I played the beta. Graphics were pretty good but there was no character customization beyond clothing, so all characters of a gender/class combo looked the same.
Gameplay was fairly straight forward with the AI doing a pretty good job.
Almost no quests in the game. A few in the beginning but then maybe 3 per level range after that. 1 area to level in per 4 levels.
Essentially it was a massive grind fest with over 100 levels and I decided not to pursue it.
Hmm, i found this in a review for the western version. Was it the Korean or Western version you played?
"Well, yes, it's a Korean MMO - so the progression system definitely deserves some attention. The standard formula for Korean MMOs is one which many western players find it difficult to get absorbed in; as a rule, they have great Player vs Player systems, but the actual progression in terms of levelling up your character is utterly, utterly tedious. The kind of interesting quests and opportunities for solo play you get in the likes of World of Warcraft or Lord of the Rings Online are alien to most Korean games; instead, they are indeed all grindy grindy grind until such time as you're big and strong enough to start blatting the other players about, at which point they become interesting.
Thankfully, Sword of the New World looks like it will avoid the worst of this problem, thanks to a number of factors. For a start, the minute to minute play when you're roaming through a dungeon (many of which are solo play friendly, thanks to the whole three-character system) is extremely fast compared to most MMOGs; you'll routinely be fighting multiple monsters at the same time, and hacking through several foes in the space of a minute, which gives the game a certain flair compared to other, rather more ponderous MMOGs. Combined with the complexity introduced by controlling three character classes at once, it looks like this will take much of the sting out of the grind.
However, the other element of good news on this front is that Sword of the New World won't be quite the same game when it launches over here - with the developer (incidentally, it's the same chap who created the incredibly cute and surprisingly compelling Ragnarok Online) making a number of changes for the western release. Striking what's described as a delicate balance between cutting grind and not trivialising the time taken to progress through the game's 100 levels, they have added more quests and more story elements to the mix - making Sword of the New World into a game more in line with western expectations of what an MMOG should do, which sounds good to us."
And this next bit is different from the Korean version apparently :
"Oh yes - armour. In an unusual move, Sword of the New World doesn't have visible armour on your characters; instead, you choose your character's clothing on the creation screen, and they continue looking broadly the same throughout the entire game. According to the developers, this is down to a desire to make sure that characters look fairly unique from one another.In the Korean version of the game, which had visible armour, every character at the same level tended to look the same; in the western version, ongoing customisation will be provided only by weapons (which do look mighty cool, in some cases), haircuts and hats."
I saw a preview of this before, looked kinda fun, but I don't wanna pay for another mmo atm. -.-;

i played the "ob/demo", it was pretty cool but it had a feeling to it that just didn't agree with me
Downloading now. From what I read on the website, which is obviously going to make the game sound good, it sounds really good.
The graphics are fucking beautiful (a good demonstration of just how shitty FFXI is programmed for the PC) but it's just like so many other run of the mill MMORPGs, it's a grindfest filled with well, filler quests.
I've only played it for a few hours and it's kind of complicated to pick up but an awesome way to kill time since you can pretty much play the game solo with your party of 3.
One thing I really dislike is the way your characters sort of act on their own, all you do is put out some basic movement commands and they pretty much do everything else.
For a free game it's pretty good, but I definitely wouldn't pay a fee for it.
Downloaded... but have not installed.
I might try it out sometime, got a ton of fappin to do first though.
Dunno if I misunderstood or whatever, but you get to control 3 characters in total, sorta like Persona (I know in Persona it's 4). Liek you control only the MC and assign commands, etc. to the other 2? If it's like FFXI and Lineage 2 then I'll pass this shit.Originally Posted by Ichikun
Nope you can individually control all 3 characters. Can select and move them around separately or in a group, aswell as giving them commands to hold ground etc.Originally Posted by Meteora
Leave your healer on "Hold ground" and will only attack monsters that attack them first. Fighter up front on attack anything etc etc
You use keys q-t for character A skills, a-g for character b skills and z-b for character C skills. I found the game quite fun, ended up making a party of 3 rangers and owning the crap out of everything, got to level 20 pretty fast.
Aside from how crowded all of the low-level areas are, I've been really enjoying this game so far. It's certainly not the deepest game ever made, but it makes for a fine diversion here and there. Can't compain about the price, either.
I play this game. They claim that there is no level cap, but I have found that it is lv100. You can "continue on" by becoming a Veteran. It can get pretty repetitive, but it looks great and is a break from other games.
from what i played in the demo... gun users raped the shit out of everything, to those who still play and are decently high, do they continue to rape higher up? or do they even out with lower hp and defense than the other classes so 3 of them don't own so badly
At level 1-24, you can pretty much one shot everything. After that though, you will find that not the case. Musketeers are pretty mushy if you don't have a scout.
They are amazing, but I havn't used two musketeers yet. I am a Scout/Fighter/Musketeer.
Translation is crappy later on, but otherwise a decent game.
i figured, thanks thoughOriginally Posted by Fusion

I don't post here often, but i played SotNW from closed beta till about a week ago...
i had 3 veteran characters [adelina, scout, grace] and a ton of other 60+ alts. was also in the most powerful guild on my server [Cesario]
Overall, the game is ok, gets boring fast, the end-game is not even decent, the pvp sucks [until they release colony wars in a month or two], no community [i only made 1-2 friends while guildless].
I'd recommend another game IMO. 4 of my friends started playing this and quit after hitting the 50s since it got so boring. they also hated the fact that you can level while at work, school, etc. [afk leveling] but all the fun is @deleveling afk levels ^^;
