Has anyone confirmed if they are having low FPS problems with the 7 and 6 Series cards or is it the 8 series only?

I've got a Dell XPS M1710 with a Geforce Go 7900 GS, 1GB of Ram, 2ghz dual core (runs at 3.8ghz overall?) and I very rarely get 30 fps. I get 10-15 in cities, 25 if nobody is around. This is only a slight improvement over my last laptop which has 256 gb of ram, intel integrated graphics (64mb) and a 1.8ghz processor :/Originally Posted by Izzy
Oh and PS: I'm running XP
Sorry I created a new topic and ment it to be placed in this sticky.
I know the expansion is coming out soon (we are hoping it will fix this problem), and I have been looking this issue up (i recently got a new computer, Nvidia 8300 GS, Vista Home, and INtel processor.) I didn't really want to go to drastic measures as to dual boot or completely uninstall Vista so I kept poking around. I found this:

I was wondering if anyone has tried this yet. I am planning on tring this today, however I'm at work now and have to wait til later.
Edit: Damnit, forgot the link.
I'm at work Q_Q
Someone give me a report on how Vista+nVidia 8xxx+FFXI works when the servers come up!!!
There is something else going on there if you're running 15 FPS on a 7900GS.
The people with the Intel Quad Core Processors and 8800 cards reported they were running as low as 3-7 FPS with as little as one character around. This is the same problem I was having until I switched to XP.
The funny thing is my Benchmark score was 6009 on the Intel Machine and 5886 on the AMD both running Vista using the nVidia 8600GT
and I had tried those hotfixes they didn't work![]()
Absolutely no difference . . . still getting 5-10 fps max in city areas.Originally Posted by Izzy

Well, the hotfixes did help me a little, still get the horrible fps, but atleast i'm at 10-15 in crowded areas. Not what I want though. I guess all we can hope for is expansion to help us.
Any word on if the expansion (which hopefully came with Dx9, or was it with the patch, or an all out lie) fixed the Vista+Intel+nVidia poor FPS problem? I know the PC version is delayed but I bet a handful of you already installed that torrented version for PC already!
Here's hoping >.<
it didn't work for me. I'm forced to install Windows XP
it's definitely not a vista problem, as my old x1950XT 512MB ATI card under Vista x64 (THE absolute least supported version of windows currently being sold, as far as drivers and program support) ran the game flawlessly, occasionally dipping into the mid 20's in heavily populated areas (bazaar locations on my server such as batallia). whitegate AH would dip into the mid-teens on my ATI cardOriginally Posted by Sanjiyan
after upgrading to my 8800GTX under the same OS, the framerates are half (if not worse) than they were on my old card which is definitely not as powerful as my GTX
nvidia & square need to focus on getting a new driver out for this ancient game, but don't hold your breath. nvidia CSR's will tell you that it isn't their problem which in actuality it is
It IS a Vista issue...but only with nVidia cards. nVidia's drivers for DX8.1 apparently blow donkey nuts with Vista. Apparently SE said they are working on a fix with nVidia...but they haven't acknowledged there is an issue to the public, only in tech support calls.Originally Posted by Reality
If it was a Vista issue then the same thing would happen to people with amd chipsets, which it does not. Its some weird unexpected combination created by nvidia intel and vista thats missing something needed to play ffxi up to speed.
they need to fix this gdi, i wanna do linux on my main desktop
btw, you dont get the huge frame rate drop in first person mode as much as you do in 3rd person, however i cant play the game in first person, and no way could i ever solo anything on RDM in first person either so thats out =/
edit: debating on saying f it and using xp... however i cant find the Audigy HD stuff for xp for my laptop =/

"Any word about a fix for the problems with the nVidia Series 8 graphics cards?
Yes, but the problem is not with Final Fantasy XI. For the longest time Microsoft and nVidia were saying that it wasn't them, but now nVidia claims to be working on something to fix the issues."
After talking with nVidia I gave up. They are ignorant and not much helpfull. I changed to XP and now everything is working fine. No more nVidia for me. Never.
