the first part is SE's fault. it's not supposed to do that. the only times it should go yellow is if you die/zone.Originally Posted by Tricen

*insert lots of BST complaining*
I've always understood that if the person on the hate list dies or zones, and someone else has hate, it will run towards them and go yellow. If you grav a mob and start running you will eventually lose hate and it will go yellow.Originally Posted by layoneil
I'm new to the rdm/nin scene so I have a very limited experience but I duo'd or trio'd about 5-6 zips that week for genbu sets to uncurse my -1 mitts and each time he ran back to me he was red. I always believed he should chase me and stay claimed as long as I have hate or maybe more specifically the most hate? If they cured the blm I see how they could have gotten more hate, but I had been bio, poison, bind, grav, and enfeebs for hate the first 70% of the fight. I'm always up for learning and being corrected so if I'm wrong then I'm glad I now know what not to do.Originally Posted by Tricen
With bind, you could bind anything, and run as far as you'd like and wont lose hate.

But seriously, if it's RMTs? Yes. Every time (unless it might break my xp chain..party > individual urges).
If it's an NM, only if a) they have no hope of coming back on it or b) they've done it to me.
Keeping the mob claimed is part of the skill invovled to beat a mob.
Mobs seem to go yellow when no one has hate above a certain threshold. Like with two people duoing a NM -- one person with a little bit of hate gets hit for a lot, then the NM kills the other person. The NM will go yellow though it will be chasing after the first. Also there could be pathing issues, like when you run a non-NM monster around a large rock or other obstacle for a minute and it eventually depops, or when you're a BLM soloing in Mount Z. and the flans and princes tend to deaggro in certain spots for no obvious reason. I've never had anything go yellow on me while carby-kiting on summoner, so I am not sure why BST has that problem.
As for the topic, I believe people spam for claim most of the time. I don't bother if the linkshell is capable of killing, but if it is one of those that takes an hour to kill Fafnir if they are lucky, then it's on.
There are no moral complications in claiming something that's yellow.
Yellow = Claimable
While I understand how it may piss people off to loose something, just as if they were to wipe to it, it doesn't mean it's wrong. Some people say the question presented greatly simplifies the situation, it doesn't. The only reason some linkshells don't do it is because they want to be courteous, or don't have the people for it and are pretending to be nice. Besides.. how many times have you seen a fafnir yellow without almost everyone dead?
BST typically lose claim because they target something else to charm, use an ability and then have to reclaim. It's similar to why you lose claim sleeping adds.Originally Posted by dendryte
I'm surprised at the amount of "it's fair" responses to be honest. I havn't camped kings in almost two years and that kind of behavior was considered really inappropriate. There was a similar incident on my server and I was really shocked that almost everyone responded, yellow is fair game, it's part of the game mechanic etc. Spinning Fafnir is part of the game mechanic too, especially if I want to xp off of spiders and darters off his feet, don't think people would consider that fair game.
imo its cool to claim a yellow mob, if you dont, someone else will, and why should your ls miss out on a claim, so another ls can step up and claim it when it went yellow?
btw i vote tricen for president..........
Someone is always going to be bitching if thats the case.
someones always going to bitch anyway, the internet is full of guys who act like bitches
That's against the TOS, claiming something that's able to be claimed is not.Originally Posted by solsovly
This type of scenario plays out every day. There's more than 1 way to deal with this type of situation, and still get claim, and still manage to not piss off people involved. It's unfortunate that some choose not to pursue more diplomatic approaches for the risk of not getting claim on something they didn't initially have claim on to begin with.Originally Posted by aceofspades
Who is to say we have to follow your moral approach changz? someone loses claim, it's not theirs anymore. They had their chance, they lost it. stop being a typical cracker...Originally Posted by Changz

If you want to label my approach as the moral one, that's up you. All I was saying is there is more than 1 way to deal with a situation. Some ways might actually prevent drama and keep the peace. In the end it's the choice of the people or leaders involved as to how they want to deal with their situation.Originally Posted by NiggaFromHarlem
unfortunately very few shiva ls give a damn about drama, some even breed it......
that being said neither my ls or yours are one of those ls...
The mob spawned yellow, you had your chance, you lost it.Originally Posted by NiggaFromHarlem
I would say the same thing as most everyone else, if they are wiping, go for it. If it turned yellow due to some stupid mistake or game mechanic, and they are obviously in control of the fight, than leave it be. Watching an entire linkshell steal an nm off of ONE solo bst is one of the most pathetic things I've seen in FFXI, and I've seen it a number of times.![]()
