Is there a list somewhere that shows which mobs can be used as pets and which mobs are abilities only?

Pretty much all mobs can be pets unless they are beastmen or HNMs.

In response to my own question about the WAR/RDM with WHM Scrolls that wasn't casting... it's casting now. Uses Dia and Cures itself...pwns :D Dunno why it wasn't before, maybe have to be over lvl 10...(random?)

i got me a dahak before going to bed last night and got me some rando stuff and main jobs.
pld main job but wouldnt work on it. fire atk +, magic def +25 which i cant use yet cuz my dahak FP lv9 is just 27 iirc. i wonder how high will go as i lv it cuz i can barely put any attks to it. Then u have other like apllaku w.e name is with like 70. i could really use that one i guess to see how good the terrorize atk works...

I have a Dahak pet too. Started out at level 9 with 26 FP. I have won on fight against another level 9 Dahak, and I received 100 exp for the kill. Just wondering if you really have 27 FP, because if you do then that means that the same family of mobs can have different amounts of starting FP with the same level.

im pretty positive it is 27. Now i cant confirm till i get home from work. My concern is Dahak FP is damn low i wanted to add atk speed +50 and terrorizing atk but guess that wont happend with just 27....

So, as we already established, you need to set Main or Sub Job and then Job Traits to get the respective effect. But can you use something like "Triple Attack +15%" without a particular job or trait set?

Can normal NMs be used? Like say you capture leaping lizzy, can you use him and they just turn him into a normal lizard?

Sky is a closed zone (as much as Al'Taieu or Promyvion, anyway) and you can use Detectors, which appear nowhere else. You can also add Hippogriffs (Riverne), Humanoids, and biomechanical (e.g. Omega, Ultima).

You can use acroliths, but shadows may be debatable, since they may fall under humanoid.

Though, this just dawned on me, if you can use Shadows...try for a Dark Stalker type. Would rape low levels: one TP move, being Dimensional Death.
