too.Originally Posted by Shuvo
I don't deny FFXIclopedia is a tremendous resource, but thats hardly the issue at the moment. People donated money for servers that (once it was known wouldn't work) should have been returned to them.
I don't see the part where you say "Sorry for moving after we took a bunch of donations for our own hosting while we bashed Wikia."Originally Posted by Mierin

Granted the second topic is the only one I've been able to check but the only serious mention of money or donations in the first topic was made by *gag* poof and it wasn't even replied to except for ad-hominem and then ganiman basically skirted it entirely. All it was was people going "well we didn't like wikia.... buuuuuuuuuut now we do". Granted if I missed a specific post please feel free to direct me to it.Originally Posted by Mierin
Second topic had no mention of them at all.
Absolutely! I questioned the tenor not the message.Originally Posted by Khamsin
People donated money to LEASE servers which is what they did with most of the money (only two instead of three since there wasn't enough money for that). Another portion was used for donation incentives (also acceptable since spending that money resulted in more money).Originally Posted by Sasarai
Now once it fully dawned on them that donations wouldn't work, they moved to wikia and started planning other ways to use the money to help the community. I can't say I really see anything wrong with this.
Doesn't change the fact that you shouldn't be a dick to people using their spare time to help you.Originally Posted by Ryko

But i'll escort you through any zone you want for just 3 easy installments of 4,999,999 gil.
What's wrong is the lack of foresight. They could have started off saying "Hey I doubt we're going to get 10k". They could have said "we didnt get 10k, lets give it back and move to wikia" after they only got 7k. They let their bad experiences before paint over the possibilities and wasted money because of it.Originally Posted by Gere
And come on, 1.9k for tshirts and mousepads?!?! I doubt people who donated wanted their money to be spent on that.
