The sad truth is that their wiki was built off of the work of others and they get to cash in. Don't get me wrong, they probably did a ton of admin/clean-up work along the way. I think that taking others' information and selling it goes against what a wiki was supposed to be: A collaborative effort amongst a community. Selling "our work" cheapens it and betrays what wiki should be.

In my opinion, the BGwiki might 'stick it to the man' but the masses will still use the ffxiclopedia. BGwikians have a uphill battle to "replace" the usefulness of the ffxiclopedia.

Until they own up to the truth, all they continue to do is dig themselves a hole. Unless they honestly believe that having 98% approval from KI, Alla, ect and 0% from BG is good and they can continue business as planned.

It takes a while to construct a lie to dangle in front of Alla kiddies and watch as they giggle and play with the shiny new thing.

This reminds me of when Alla was bought out, and not wanting to have any affiliation with IGE, users requested their guides be taken down.

Shouldn't users who submitted their information to the wiki be allowed to take it down? or will Charitwo just revert it back?

If users don't want their information and research used by fraudulent liars, they should be allowed to remove that information from the wiki. It would make this "up hill battle" non-existant.

Although more people will stop using it than people who will, 40.6% were ignorant to the issue before reading the title of the poll and will probably ask what happened and so a lot of them will stop using it too.

Fixed. While the group that wasn't aware of this has a higher # of people who wouldn't care, we're still dealing with a relatively short time for people to find out about this. A good chunk of that 40.6% will become, in part because of the ki poll, curious what happened, will find out what happened, and take similar views as the majority who already knew about it.

And hell, when I get home I'm putting as good of a summary on this and where to get more info in my bazaar comment.

You're forgetting a simple fact. Let's say the editors for the wiki were comprised of mainly alla, KI, and BG. Take away BG (and quite possibly KI from the looks of the poll), and who is left updating their wiki? That's right, zam.

Sure, they have the guides and info people have contributed already. That can't be changed. But FFXI is everchanging (see 2h patch, pankration, and the new expansion on the horizon), and that information will get old before long. Without BG to do their dirty work for them, they'll have to resort to stealing from BGwiki to keep their info up-to-date, and the only people who are going to care enough to put in their time to copy articles over from BGwiki will be Ganiman and those affixed to his genitalia. Plus, any time there was a discrepancy in the information on the wiki, BG people would step in to correct it. Without us, ffxiclopedia would still be telling people that WS could be paralyzed.

Eventually, no matter how many other people continue to use ffxiclopedia, people will find their information becoming increasingly inaccurate. People will get frustrated, and won't understand why ffxiclopedia is missing so many articles, or misinforming them about so many things, and they'll move on. A wiki depends upon the community to keep it fresh and accurate, and now that ffxiclopedia has lost the support of the community, it's only a matter of time before they fall.

So it won't really matter how many people decide to still use ffxiclopedia, because once they start having trouble finding the information they need there, they'll discover BGwiki and start going there for everything they couldn't find at ffxiclopedia.

I don't know about everyone else, but I come across a lot of people in game who are horribly misinformed about game mechanics. These are probably the same people who aren't even bothering to read the emails, and are just blindly following/believing the ffxiclopedia admins.

Different spelling, and Eruntalon was full of shit anyway. His big secret was to craft repeatedly facing the same direction in order to "Force" HQ's.

Edit: Looking back at my notes. He would craft an item of the same level repeatedly waiting for a long period of NQ and then switch to the desired craft to "Force" an HQ.

Tell friends to read about it and post in theirs. Etc. Post on server forums on KI. Whatever. Continuing to just talk about it here won't do any good in spreading the word.

I've already got a short debate going on with another BG user in my comments (I insist people refrain from flaming other people in my comments, or I will edit them). It's interesting at least, to more fully hear the more thought out arguments on the other side (since the generalized statements aren't helping).

I did my part and brought it to the attention to the members of my LS. They still plan on using the wiki all the time and are siding with the admins, but at least I made them aware something was even going on.
