Because I've been hearing shit about it freezing up and stuff.

wut
All new systems burn up, they all suck and this should be in like general discussion no?
As far as I know the issue hasn't been fixed and Microsoft has only given a extended warranty, a few of my friends are on their 3rd or 4th xbox. As for "all systems burn up", I'm pretty sure the Wii is fine isn't it? I know as a ps3 owner the ps3 has a extremely low rate of broken consoles its like .1% or something.
If your gonna get a xbox I think you should definetly get it at a place that offers a good warranty where you can just go in and switch it.
I'm still on my first 360, I've had it for wellllll over a year.
When it breaks, I'm under warranty, they'll give me a new one.
Not really that much of a problem, computers can overheat burn up or die, it happens. When that happens you replace them. Warranty is from microsoft, its safe, you just don't have a console for a couple weeks, no big deal since you aren't dishing out to buy a new one.
I think as of August they have started to ship with 65nm chips, so you're better off than before, lets put it that way.
It's been fixed for the most part. They've added a new heatsink and probably added more epoxy, and better thermal paste.

Ugh i bought my Xbox360 middle of august and it already started acting weird, thing would make my games "unreadable" after a couple days of play -_- sending it in for repair, Hopefully get a new one in
P.S their customer service sucks
Didn't they say the original problem was due to surge protectors exceeding the 360's extremely low tolerance for voltage fluxuations?
No it's not, but MS gives you a 3yr warranty so you're covered.
I beleive for you to redeem the "3yr waranty" your xbox has to have the red rings of death

Like Semitry said, they added a new heatsink but it's connected by a single heatpipe so it's not going to be doing much and they are still failing at an unacceptable rate. I've been wanting to get one for a while but I'm waiting until I know for sure the problems have been ironed out.
I've had an original one and havn't had a problem yet. Just keep it in a well ventilated area and don't beat the shit out of it.
bought a used one 6 months ago that is still cranking away, froze once or twice in that time but nothing a reboot didn't clear up.
Get an Elite. Supposedly they don't break down as much or as quickly. Prolly BS but worth the $100 anyway I think.
Easy steps to a new 360 if yours breaks:
1) Keep the box and all papers/documentation
2) When 360 breaks, package it all back up
3) Drive to your local Wal-Mart
4) Go to returns and tell them a convincing story about how it RRoD'd and that you bought it less than 1 month ago
5) Grab your new 360 and go home
Done this 4 times with 4 different 360's so far and not only that, if you're lucky, they'll give you 30 bucks back for the service plan you don't want.
I would get one right now with the upcoming halo 3 title. I am actually buying one this week, I've been waiting a long time to get one due to the massive amount of failures. But now with the new premium (comes with HDMI standard and a revised heatsink AND the RRoD warentee) I think it is finally ok to get one. Just this week actually Office Depot has a deal with the new Premium. Only $299 for it, you have to go into the store and ask them to order it online for you, and they will ship it to you free. It was in this sunday's ad. I'm going to order mine tomorrow from them :D
I've had mine since June 2006 and never had a problem with it.
The fact that you had to return it 4 different times makes me not want to buy a xbox until MS gets their shit together.Originally Posted by Creeps
