Woo, been waiting for the dual monitor SLI forever! They said it was "in progress" for like 2 years now...

Instead of making a new thread i'll post it here.

Looking for the Good driver link, for nvidia Card to work well with FFXI, on XP 32bits.

Since i reformated my PC getting some MEGA LAG in Whitegate, outside is usually fine, but last time at ixion was getting some randomly lag spikes.

I have a Geforce 8600GT, and i had 0 problem before the reformat, and i lost the driver link

    Thx

I just recently picked up a nVidia Geforce GTX 260 and am having the horrible frame-rates issue we've all heard of dozens of times before. What I was wondering is if anyone knows of a driver beta or otherwise, that works well with this card? I'm currently running the latest 180.48 release from nVidia.

So I've managed "ok" with a beta driver for my 9500m GS, but I'm still not getting what I should be.

Has anyone found a driver for the 9500M GS that's giving them exceptional frame rates?

Need some help here. Trying to install POL for vista on my new laptop and as soon as the download finished I tried to run it to start the install but it just gave me an error saying "Error reading setup initialization file."

I tried running as Admin but nothing. Should I delete and reinstall or any other ideas?

174.74 is the one that works best IMO, but it shouldn't make the game look like SNES. Try messing with your ingame settings and increaseing the resolution and background resolution and see if that does anything for you

    Hi,

I'm looking to buy a new PC and i'd like to make sure it will run FFXI and hopefully much better than my current PC (regarding specs, it really should)

    processor: Intel core 2 quad Q9400. 1333MHz 6MB cache
    ram: 4GB
    G Card: Nvidia 9500 GT Galaxy 1GB
    OS: windows XP

Ive read here that nvidia + windows XP has no FPS problems, but my main concern is if 9500GT Galaxy can or cannot run FFXI.
I would think it does, but after looking POL site it lists as working cards:

    GeForce 9600 GT OK (175.16) OK (175.16)
    GeForce 8800Series OK (175.16) OK (175.16)
    GeForce 8600Series OK (175.16) OK (175.16)
    GeForce 7900Series OK (163.75) OK (93.71)
    GeForce 7800Series OK (163.75) OK (93.71)
    GeForce 7600Series OK (163.75) OK (93.71)
    GeForce 7300Series OK (163.75) OK (93.71)
    GeForce 6800Series

    etc.

Im not sure if that means 9500 doesnt work or if it's implied when they say 960 works.

    Thanks in advance

9500 GT would work fine, but that card is terrible if you're putting it into that kind of PC build. It's like pairing up a lobster dinner with a back of Tostitos.

I started having some issues with either my video drivers or the card itself yesterday. It started with saying that 'nvlddmkm.sys had stopped responding but recovered' followed by it not recovering

Restarting the computer yielded no video once windows loaded, and a second restart brought up a startup repair utility of some sort. The utility apparently couldn't fix it (it gave me a BSOD and told me to try again.) Restarting once again, I was able to load windows (and see it) for about 3 hours while I used Firefox and updated windows. I then was able to play FFXI long enough to warp and run into my mog house. While standing in my mog and doing nothing, the driver stopped responding once again. I had tried tweaking the resolution a bit yesterday (and played for about 4hrs before I had problems) so I decided to try giving myself SNES graphics to see if it would fix it... And my video crashed and did not recover while changing the numbers in the windower launcher.

To my question: Should I risk updating my graphics drivers to see if it will help, or should I reinstall the current drivers? Or does my crappy 2-3 year old computer need a new graphics card?

    My system:
    Visa Home Premium x32
    Intel Core 2 6300 (1.86GHz)
    3GB Ram
Nvidia GeForce 7300 LE (Driver version 7.15.11.6925)

I pulled the driver version out of the device manager. I'm not 100% sure, but I'm almost positive this is the driver recommended for Vista+FFXI+NVidia. And either way, I've been using it successfully for over a year.

The newest version of the driver is 186.18 and is compatible with my card.

    Hi.
Gonna try to make this short since Fen is waiting on a reply.

I also started having some problems yesterday (inside FFXI).
I've been running FFXI with the 180.48 nvidia driver up until now (since it's the one that's been the least laggy for me). I installed the latest driver yesterday, 186.18, which runs the game nice and smooth (even lets me play with full shadows n all), apart from one thing.. When i zone thru either tele/recall/warp/trace/flies out of salv, the screen goes apeshit. Horizontal flickering over the whole screen (with the loading logo in lower right corner).
Zoning thru other methods works fine, like on foot, choco, OP npcs, wildcat npcs (300g), etc.
Any idea what the problem might be? I've tried reinstalling the driver 3 times, upgraded to SP2, still same problem.

    Thnx in advance.

It sounds like your video card may be starting to go. Do you get any artifacting on the screen while playing? I'd try updating your drivers regardless.

Doesn't sound like that driver is playing nice with FFXI. Do you have SLI enabled when playing? I'd try turning it off if so. I'd also try completely wiping out the drivers (Driver Sweeper is a great program to do this, run it in same mode) and reinstalling. Sometimes just overwriting the drivers isn't effective.

If all else fails you may just have to go back to the original drivers you used.

I have looked and read many posts today, for about 5-6 hours now about this topic of Nvidia + Vista + FFXI. I had a problem that was just wierd, I can't find anything, anywhere of people having this specific problem.

    Here is my PC
HP - AMD Phenom 9150e Quad Core Processor
    5 GB Ram
    NVidia GeForce 9400GT
Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit

I've had this PC about 8 months, I've never had problems running ffxi since i got it all set up using various guides and posts.

Using Windower 3.3, last night i left my characters on all night and there was a PoL update. So I decided today before I got into any events i would reboot and dl the new PoL update + Restart PC. After doing just that, i pulled up PoL viewer using windower and it comes up with some random values in the areas of Member Name, ID, PW etc. Random values being some JP text (ithink), shapes of sorts, etc. At first I had one Member that was ok, an alt Character, I clicked, logged on all fine. But i wanted to log on my main char, and the values where my PoL,SE ID, and member name were all random crap.

So I restarted to come back to all, even my alt char's info scrambled random crap. I tried logging on and it would crash as soon as it got to "Enter PW." Hmm, maybe windower doesn't work with new update i thought... So i tried normal PoL and the values in Member name, pol ID etc. were all random stuff again.

I have tried alot of things. I'm not good with programming in anyway. I've updated drivers, got the new windower. Nothing I am trying is getting it to where I can even log on with this PC to FFXI. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm ready to read ditch Vista, which I understand... But i can't understand why it worked flawlessly for 8 months, now i can't even get PoL viewer to work. I'm wondering if anyone else noticed any changes in PoL patch yesterday.

Does it look like it's artifacting? That could be the sign of a failing video card.. maybe the timing is just a coincidence.

I'm not familiar with artifacting, I'm really inexperienced with this.
Everything on the PoL Viewer opening page looks fine, except where it says:

ID: white rectangle boxes, about 6 of them, where my PoL ID should be
And Where my Char names should be is the same, white rectangles, foreign text and the letter R

Also any button on the opening PoL viewer i hit, automatically crashes it.

Is there anyway i can find out if it's my card failing? I'm really just at a loss of what to actually do.

Edit: I tried running some other random games, and they all worked fine.

Odd. Have you checked files in POL?

Not sure how i would actually do that without being able to use the Check Files button in PoL viewer. It still crashes any time i hit a button.

Edit: So I downloaded PoL system info app. I noticed that the VRAM value was blank. And I ran a connection test, it was not able to connext to server for most of the tests. so that was a failure. Any ideas if that may be my problem?

Had a similar problem with vista that developed and then fixed itself of its own accord, PoL would crash randomly, for no apparent reason, nothing else had been installed graphics drivers remained the same, couple of weeks like this, then bam, all fixed.
