I'm pretty sure using manpower to subdue him would have hurt a lot more than using a tazer on low-power. That shit barely hurts; it's like putting your finger into a socket. I'm sure if the police would have tried to carry him out and he would have broken a bone there would be an uproar too.

In a way, I think people are reacting to the taser more than they would to wrestling him to the ground, because they see it as a "dangerous_technology".

Try having cops arrest you when you haven't done shit and either use force, mace or a taser. A lot of cops feel free reign to do whatever they want and go way overboard in a lot of situations. When he decided to resist them they should have pinned him down, gotten a hold of him and taken him outside, they also should have been smart enough to realize where they were and that tazering a student after answering a question like that would likely be caught on film.

Two FSU players arrested, suspended from team after bar fight

Two Florida State football players were arrested today and suspended from the team in connection with a fight at a Tallahassee bar.

Junior linebacker Eugene "Geno" Hayes, a starting linebacker from Madison County and the team's second-leading tackler, and senior fullback Joe Surratt, were both arrested outside Potbelly's, a popular hangout spot on College Avenue.


Here's what happened, according to the Tallahassee Police Department:

At about 1:45 a.m., officers were across the street from Potbelly's when they saw Hayes, who was shirtless, screaming profanities and waving his arms wildly. He appeared to be trying to enter the bar while other men were trying to restrain him.

Officers Michael Malafronte and Michael Petroczky approached the bar to find out why Hayes was so upset. A bar employee told them that Hayes had been involved in an altercation inside the bar and that his friends were trying to escort him home.

Malafronte tried to calm Hayes down, but Hayes responded with profane language and became aggressive toward Malafronte. His friends kept trying to calm him down and restrain him. Malafronte told him he would be arrested if he didn't leave.

Hayes broke free from his friends and ran toward Malafronte with his fists clenched. He yelled a threat at Malafronte, who responded by pointing his Taser at him.

Petroczky tried to escort Hayes from the scene, but Hayes resisted. Petroczky took him to the ground, but Hayes continued to resist. Malafronte then shot him with his Taser.

Hayes was arrested on charges of assault on a law-enforcement officer, disturbing the peace and resisting arrest without violence. He was released from the Leon County Jail on $1,250 bail, according to Sgt. Norman Mack of the Sheriff's Office.

Surratt was arrested on charges of battery on a law-enforcement officer, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest without violence. He was released from the jail on $1,750 bail.

Dave Hart, director of athletics for FSU, issued a statement saying, "The student-athletes have been suspended per our Athletics Department Student-Athlete Code of Conduct policy, until all of the facts of the incident are reviewed. We are continuing to gather facts related to the circumstances."

I'm a hell of a lot more sympathetic to the cops when it's two of them dealing with two linebackers, one of which was definitely showing a lot of aggressive, violent behavior. Tasering when they're pinned on the ground still seems questionable, but overall that report seems pretty reasonable.
