I've been searching Arrapago for the past hour for these things, training past imps and soulflayers, with almost no luck... anyone know where the little bastards can be found?

Only places I can think of:
Did you try on the way to Medusa?
Did you try on the way to Astral Candescence BCNM?

I don't remember them when I saved the Candescence so I'd go to Medusa

but it's very possible I'm wrong

I didn't check by Medusa, because I couldn't find my way up there.. everything headed in that direction seemed like a one way drop.

They should be near the zone to Dvucca in the northwestern part of the third map (which you get to by going as far west as you can). E/F-6 on this map.

Yeah, I found that map, but couldn't get anywhere near the northern part of the map... ><;
