As for the remaining funds to be used for the WotG giveaway, they will be that amount leftover from the fundraiser, not from Wikia. The discussion over these use of these funds started in late August shortly after the announcement. Wikia was generous and offered to pay for some or all of the the giveaway if we desired. We originally accepted because, well, why not. It was not because there was no money, because any money was missing, or any other fanciful idea.

I've remained silent thus far as I've had nothing to contribute, but just wanted to see how Gahoo feels this portion of his comment is justified, especially since no one else has pointed it out yet.

You put up a fundraiser for the sole and express purpose of paying server fees to "keep the wiki running, and keep it independent" (paraphrase).
Up until this point, the server costs came out of pocket, presumably Ganiman's from the time the site was first launched up until the first dollar he saw from an outside source (whatever that may be).
As such, the fundraiser implies that the money is only to be used for the continuing fees related to the servers. No where on the fundraiser did it say that the money would be used for past expenses or as compensation for past expenses to recoup personal losses.

This, in turn, whether a legal contract or not, is a bond of honor, morality, and mutual respect between wiki and the ffxi community that the money is in good faith going towards keeping the wiki up, and nothing else.

What you are saying here, Gahoo, if I am reading this correctly, is this:

1.) There were indeed "remaining funds" from the server costs.

2.) The decision was made to "return the funds" to the community via "free" merchandise. I can appreciate the difficulty in trying to figure out how to give the money back, but it is a problem
of your own creation by selling out to Wikia. Ignoring even that fact,

3.) You elect instead to NOT return the funds, but POCKET THEM, and let Wikia "return the money" to the community. So in essence, whether the community "gets its money back" or not (debatable if you consider getting a xpack - that most people who care have probably pre-ordered anyways - qualifies as getting your donation money back), you still in the end are in possession of $2300 that was not given to you for, i dunno, Jetski's.

And how do you explain your actions?

From what I understand, they haven't gotten a dime from SE yet. Their contract is to provide polling information. Their first poll isn't scheduled until the beginning of October.

First, I don't understand how the OP changes anything.

It seems like if you read the e-mails, you are against FFXIclopedia, if you don't, you are for them. How can anyone read through that much collusion to lie to the community and still defend them?

Not only will they plan to take the credit themselves "if it comes up," but the oh so generous copies of WotG are given away if you participate in their survey. And where does the survey go? Straight to SE for $500. So in the end, nothing is really being given back. You're earning them money, which more than pays for those 50 copies.

Sounds pretty finalized to me. Although now they say they did a complete 180 and refused? And why does anything need to be "figured out?" Shouldn't there have been a totally separate account for donations? One not mixed in with personal funds.
