I picked up my copy today. Looks so nice, but I don't want to get too far into the story until I finish Brave story first .

I am definitely enjoying this version, again I never really played through the original PSX version fully, which is why I was really anticipating this.
I have to admit the really romanticized dialogue is sometimes so romanticized that it makes it difficult to discern what they are trying to say. Maybe some happy medium between the 2 may have been better.
Still a great game though of course, and the cutscenes are really nice.
To go as far as to call it a piece of shit is a little harsh though. Especially with 2 complete new characters and jobs.

Did you know that Luso's job is just a straight copy of Ramza's final Squire job, with an innate ability of poach added in? Wow, they sure were creative with that!
The 2 new jobs are kinda meh. Onion Knight are pointless because it requires mastering all other jobs for it to become usable, and when that happens, other jobs are far better choices than a job who only has massive hp and attack <_< Onion Knight has no skills and can't equip any skills at all, wonder how much effort they put into making that job.Dark Knight on the other hand, if you ignore the super long requirements, is actually a pretty decent job. Too bad they made the new dark swords useless compared to knight swords.[/pointless rant]
Regardless, I wasn't even considering these things when I called this game crap. Those new things are neat and unique, but the reason this game is crap, imo, is because they did such a horrible job porting it to the PSP, and just left that horrid lag in there instead of doing something about it.
It's stupid that they took so long to port this over to the PSP, a machine that's much stronger than the original PlayStation, and they made the game lag like hell. The ISO size isn't much bigger than 400mb, if they had bothered to do this right, they could have easily made this the most awesome thing to ever happen, but they fucked it up badly, and released this crap because they knew that people would buy it anyway. Why should they waste money making real quality games when people buy their shit any way they sell it? (hi2u all those remix games that they keep releasing in japan) The answer to combat this is simply to just not buy it, but people are gonna ignore me anyway so w/e, I did my part in not buying this game.
I will agree with the translation comment though, I think you hit the nail right on the head. It's nice that they made all these changes, but it does feel they go too far a few times, and should have tried to find a happy medium instead.
I have the PS1 version, and I decided to pick up the PSP version today. I'm loving it ;p idk why people are saying this is a shit remake. But, whatever...watch youtube videos before you purchase it I guess, just to see if the slow down bothers u as much.
I hear ya Julian, I hear ya. I have to think even though this machine is so much more powerful than the PS1, there is some hardware issue that affects the porting. The reason I say this is because people have listed a lot of the same complaints with that Valkyrie Profile Lenneth in that it lags somewhat and is kind of a half assed port.
Now maybe this is just them being lazy on both to cash in which is always a possibility, but it could be there is some innate issue.
At the same time, both FFT and VP were PS1 games that were great but largely missed, especially FFT since it came out right around the same time as VII. I know i know it is worshiped among its fans, but its group of fans isn't as big as other titles. With that said at least they are porting games which people did not get to play rather than only cashing in on half assed ports of VII VIII or IX.
1 thing I feel could be better is the overall graphics in the battles and world map. It seems like those are the exact same sprites from the PS1 version, and that could have been a lot better.
Need more people to talk about the lag issue. How is it compared to the JP version, and the original PS1. Still up in the air if I should buy a PSP for it, or just wait till CC comes out and get FFT later.
The battles seem pretty identical to PS1 in terms of the sprites and all.
Julian thinks the lag is horrible but I do not notice it so much yet.
By the way, it says I can be a WHM after I'm a level 2 chemist, but it won't give me the choice to switch to that job. Why is that?
notice a small slowdown whenever someone uses a graphical attack and whatnot, other than that theres nothing. and well, even that small slowdown doesnt bother me in the least. the sprites are the same but a little more polished from what i can tell, the graphics are really nice and crisp.
and i just bought the psp 2 days ago to play this game and a few others, but to me it's worth it.
i had the same problem because i forgot all the controls and commands from the PS1 version. on a character's status screen, press triangle to bring up the menu, select Job, and change. also you can go to Abilities and then Learn in order to spend JP. took me a bit cause i havent played this amazing fucking game in so long.Originally Posted by Po
lag is a nuisance, especially when it lags on things like Tackle or Choco Rush (mildly, but still there), but if you can get past it (i dont mind the dialogue so much at all, either, maybe i've been reading too much anglo saxon poetry for my lit class so this shit is a relief for me) then it's still the game you came to know and love.
except i HATE that Algus is renamed to Argath, but ill get used to that.
some of the commands being renamed is odd too, what happened to Guts? XD
yeah it's like Fundaments or something...still on eof my favorite games though, dont care. this is nostalgic as hell and i love it
What happened to the Hokuten and Nanten Knights? ; ;
Renamed to Knights of the Order or something.
To be honest, a really Japanese sounding group like that would seem really out of place with this European dialogue style.

Another thing I hate is how they removed the dialog box that sometimes shows up when you use special skills or spells![]()
yeah me too. although some of it was admittedly gay if you were like using a geomancer or something. like watching a bad mix of captain planet and sailor moon "earth and vines strangle my enemy!"
though if they were doing a re-haul of the whole goddamn script then yeah, 1) they could have improved the combat dialogue and 2) why was it taken out (lolpsp limitations?)
shameless double post but does anyone just HATE that second 'f' in Gaffgarion now? i cant take him seriously anymore, it's like a phonetic spelling of his name.
Yeah, i feel the same way. The slowdown hasn't deterred me from enjoying this so far. It is just a flood of nostalgia starting the second the opening screen/song started up. =POriginally Posted by Saga
Had such a great time with this game back in the day.
I have to say, the text is not bothering me. I mean i am just treating it as something "new" and living with it. I will say though... if i miss ONE thing... it is "Hokuten Knights" as I just always loved the name.
Again, the slowdown is down to what kind of limits you have as far as patience i suppose. I am not denying that there really is no excuse for it, it shouldn't be there... but it is, and i am dealing.
When do I gain control of Delita and Argath as opposed to them being guests?
And it also really caught me off guard when I lost my leveled up character since he died during a battle. I was under the assumption he comes back in your party even if he dies in battle. Or does he only get removed if he gets turned into a crystal or whatever?
Finally Blackcats put the US version up on their site and i'm stuck at work heh... guess i'll get to try it tonight.
On a different note, just beat Crisis Core last night and it's epic as hell. (especially the end)... definitely a must play if your psp can play it (any of dark alex's late m33 or OE firmwares..)
