Thanks, that's my good angle. All the girls on myspace think I'm sexy. I just tell them that they can look, but not touch. Really makes 'em crazy for my defined features.Originally Posted by Uzor

Kanye is the only nigger I've ever given $16 to. A good c.d. I must say & one of my better sigs as I'm just learning Image Ready.Originally Posted by BRP

That's pretty funny coming from someone who apparently admires some bloke in a faggy pink shirt, and in your animation, at the end, it kinda looks like someone is gizzing all over his pic... wtf is up with that?Originally Posted by Epidemic
I like Daftpuk, and Kanye's single is played out. The radio did a good job of that. I previewed all of the songs before I bought the c.d. and they all sounded good. That's why I bought it.Originally Posted by spooky

And yes, I guess it is funny coming from someone who admires a music artist who shares the same views as himself. Christian, anti-war, and doesn't give a fuck what anyone thinks.
So here it is, hope it's still funny coming from me because Dancer is gay. It's another excuse for all of the men playing girl characters to flirt more realistically over the internet. Have fun chief
Money on Mime of Mimic idk what they would call it.
It could be the support job to end all support jobs if done how blue mage was done with spells.
I used my mimc in FF5 and FF6 as the ultimate DDs. Well, FF5 mimic as the ultimate mage, and FF6 mimic as the ultimate melee.Originally Posted by Ace-o-fire

True, but i dont know where eles it would fit in except for a support role.Originally Posted by Khamsin

I still dont see how you can come to the conclusion of DD from Sword Dance and Jitterbug (2/5 of the original jobs unique moves/dances). FFVs Dancer was only useful for damage with Sword Dance, otherwise only for Equip Ribbon.Originally Posted by Khamsin
The one from X-2 was clearly support, but you don't think thats canon, so w/e.
The one from VI (Mog) is ALSO a dancer - which incorporated Geomancy with dancing as a job. Ultimately, it was an unpredictable all-rounded job, which could deal damage, buff, debuff, heal and even summon animals that did 1-off attacks.
so lets do a cross comparison.
V: DD, debuff, self-heal (cos of drain attack)
VI: DD, buff, heal, debuff.
X-2: debuff: buff
Based on this comparison, you can see that Dancer does debuffing and buffing most often, i.e. to say it is a support job. Chances are, FFXI will follow suit.
Neither PUP or COR have really done anything to "prove" against following classic job trends.
COR = gambler = Setzer (VI), Cait Sith (VII), Selphie (VIII), Wakka (X), Lady Luck aka Gambler JP (X-2).
PUP = doll user = Reeve where Cait Sith is his puppet (VII), Lulu where she attacked with dolls (X), altho she was predominantly a BLM, the dolls are not seen as part of the BLM characteristics. The doll also executes all her non-magical moves for her. The only issue with PUP is that no previous FF with job-structure has had a job entirely based on dolls, which is why its said to be 'new' but conceptually its been in the FF series for a while.

Only 1/5 of its dances actually did anything you could remotely consider a debuff (charm). Which, in itself, isn't exactly your typical debuff in FFXI terms (slow, paralyze, blind, dia, etc). 2/5 dances caused direct damage. 1/5 dances drained MP. 1/5 dances did nothing. 0/5 of its dances would be useful for a FFXI debuffer... since none of them actually debuffed.Originally Posted by Spira

VI: DD, heal via Geomancer abilities (I don't recall any of them that actually buffed/debuffed)
X-2: debuff, buff via songs.

The reason I don't put much stock in Songstress or Mog is because those are so different from Dancer that I'm not positive they'd really be in the same category. Songstress is an entirely new job, or if anything, closer to Bard than Dancer. If the text for Mog's command wasn't "Dance", nobody would have even suggested he was a dancer. He used Geomancer moves, but he never used any Dancer moves. Given that FF6 came immediately after FF5, that's not a result of some gradual change of the job over time. They just simply ditched the actual Dancer job, and just went with Geomancer abilities but wrote "Dance" on his command menu. Unless they make the FFXI Dancer into a Geomancer, I'd say any comparison to FF6's Mog is moot. Also, FF6 didn't have a defined job system like FF5 did. Job boundaries in FF6 were very vague, and any attempts at assigning traditional FF jobs to the characters (e.g. Sabin as MNK, or Locke as THF) are conceptual at best. FF5, on the other hand, had a very defined job system with abilities, traits, and distinct classes.
Simply put, FFV Dancer is the actual Dancer (by definition). Mog is Mog. Songstress is Songstress. FFXI finally reintroduced Dancer. If you want to argue that Songstress = Dancer, I could just as easily argue that Songstress = Bard, and to be honest, Songstress abilities and effects do seem to match Bard a lot more than Dancer (which had never been a buffer before). Mog's approach to the whole "Geomancer that dances" thing was unique, and like I said, unless they pull that with the FFXI version, there's probably very little comparison to be made there.
Songstress is Dancer + Bard.
The only part of it which is Bard is the singing abilities..
I think we're seeing differences with the term debuff.. or maybe the term debuff isn't right. by debuff, basically i mean any move or ability that doesn't deal direct damage to HP - so that'd mean I'd be grouping DoT attacks in there too. In which case, maybe it was better for me to say 'support role moves'.
FFV:
Flirt - charm (actually more like confuse) = not direct dmg = debuff
Tango = confuse = not direct dmg = debuff
Jitterbug = HP drain. Can be considered direct damage.
Waltz = MP drain. not direct damage done = support role ability
Sword dance = no dispute. DD
that still makes 2/5. Using daggers to fight, well, every job in FFV can do that so thats a given.
FFVI:
You contradict yourself by saying they are Geomancer abilities because you also said this: Job boundaries in FF6 were very vague, and any attempts at assigning traditional FF jobs to the characters (e.g. Sabin as MNK, or Locke as THF) are conceptual at best.
So if you don't use any predisposed notion of jobs, or take it at face value, Mog is definitely a Dancer because his special tech is Dance.
Anyway, gonna point out the non-direct damage ones..
Sun Bath: Restore HP
Harvester: cures status effects
Kitty: Hastega
Snare: instant KO (not actual damage to HP)
Specter: confuse
Tapir: cures status effects
Poison Frog: poison
Snowball: 1/2s HP. is conditional direct damage, like Demi.
Ice Rabbit: heals.
FFX-2
Songstress was entirely capable of putting up buffs thru dance and not just song.
MP Mambo: 0 mp cost when dancing.
Magical Masque: nullify magic attacks (Magic Shield in ffxi terms) when dancing.
Carnival Cancan: Doubles MAX HP when dancing
Jitterbug: Hastega when dancing
Also, if we do accept Songstress into the trend, then the fact that songstress does not even have the command "Attack" should tell you the role which such a job is geared towards.
One of the points im making is that if you are to reasonably exclude BOTH X-2 and VI Dancers then you have no basis for making a trend. You cant determine a trend from 1 past example. You need at least 2.
this thread is so fucking stupid
Idk Rocl, I think as long as there is that crab picture of Ryko's, it will always be a trifecta of fail.
I agree, this thread is stupid, tons of speculation with no real basis = waste of time.

Stupid, desperate men who need to get out more.
I'd basically like to know what part of Songstress and Mog were the Dancer part. Are you simply saying Songstress was a Dancer because she wiggled her butt and did a little jig while singing? Despite the name, just because the animation shows a person dancing doesn't make it a Dancer (FF job). Where was Sword Dance? Where's the HP/MP drains? Sure, she danced. She wiggle her butt, and she moved her feet. But what part of her abilities was the Dancer part? Same for Mog. Aside from the command being labelled "Dance", what part of his abilities was the Dancer part? What did he actually do that was a signature Dancer ability, and not a Geomancer ability?Originally Posted by Spira
Here's a nice little exercise: If you were to make a list of each ability (e.g. Sun Bath, Carnival Cancan, etc.) of Songstress and Mog and put each into Bard, Geomancer, and Dancer categories based on the kind of ability (not its animation/name), how big would each list be?
There seems to be a miscommunication about what we each consider to be the defining quality of the Dancer job. I say the Dancer job is defined by its signature moves and playstyle, and others say all it takes is that the character does a little dance animation regardless of whatever kind of ability it uses. To me, a Songstress that just happens to have a dancing animation while singing despite no other similarities to Dancer job doesn't quite cut it. At least Bard had a precedent as a buffer, and in fact, the FFV Bard just kept singing for the duration of the fight once you got him going. It was "channelled", so to speak, just like the Songstress in FFX-2. Plus the FFV Bard had party buffs and enemy debuffs. It wouldn't be a stretch to compare Songstress to the FFV Bard... and that's without using "Songstress is part Bard because she does a singing animation!" as the argument. But how do you compare Songstress to Dancer? There's no argument for it other than the dancing animation.
I mean, hell, if they made PUP wiggle its butt and dance around while it commanded its automaton, I bet you people would be calling it a Dancer hybrid, too, for no other reason than that.
Oh god I hope Dancer is the new tank so everyone is wrong
from gameplay point of view :
white magic = buff/debuff, with mp, single target, can be silenced, can be aggroed
bard songs = buff/debuff, no mp, Area/single target, can be silenced, no aggro
corsair rolls = buff only, no mp, Area target, can't be silenced, no aggro, random effect.
Dancer seems more on the "no mp" side, so this could lead to
dances = debuff only, no mp, Area/single target
+ some average DD features and you have a working new hybrid, or
+ some self working debuffs (like "mob has 50% chances hitting you while dancing) and here's a new tank.
Couldn't Corsairs get Job Ability aggro using Phantom Roll? Or was this tested and disproven? >_>
