not if the champions are hogging the pit like they are nowOriginally Posted by Jooeetheplatypus
Cactus is still here , been days now.
It's a fairly made and properly executed system that I find no fault with.
It has problems now, but once the initial rush dies down, it will be fine.
Being the champion is based more on luck of having a decent monster early on than skill.
There are too few match slots relative to the popularity.
The application system is crap and only encourages third party tool use.
The system needs a way to prevent monsters below a certain level from clogging the applications.
Too many people are only using this to powerlevel their monsters, since you're guaranteed 100 experience here and the other pits are almost always mismatched.
The champion system is flawed because without being the champion, it takes weeks to get high enough to even compete.
With no rewards besides "bragging rights" for being the long running champion, it's unfair to keep a level 50 monster in that nobody else can even touch in at this time.
All of the above (minus first and/or second options).

We have a lot of level 20ish ones. At this rate then yes, we will have a bunch of level 50s in a couple weeks.Originally Posted by Lordwafik
Wouldn't you agree then, that a 1-man ranking system is flawed? If there were several ranks, level 20ish will beat level 20ish to fight level 30ish, who then continue to fight level 40ish and finally a champ at level 50ish.Originally Posted by Jooeetheplatypus
I'd much rather a rank system. The person with the cactus in there now is just leaving it there for peen at this point. It 1 shots every monster, nothing has a chance to kill it.
Not really. I like having the champ be the champ, not it be watered down. We can't all be the champ. That's not to say I don't think we should have better matchmaking, I do, but I think having "best of the level 20s" or such is stupid because of how quickly these monsters level. If the champion title changes every 5 matches than the title is pretty meaningless.Originally Posted by BRP

In the future, when there are 15+ 50s, the title will mean less than it would if one had to climb over other 50s to get to it.(and it will change way more often). If the champion title changes every 5 matches than the title is pretty meaningless.
At the moment, the champ is not looked at with envy but either annoyance(over the how lame the system is) or as a convenient way to gain exp while not giving a damn(since you are going to lose either way).
The whole 1-champ who auto levels constantly is just flawed in all situations.
And if you can't see how it fixes itself means you're just flawed in most situations.Originally Posted by BRP
Nice, uh, insult, but can you actually explain how ranked isn't better in every way?Originally Posted by Jooeetheplatypus

The earlier championships would be meaningless, we don't need meaningless crap.
Monsters would level out of their own championship while defending unless you had defenders gain no exp in which case nobody would keep defending their championship.
Oh look, it's not better in every way.
1. Hmmm, uh, yeah, I guess it would. Maybe that's due to how extremely simple the current system is. It's currently: "You are the champion" or "You are not the champion". By those standards, anything becomes more complex really.Makes things more difficult to understand

2. Earlier championships? There is just one champion and everyone working to get higher up.
3. ?
You meant ranked championships, right? Ranked based on level right?Originally Posted by BRP

So do you propose that you can't challenge the champion unless you fight through 7 other mobs first?
YesOriginally Posted by Jooeetheplatypus
So being second or third or whatever just ties up being able to do anything in Pankration (hi only one official reflector allowed) despite the fact that you don't get to be champion? So being rank 8 means you get to have all the exp of all the challengers, thus keeping the original problem of an unchanging, autoleveling champ? Except now rank 8 will probably be the most powerful.Originally Posted by BRP
Please notice how complex the actual implementation is and how it rises problems and thus isn't BETTER IN EVERY WAY.
It's not that complex... simply allow combat outside Diablo cage( even with different monsters if desired), and have the Diablo cage version stats upgrade everytime the player trades in his Official Reflector(may it be to adjust something or receive exp). I believe that's not too far off how chocobo raising/racing is done? Please notice how complex the actual implementation is and how it rises problems and thus isn't BETTER IN EVERY WAY.
I just want a 5th private cage reservable for a couple hours like Kokba Hostel.
Here is a fun fact Diablo has 472 battles pre day. I am guessing Diablo will work better when more people reach level 50.
When the rush dies down you'll mostly likely see players having friendly matches against a friend in A B C and D will be the level 50 pets duking it out with people leveling to 50 as fodder pading your wins.
I havent seen a champ in Diablo except for the NPC ones (The X, Mighty Heart and Croc Rock). Does the champ actually get xp for EACH win in his 200 fight stint? I have a feeling he doesnt, that way it doesnt make him invincible but nstead give him a chance to get beaten by the people who are actively getting stronger. This way the champ is meant to be beaten. The X was the champ in D all day when Pankration camp out and he still got beat by either Mighty Heart or Croc Rock eventually.
Not that I've seen a player be champ in D but couldnt a player cancel his match like in other cages?
Bow out so you can level a new pet and let the next 2 guys in line fight for the title spot.
Well, here's something interesting. I just talked to a guy who happened to get lucky when the champion of Diablo dropped out. He won 26 consecutive matches before the champ reentered. He said it only raised his skills by +1. So, in a way, the person/people on each server who have been owning Diablo from the start are going to be at a distinct disadvantage in a week or so when other people catch up to 50, for one because their feral skills will all be at gimped levels, and for another because they are probably going with the first plate they got last Monday, compared to people who have had the time to find one with awesome innate skills.
Edit: Wow I just found out, the bhoot that had been winning all night didn't actually drop out, there's a guy with a level 50 wyvre who puts it in just to beat the person dominating the cage, then drops out to let other people have a go at it.
