If your Brave is decent, you'll do more damage unarmed than with most weapons, either single or dual wielded.

As for what to learn, save up your JP and get the two reaction abilities first, because they're among the best in the game. May as well get Shuriken too, since it's cheap, and it's an easy way to JP grind since the normal ones are only ~50 gil and don't do a ton of damage.

The more expensive one (used to be called Sunken State, but I don't remember what it is now) makes you Invisible if you take any damage.
Reflexes doubles all your evasion percentages. It's good all around, and is godly later on with top-level shields or Feather Mantle.

    Ninja
    Throw
    Mettle (Shoutftw!)
    Brawler
    First Strike
    Move+2!

Man, I had this by chapter 2(except shout ofc)...and made the game wayyyy too damn easy...

I remember never being able to get past Dorter1 on the PS1 version, so I put it away in my drawer for good...but I bought the PSP version, and everything seemed so much easier...

Just keep in mind First Strike doesn't work against monsters, so while awesome in story battles, it's not good in random ones.

Well you need Chemist 8 to get Mime, so it's not like the time was totally wasted...

Onion Knight job level is based on the number of jobs you have mastered (other than Squire and Chemist). Onion Knight gains 1 job level for every 2 jobs mastered, which means you need to master every job to get a level 8 Onion Knight. At job levels 1-7 their stats suck, but they can equip everything except the Onion armor. At job level 8 however, they gain the ability to equip Onion gear (which has awesome stats all around) and their base stats take a huge jump (basically at JL8 they have the best of every stat everywhere -- Ninja speed, Mime PA and MA, Monk HP, and Summoner MP, 4 move and jump, and like 30% C.Ev).

    Re: FFT

Best job/ability in ghe game for ramza (imo) is

    mnk
    gutz
    hamedo
    (don't remember)
move +3 (teleport or ignore height can be good depending on map)

important things are mnk for ultimate survivability and gutz for ultimate power and hamedo to pre-counter any melee attack against you and basically kill everyone without getting touched.

later in thegame when you'rs phys is already like 18 and you do accumulate a few times to like 25, you're doing 999 dmg every swing, even on the wave punch and earth slash. and, chakra is determined by phys as well, so one chakra and you're healed full.

Best Ramza, almost hands down, is:

    Guts
    Draw Out
    Blade Grasp
    Magic AttackUP
    Teleport

    Excalibur
    ---
    ---
    ---
    Genji Gauntlet(PS1)

Well they sure make you work for it though lol.

And I heard you need to do the multiplayer battles to get the best equip for DRK and Onion Knight.

And to the last 2 posters - What job ability in the PSP game is accumulate?

    Focus, I think

I'm a pretty big fan of making really bigass Lancers with:

    (main job ability goes here)
    Punch Art
    Damage Split
Defense UP / Magic Defense Up (depending on what you're fighting)
    Move+3

Wearing a robe of lords and any decent shield. Can take a shitload of hits without having to give up having a decent amount of Faith and can deal some pretty nasty single-target damage. I can't wait to do this on a DRK :D (which would also fix his main weakness of not being able to do shit against blade grasp)

Accumulate is called Focus now. PA+1.

All the Onion Knight equipment, as well as the Dark Knight-only swords do indeed come from multiplayer. The Dark Swords kinda suck though because they're all 2hand only.

Also, for defensive setups, nothing beats Escutcheon II + Abandon.

Draw Out, Concentrate, Holy Swordskills, Jump and, if your faith isn't 03, also Math Skill and Summoners (although that probably wouldn't be a problem outside of multiplayer)

Escutcheon II + Abandon actually would offer immunity to Math Skill, due to 100% magic evasion. Summons are also subject to magic evasion AFAIK, so it should provide immunity to those as well. The only way I know of to block Draw Out and Swordskills is with MP Switch. Incidentally, MP Switch + Move MP Up is another excellent combo.

Is it just me or can you not cancel any moves you make? I could have sworn you were able to do this before.

Took me awhile to figure out how to rotate the battle field. <_<

You can't, and as far as I remember you couldn't in the PSX version either.

Holy and all Summons aren't subject to magic evasion(except Lich, which ignores Magic Evasion but can still be completly dodged with low Faith) and the only thing that can block Jump attacks is Blade Grasp, that's why I mentioned them.

You can cut the damage from Swordskills by huge chunk (around 60% I think, I'm too lazy to do the math atm) with Protect+Defense UP and by the same amount from Draw Out with Shell + Magic Defense Up, and you can always use a defensive reaction ability to lower the damage even further. The MP Switch / Move MP-Up thing works great too. There isn't really anything in the game that can't be either completly blocked, countered or heavily resisted in some way or another. There's no way to stop everything at the same time though - that's kind of why I'm looking forward to the multiplayer modes :D

You might have been thinking of Tactics Advance.

fuck, now I want to go play tactics (PS1, even though I do want to play the PSP version... I just don't have a PSP.) again.

I can't decide what I want Ramza to be though.
