    Re: FFT

Not EVERYTHING... but most skills will cause at least a small slowdown.

Big skills like special knight abilities.. statis sword, night sword, will be major lag.

Smaller stuff like throw stone and panther cat scratch and stuff will cause smallish lag.

(this was played on cso@222, I heard that uncompressed and at 333 it runs slightly faster, but the lag is still noticeable)

There's also always the possibility they just wanted to fuck europe over, and the american version doesn't have bad slowdowns but... lol@that ever happening

Has anyone heard anything about multiplayer? I heard you can't really do VS. battles outside of Ad-Hoc mode. But there was apparently some unofficial way to do, that a group of Japanese fans threw together. Anyone have any info?

1up's demo'd the US version. Supposedly SE's taken care of all the lag issues and the slowdowns are on par to it's PS1 counterpart. (which isn't noticeable)

The sound however still isn't that great compared to the original.

Yep, XlinkKai as Julian stated is what you would need. To be quite general it sets up a tunneling network, tricking your PSP into thinking that it is actually connecting to a LAN.

You will need to visit their link, register a gamer tag, and then download and setup Xlink Kai on your PC. You will also need a wireless card, WiFi Max for PSP is highly recommended so that you don't lose all functionality on your other wireless devices should you even be able to set it up WITHOUT a WiFi Max. There is tons of info there.

And yes, XlinkKai is utilized in japan to a ridiculous degree, it is almost to the point that if you have a PSP there, you have Xlink Kai.

This is how many people play MHF2 'online' outside of Ad hoc. Even Capcom 'condones' it with a tutorial on their own forums on how to get it up and running.

As for the slowdown, i just wonder if it will be SO bothersome that it takes all the enjoyment out of one of my favorite games ever. Opinion there Julian? I would assume you consider it playable? Do you just deal and ignore it after a while or what? Still... disappointed =(

    Re: FFT

I've only played the first 3 battles on the PAL version because I want to wait out for the NA version, so I haven't really formed my opinion yet.

But honestly, I don't know, atm I'm stuck on the fence in this issue. I want to see all the new stuff this has to offer, and most of all I want to see all of the new translation.. The slow down isn't the end of the world, but it's a real slap on the face when stuff like that stone throw ability causes lag.

I'm going to put up with it, at least just so I can see all of the new translation, but after that I think I'll be going back to playing the original version on my psp.

(Have you played the JP version? The PAL version pretty much has the same slow downs... if anything, it might be slightly better. Like if the JP lag was 100%, this would be 80%, 0% being no lag at all. If you haven't played the JP version, look here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vSNWgAs8zE for some lag.)

In other news, Disgaea coming the end of this month =D

    Re: FFT

Watched the vid, 10-12 seconds for an aga from start to finish hitting 3 enemies... sheesh. So, it doesn't look UNBEARABLE, but it looks painful at least. I guess i was expecting it to just be awful. Not saying that isn't bad, but... it is hard to hate this game >.>

Wow, i think that makes me a FFT Fanboy. Shyte.

It isn't going to make me cancel my pre-order (and nope, never did play the JP version) just yet.

Watching Disgaea's release date like a hawk, unfortunately never did have time to finish the original release on PS2, so this is exciting. But then... Monster Hunter Freedom 2 is sucking the life out of me XD, so i will have plenty to keep me busy.

    Can't wait.

Grae, those videos you saw are most likely European or Japan, not the NA version.

But I guess we shall see.

    Re: FFT

Yeah, they are definitely not the US version, but i have to assume that the chances of the US version having any major changes, like a distinct lack of slowdown, is pretty unlikely. It is going to be an annoyance for sure, but either way i have to get the game ya know?

The dialogue might bother me a bit as well, but hell... i have the original and can play that if i want to. This is just kind of a "treat."

I imagine the "yep, still has slowdown" posts should be flooding lolGameFAQS anytime now, if they haven't already.

    Re: FFT

They never said it had 'no slowdown'. They essentially said it had been fixed considerably so that it is not distracting and is about on par with the ps1 version. But again we'll see. It just is annoying to keep harping on it until we see the final version tomorrow .

    DAMN YOU LET ME HARP!!!

    =P

I really think it won't matter, I expect the EUR and US version to be identical as far as slowdown, with the JP version having the most noticeable amount. Whatever, I will still be getting it some time in the coming weeks. =)

    Horrible...

EDIT: The slow down is so bad that it makes the "ding" noise of shadowblade hitting during the middle of the animation... Plus i hate what they renamed certain ablities too...

God damnit. >_> They didn't fix Night Sword's Ping? It used to be badass! I'm reluctant to even buy it now, honestly, knowing they did this half-ass a job on the US version having all summer to fix it. I want Square Soft back.

    Re: FFT

Yeah, "official" word on the street from buyers of the US version today says it is no different than the EUR version as far as slowdown (or anything else.)

You still have people on both sides of the fence. "Slowdown makes it unplayable" -> "The Slowdown is not as bad as everyone says, it is still hella fun!"

Same thing with the dialogue, lovers and haters of the new script. Just have to check it out yourself it sounds like, like most everything.

Hope that's not an Enix reference, lol, cause I'm sure they had a lot to do with this

It's on demonoid, slowdown is same as europe version as I thought it would be, lol. It's annoying as hell, but I'm gonna try to enjoy it, at least just to see the new script.

Only reason I'm playing this is cause I'm pirating it. No way in hell I'd pay for this horrible piece of shit they put together. I strongly advice others to do the same, they don't deserve to make money off of shit like this.

One good thing about the remake so far is the new movies that are hand drawn and the voice acting :D
