That's pretty nice damage, 2-hour 100% TP chain affinity sneak attack? I'm assuming you have STR, VIT and all equip unlockedOriginally Posted by Alpsyche

I don't have much to add that others haven't said before me. BLU is a solid job in Salvage.
One thing that hasn't been mentioned though is the usefulness of Stun spells (in particular Head Butt, Tail Slap, Frypan).
If you're doing an LBC run and are attempting to weaken the boss via the 10 gear kills, having a BLU cycle through stun physicals is an amazing way to keep AoEs and Restoral from going off. This in turn saves mp for your healers and makes the kills that much faster.
For any archaic gear type mobs its a pretty solid strategy to Head Butt > Tail Slap > Head Butt > Frypan > Head Butt. You can even go /DRK to throw in one more (or use Temporal Shift, though the recast is long).
That said, if you bring BLU make sure you're grabbing dusty ethers/elixirs etc. You can and will burn through MP quickly. For some runs, MP Drainkiss might be an option, but its very situational depending on which remnants you're running.
1st: Your sig is shiny and annoying.
2nd: We typically have someone always on BLU in salvage. Quick, fast, efficent damage for a lower mp cost.
On a sidenote I'm glad this question was posted I was a bit curous myself.Originally Posted by Genosync

Indeed stupid sig!It also makes no damn sense. Why would they be fighting outside the tree house of some moogle?
Anyway, comin from a blu/blm/rdm, I can see no reason to go blu to salvage if you have any other mage job lvled because it will help way more. Only reason you should be goin blu is If your low on DD and have another RDM.
Dia3/phalanx2/haste/cure > blu
Hmm one of the members of my static which will be starting next week is brd, blu, blm. we already have another person with better brd gear and +1 ballad horn, so should i normally have him come on blm? Or as usual is the answer "shit is situational" depending on the purpose of the run?Originally Posted by Ruin
Typcially I'm missing a few stats or gear spots when it comes to the end, but that's ok. Early w/ Magic and Weapon you can dish out head butts, diss's and Bludgeons so nice fast damage for nearly no MP spending. Towards the end you can really help with the Diamondhide, Cocoon and obviously the Damage. The screenshot you see is staff cannonballing, so no TP and likely under 600 defense. It is definetly 2hr, CA, SA Cannonball though.Originally Posted by Uzor
We group anywhere from 6 to 12 and I have a completed BLM available also if needed (Genie, Morrigan etc) and THF. BLU just hammers it out faster and makes a really nice alternative to play out salvage with regularly.
In the cell limited areas, you probably want to go with something less needy, but each path has it's challenges and available options for each. Anything that needs a boss hammered down, I'd consider taking the BLU along for the ride.
As far as BLM goes, Salvage is usually a race against the clock and MP-efficient damage usually beats out sheer damage numbers, as far as I'm concerned. Similar to a merit party, I guess. BLU performs better than BLM when DoT/efficiency matters more than sheer output. That's not to say there isn't times when BLM is preferred (QQA's, Chariots you can stun, sleeping linked Zhayolm 3FN mamool ja, etc).Originally Posted by Ruin
Of course RDM is always useful, and is probably usually better to take than BLU. But, if you've got very solid RDM's already like my group does, it doesn't make much sense to add another when instead, you could go BLU and take on a number of roles.
I've personally been shooting for pushing my Cannonballs on LAC higher. It's too fun to resist, lol. My top so far is 2270. That's with Tav Tacos, STR/VIT etudes, full unlock, and good (but not the best) Cannonball gear. Also, Azure Lore, SACA of course, and somewhere between 100 and 200 TP. I'm not good at the math behind it all, but experimentation (and a bard that runs with us and is solid on his FFXI math) has shown me that with good Cannonball gear, Cocoon, and Tav Tacos, it's more efficient to use STR/VIT etudes than Minnes because LAC doesn't have overly-high DEF.Originally Posted by Uzor
I go BLU to every Salvage, and I go every night. Standard BLU tricks on the way up, but then switch to debuff + support on top floor. CA Disseverment for the poison effect, Cold Wave for the Frost, Frightful Roar if no one has Acid Bolt capabilities, Magic Fruit, set Mag. Defence bonus and stay right up by the tanks for Diamondhide + Healing Breeze + Debuffing. It's quite nice, and BLU really speeds kills up on the way up to the boss.
For boss fights, is it better to go /thf?
I don't salvage often, but I went the other day with Suiram on BLU, and he stunned 3 frog charmgas, and about 6 providence spells, in the course of 1 madam. I would say blu well and truely paid for itself.
BTW, if you want to disseverment just for the poison and dont want to give the full 50tp that goes with it, cast it with a staff. If BLU physical magic is subject to the same melee and acc has a lower bound of 20%, it should have a 67% of hitting atleast 1 hit, even with no accuracy at all. (or you can SA it with a staff for 1 garunteed hit and a good chance the rest will miss).
What about BLU in Arrapago? Do you think that is worth it since weapon cells are so hard to obtain?
Very, MNKs can wait for weapons, we give our 2 initial cells to me as BLU, and a THF. Magic isn't too hard to get, and speeds kills up a great deal once BLU gets it.
Oh, thanks. I was getting the message that the lack of weapon unlocks made BLU useless.
last night we took BLU with us on salvage for the first time & we did Arrapago. I was surprised at how good BLU ended up being.
We unlocked MNK/NIN + RDM magic with chest, next magic went to BLU and helped a ton. I think it was definitely worth it. Made some situations that would have otherwise been dicey trivial. Jobs were: MNK, THF, BLU, BRD, RDM, BLM, WHM, WHM
