  • It's a fairly made and properly executed system that I find no fault with.

    Pankration: Diablo Cage discussion

    Not sure if this qualifies for the other section or if this has already been done to death in one of the other Pankration topics or whatever. I didn't see anything dedicated specifically to this in either forum. Feel free to take appropriate action.

    Anyway, what are your opinions on the Diablo pit championship? I, personally, think all but the first option apply. While I'm sure Square didn't quite expect this level of popularity, it is a tad ridiculous how it's turned into this powerlevel only arena and how nobody can even approach the champion for weeks because everyone keeps putting in crap level, unnamed monsters. I think Square could fix it either by forcing breaks on the champion (still retains the win streak, but has to take a break for some period of time every x number of wins), putting a limit to times you can apply for it in a set period of time, extending the number of match slots (which would probably result in up to four hour waits), or limiting it so only monsters within 20 levels of the champ can apply when the wait will be over an hour. While I'm sure the problem will sort of solve itself in a few weeks when all the people with level 3 "Pit Monster" Taurus get bored, I still think Square could sneak some fixes in for their inevitable next emergency patch.

    I'd rather they regen SOME of their HP/MP... kinda like Survival mode on most fighting games that have one included.

    No, instead let's have one guy have his monster in the pit all day making things less fun for most of the other people around because all they can do is get stomped on by the champion since he's 20-30 levels higher.

    I believe Diablo should be ranked based rather than a single champion. I also believe no exp gained for defenders, only challengers.

    I made a post recently on another forum speaking on how Pankration could be changed for the better... I'll just skip to the Diablo part(other stuff mainly included matches being made in groups rather one at a time, levels being matched up while group of matches were assigned, low-FP monsters getting a FP boost, certain high-FP monsters getting a stat boost, a costly way for innates to be added/changed, betting, and reentry timers one universal and one per cage).

    [Note: Diablo didn't share a timer with the other cages and had a reentry timer of 3 real-life hours]

    1. Only the challenger gains experience points from matches in Diablo.

    2. The entire system is changed: Rather a single champion, there is a ranking system, not unlike Ballista. Simply it works as follows:

    Ten slots of Rank 40
    Ten slots of Rank 30
    Five slots of Rank 20
    Then 15-1.

    3. When a ranked character registers at Diablo, he will face the opponent ranked above him. At ranks 40, 30, and 20 this can be a random pick out of a group of 5 or 10.

    4. When an unranked character registers at Diablo, he will randomly face one of the Rank 40 combatants.

    5. The stats of a ranked monster will be adjusted based on when the player trades his Official Reflector(either to fight or to upgrade stats). A player will be required to do this once a real-life week or their monster will be removed from the rankings.

    6. After 150 wins, a champion is forcefully retired.

    7. Players ranked 1 to 5 get special benefits, such as being able to make HNM-type monsters/skins(Behemoth, Wyrm, Suzaku, Hippogryph, etc).

    Typically things that are that low die in 1 hit and can't hit the champ. If they do, it's probably for 0.

    Anyways, let's see what happens when we give it time. We really don't know the long term ramifications of this current design.

    Restricting max exp gained to like 400 would fix it I think. People would have to withdrawl a lot more often, letting others in to get some wins. I'm also all for removing the AFK-champ capability and requiring checking in after each mach or else the next match will be their last. Withdrawling should also keep your running win-streak count just for bragging rights as well (since that's all this thing is really about for now, at least until the big tournament).

    So wait, if a monster earns the championship by being a ton better than everyone else then it doesn't deserve to be champion?



    PS eventually (a couple weeks I'd say) we'll actually have quite a few level 50s. Let's see what happens then.

    if it can not be beaten i think it should not stay. if there is a chance of it being beaten it should stay

    if it can not be beaten i think it should not stay. if there is a chance of it being beaten it should stay

    What else is it going to do when it hits 50? Once it hits 50 all it can do is sit there and wait for another mob to hit 50 and beat it. The owner can't even level another mob.

    So baseball is probably what will happen.

    Uh, Max, and owner can level another monster... not that I agree with a system that doesn't let a champion be a champion.

    I always thought the champion pet should not be able to regen HP from fight to fight unless it has a Cure move or spell or something..

    atm it's just new, when the Champion is gone for a bit it's pretty cool though. I'm sure there are a few tweaks that could be made though. Also, there would be no point to putting your mob in the Diablo Cage if you got no exp for winning, so that's retarded. If they did that, people would be bitching about that, people always bitch about something. Is the system perfect? No, but I still find it fun.

    My New pet, Lv9 Taurus beat 2 a Lv13 and 14 mob to hit 11, then beat another Lv14 and a couple Lv11/12 mobs to level up some more. It's pretty fun and crazy if you set your pet up right, they can really overcome level differences.
