I've been having a problem with my laptop recently where the screen suddenly freezes, starts flashing (think seizure-inducing lights) for about 5 seconds, goes black for three, and then recovers with an error message of "Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding, but has succesfully recovered." This boots me off FFXI but leaves other windows fine.

Has anyone else been having this problem? Anyone got a fix to recommend?

    Thanks in advance.

I'd wipe out your drivers and reinstall them.

Made a thread, but i could've easily posted here tho..

Anyone using this vid card for FFXI? (GeForce GTS 250)
Will it run it without the 7fps annoyance?
FFXI and newer Nvidia cards (and Vista) aren't that compatible, as most of you know. The system running is a Core2Quad with currently a 8400 card. Running very bad with multple people. How will the GTS 250 do? Anyone have experience? Or a good alternative to get 29 fps during campaign and such, should be possible on current systems no? I know its CPU based and PS2 etc. etc. but which card will run it good nowadays?

    Thought I'd try posting here.

Recently bought a new laptop, Vista 32bit, Core2duo and a 9600m GT. Tried quite a few drivers but I've had no luck with any of them. Getting the drop in FPS like everybody else. Anybody have any experience with this card and running FFXI without the drop in FPS?

For almost any NVidia card, one of the best driver to use for FFXI is the 174.74

    works fine usually

    NVIDIA DRIVERS 174.74 BETA

Thanks for the reply, but that driver is unfortunately uncompatible with my card

I think I managed to buy the card that FFXI just about hates the most D:

Tried installing the driver, but it told me whatever I was using was uncompatible with those drivers. D:

Do you know if those drivers (174.74) are compatible with the GeForce 9400GT? I'm using 190.62 atm and the FPS is shit.

Instead of making a new thread, I'll post this here. I got this computer a few months ago and have been getting a problem intermittently where the screen freezes up for a second and then 'blinks', causing FFXI to crash. A notice pops up saying "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered".

    System I'm running is:
    Intel Core i7 920 @ 2.67GHz
    6 gigs of RAM
    Windows Vista 64 Home Premium
    2x NVidia GeForce GTS 250

I've tried it with and without SLI set up, I've tried several different driver versions for the 250, and various ranges of graphics settings. If I run one instance of FFXI, it will happen eventually but fairly infrequently. If I try to 2box on here, it will crash pretty much within an hour. FFXI is the only program that gives me this problem, any other game I've cared to run has worked without issue. Has anyone else ever seen this? I'd rather not revert to XP. Is Windows 7 any better with this? Or do other Nvidia/non-NVidia video cards work any better?

    Bumping this..

have a vista+geforce 8200M G on a laptop. Had a video driver crash and reinstall automatically which reduced my performance to shit.

So Taking Ratatapa's word for it, I went and grabbed that 174.74 driver installed it with a custom INF and voila I got my frame rate back up to around 29 (15ish @ AH) (which is good for my machine with crappy vista)

What Im saying is, all the people asking if this driver is compatable etc.

Basically, every nvidia driver is compatible with every nvidia device. You just need a custom INF file to install it. The instructions to do this is a few posts back, and if u need I can recap in detail

Summary: Yes 174.74 is compatible with your video card.... as long as its an nvidia.

So I apologize in advanced for not reading this thread completely, but being without a driver, it's making it hard to read anything... but I digress.

I am currently on a laptop with Windows XP and a GeForce 9700M GT card. The last driver set I was using was causing FFXI to lag significantly more than it does on my desktop, which also runs XP and has a worse card. I am trying to download the latest set of drivers, but it doesn't seem to understand the aspect ratio of my screen... so I'm thinking I'm installing the wrong one. I uninstalled the driver, hence my current mess.

What should I be using for this card and operating system?
