another look at CoP rings post-patch

Well since the dex=acc thing is apparantly inteded by SE, i'm faced with a decision... When i originally beat CoP in january of 2006 I took the rajas ring, and was happy with it. Then SE made it so you can change it easily, and i thought long and hard about it. My main job is RDM, i go to all hnm events as a mage of some sort. And i was saving gil by buying a sniper and selling off the Snow/Aqua rings. So i changed to Tamas ring and just used dual snipers on all my melee jobs.

Now here's the kicker- I'm going after maats cap. So i'm going to have to level more 2handed jobs, notably SAM and DRG. My DRK is 73 as of today, trying to finish it to 75 before seriously working on Ranger. So what would you do in my situation- keep Tamas or switch to Rajas? My RDM has most of the "best gear," Dalm/Af2 hat, etc. So i kind of like having the pimp tamas ring, but i know that its all replacable with AH gear. Rajas just seems too good to be true now.

my current jobs at 75 are RDM BLM WHM THF MNK WAR NIN. My other r/ex items i took are Suppanomimi, Magnetic Earring and Jalzahds ring (cause the other ones didnt impress me).

Do you plan on being done with the rajas in the next 27 days?

No, probably not, I dont level /that/ fast with my current rl schedule/my linkshell's events. Im sometimes asked to go Monk to events because i have black belt and full hand2hand merits, and if i had better melee gear i might be asked to go more often. Rajas might swing it that way i would think?

Basically i dont want to switch to rajas just for leveling and switch back to tamas after 75 on SAM/DRG- I'm thinking forever, which ring would give me the most bang for my buck.

it sounds like you already made your choice 'forever'. although I will state that I would rate a rajas higher for 2handers now than a mars's ring (esp. samurai going for six hits)

that doesn't matter though if you spend 80% or more of your non-exp time on rdm.

RDM has always been my main, and always will be my main. The enmity reduction on Tamas is nice, but generally a RDM will use MP, INT, and MND gear at different times through gear swaps. Therefore, you'll never get full use out of it. Rajas has four things that every melee can use at all times, including two stats that are hard to find in a ring slot. Its usefulness has increased further with the improvements to 2-handers.

That's why I picked Rajas, and now I have NIN, SAM, and BLU at high levels and I'm loving it. In my opinion, there's no reason to get either of the other two rings unless the -only- thing you do is tanking or magery. If the situation will come up much where you need to be meleeing, then Rajas wins.

I agree, since your "endgame" job is RDM, itd make more sense to keep that top geared.

p.s. I know his sig is cool lookin and all, but is there a way of limiting the size and heaviness of peoples sigs? Its a fucking bitch to scroll through, esp if they post frequently in a thread...

my theory has always been: XP gear should be reasonable but not extravagant. extravagance is for 75. for example, ether/electrum at 40 on a mage job is fine (for MP rings at any rate.) you don't need an ether/astral for that extra 5 mp or to have a serket waiting at 51. this does NOT mean that you should be wearing a fang necklace at 60, or bone earrings at 55. buy gear with a good value/cost. you can use relaxed gear in XP, since XP rarely expects you to be in top form. if your DPS goes down by .01, that's hardly going to end your day. if an XP mob takes just 1 more swing to get TP to WS on, oh well. how big an impact will that have on your xp/hr? if you're fighting khimera, and your para procs less or your stunning fulm pulls you hate sooner, you might end up with a situation on your hands. keep your focus on your important jobs, not your toy jobs.

Ditto what Spekkio said. Unless you only focus is to xp (What I did after my end game shell broke) for a maat's, keep HQ for the job you love the most or the job your LS needs the most.

Also, if you plan on switching to Rajas then back to Tamas, there's a 30 day wait to get Tamas back. The timer starts after you drop the ring.

Example: I picked Rajas. After they let you switch, I switched to Sattiva (leveling PLD at the time). I finished PLD to 66 after 45 days and wanted Rajas back. I have to wait 30 days while having no COP ring before I can get Rajas back.

Unless you are aimming for a 6 hit build Rajas isn't that huge a benefit.

While tanking isn't the -only- think I do, there is nothing that replaces my Savtta ring when I am. Rajas on the other hand has a plethora of replacements with only a minimal loss in Epeen.

Better in situations that matter > 100 more damage on a WS during a Merit party

Rajas is downright amazing for Samurai, and is probably better even than Mars ring.

hank, (apologies, if you were speaking from a non-2h job perspective) rajas is now: STR+5 DEX+5 acc+5 att+5 storetp+5 subtle blow+5

this is silly good for a ring. there's only one (outside assault/salvage) that's even close anymore (mars's: acc+8 att+8 eva-8 def-8) and the number of people who have it on any given server could be counted on one hand.

even if all it was was str5 dex5 for two handers it would *still* be a ring you would almost never take off.

Re: another look at CoP rings post-patch

As a Warrior/Nin Rajas would be a WS only ring for me. Stacking haste, keeping Acc high and eating meat isn't so easy for me to do that I can simply trash an Acc ring for a bit of Str and some pointless Store TP, and the same can be said for any dual weilding job I have.

As Warrior who uses a Great Axe, while it is an even better ring for two-handers than it is for one-handers and I would wear it ful time, it’s still not irreplaceable and the areas it will help make the largest difference will be merit parties, which in the grand scheme of things are rather inconsequential.

I don't mean to down play the rings value when you are using it, it is a fantastic ring. However from my perspective, I rather have a ring that improves my performance when I need to be my best than have a ring that merely boosts my epeen & parser performance yet still won't even end up effecting the XP/Hour.

    Sincerely,
    Hankthetank

This doesn't even make sense.. You would always get a banefit out of Tamas on RDM, no matter what spell you use or what gear you swap to.

I think Rajas is great and the reason I have it over Sattva is BLU and SAM. I rarely get to play those but really if I picked a ring based on playtime it would be Tamas for my BLM and I don't want that shit. Really though, unless you get to play your other jobs I don't think you need to change it.

Rajas is quite simply an amazing ring though for 2h users and especially SAM. Anyone playing a job that uses a 2h weapon alot and doesn't have a Rajas is kinda foolish.

    Rajas isn't Exp onry.

2h was already a nice option for endgame events, with the plethora of SATAable, high tp mod, high ass damage WSes available.

Now a Rajas is indispensable for endgame 2h melee, theres no situation where you would want another Ring there, not in Dynamis, Assault, Salvage, Limbus, Sky, Sea, HNM, or Meripo. (note that in Assault/Salvage, I'd want Ulthalam/Rajas for maximum pew-pew)

I can totally dig people preferring their tank or mage rings, but to think a Rajas would only help someone in a meripo is just flat wrong.

Re: another look at CoP rings post-patch

for someone who only goes to endgame events as a tank or support job, yes, a rajas only helps the in meripo (and maybe assault).

my rajas only helps my sam currently, but fuck if I'm gonna drop it for tamas just to pick it up again once I can finally start doing shit on sam.

for someone with nin pld brd drg - they're rarely going to be coming 2h, so they may as well pick whichever ring they feel they'll actually get use out of. (probably tamas in this case)

Re: another look at CoP rings post-patch

Can I ask a n00b question? Currently thinking of switching my CoP ring but I'm not exactly sure of the details and wiki isn't giving me the answers. If I drop the ring, do I have to wait 27days for the first replacement, or just if I want to replace it again later? Also, to get the new ring do I just drop the one I have and check the tavern door, or do I actually have to go inside?

Apologies for ignorance and minor derail, and thanks in advance for help. ^^

Re: another look at CoP rings post-patch

I thought you had to wait 27 days after getting one to get a new one.

As for the Rajas, not everyone has Nin, Rdm, Pld, Brd.

I have War 75, that's my only 75, and will be for the forseeable future, if just because I don't want to level a more desired job than the one I enjoy playing, and then never get to use my War.

So, for me, Rajas is a definite help in anything endgame I do, as my job is to kill things, the more effective I am at it, and every little bit helps, the better off I am.
