Ranger. Thoughts?

How is it these days? I know the 2H update changed a lot, and I keep hearing lolRNG, but they didn't nerf the job did they?

I just started lvling it, pretty sure I want to take to 75. I'm in love with spike damage(being a BLM), and at this point I just want to have fun with the game. I don't do much endgame outside Dynamis, and the occasional NM camp with friends. Can it still do ridiculous dmg? I hear from some people that it's worthless now, can barely keep up with melees. Others say it still rocks. Obviously best way is to lvl it for myself, but wondering what others view on the subject it.

Note: I'm completely melee illiterate outside basics.
