Semantics aside, I don't think we heard anything new or noteworthy. The more interesting thing to track is the politicization of Gen. Petraeus.

I think he's implying that if a dem pres is elected, the troops will be pulled out much sooner, i.e. no "long haul"

Even if a Democrat is elected the troops wont be leaving Iraq. So don't trick yourself into voting for one SOLELY because they say they are going to remove them. They can't. The region would become so incredibly unstable that we would be back over there within a few years.

I could ramble on with this but I'll just stop there.

On another note. Did anyone catch the HBO special about the wounded soldiers that came back from Iraq with James Galdolfini(sp)? It was pretty intense and touching.

Yeah, because staying there for even longer will stabilize the region, harmony will wash over the land, and Muslims throughout the middle east will hold hands and skip merrily through the sand dunes.

Face it, there's nothing this country or any other can do to get those jackasses to stop fighting with one another. They've done it for thousands of years, and with the way things look they'll be doing it for thousands more. The best thing we can do is stop spending money and lives in that region and let them continue on with their idiocy. If they get out of hand with terrorism then we send in some special ops to do their jobs. We should be spending money on research and development of more remote recon technology so we can find their asses when they hide. Maybe even have remote controlled drones to bomb them. But spend lives? Fuck no. Those losers aren't worth it.

LOL @ all the people that think they know anything about stabilization and mililtary dealings. That's like saying all the people on Capital Hill (read: both Dems and Reps) have any fucking clue what they are talking about when they addressed the General.
