Well, they said it'd require finesse...perhaps you'll have a move list from which you string moves together to form different dances. With different moves or longer combos being possible with higher level. Maybe with variable results based on timing.

    Okay according to SE:

    -Thewy: Muscular (read: strong)
    -Forbidden Magicks: Mage
    -Rivaling Sorcerors: Rivaling BLMs
-Added to Front lines: Front line Job

Judging by that Dancer is not a Buffer... i mean why use the word Thewy? lol
From what SE stated there i beileve Dancer will be DD(that buffs and Debuffs, DD RDM?) regardless of what it did in Past FFs (remember guys this is FFXI, its not necessarily the same as the rest of the FFs)

Okay... it obviously has a High skill in Daggers (because it uses Eviceration in the trailer) They obviously Buff themselves and debuff enemies. now... Dancer might not actually Dance all the time in Battle but have Swift moves and have short Dance spells(like bard)

IMO we should not base Dancer Speculation on FFV or FFT... cuz we have a WHOLE paragraph of information that contradicts what a lot of you guys said...

that said Dancer will be a DD that Buffs Itself (A la RDM w/ enspells, DRK w/ Souleater, MNK w/ Boost etc.) and debuffs mobs (RDM also , BRD, DRK etc.)

Seems a lot like a NIN:
    Thewy/frontline: Melee (like NIN)
Forbidden magicks upon themselves: Self-support, like Tonko and Utsusemi (possibly a tank?!)
Forbidden magicks upon their enemies: The rest of ninjutsu is offensive (damaging and enfeebling)

I'd be surprised if a support job was the first announced, since I think tanks and healers are higher in demand (not for parties, but I think I've seen more people asking for these to be added). Dancer: Tank and Medic (Chemist): Healer?

I think you're possibly misreading the "front lines" thing. I think the text is saying that they were additions to armies on the front line, not necessarily that the dancers themselves were frontline fighters. Be like saying that extra medical personnel were sent to troops fighting on the front lines. As opposed to those on guard duty or in training, etc.

It does seem likely that they will be meleeing though.

Yeah i was thinking bout that too... but i dunno... they way they worded it and the Trailer makes it seem like they are, in fact, a Front Line Job. I mean i doubt they Would say WHM was a Common additions to the Front line because well... (correct me if im wrong) medics, IRL, dont usually go to the front lines they are kind of in the back (but not too far lol)

i tend to agree with this it seems that it meant that they are there to supplement the front line jobs not be one

Well, they show most jobs meleeing in their promo stuff. As cliche as it is, look at their description of RDM as compared to how the job actually is generally played. Or is shown in trailers.

What I mean with the medic line is that medics or WHMs or whatever would be assisting combatants. Zoom out a bit with what "front lines" means. If you're saying there's a war going on, the front lines are not just necessarily talking about people actually fighting at that very moment. They could be referring to people in the general area where fighting is going on. It's a relative term.

I took that line to be less of an indication that Dancer would be meleeing and such, and more of a clarification saying that they were not simply entertainers. They're not just a prevalent form of entertainment for weary soldiers, they're out there as part of the battle too.

    Re: Dancer

Its also entirely possible that all the dances are no spell lists but a bunch of JA (just like Phantom Roll)

all speculations and some idea-work here:
I'd think it might be rather interesting if Dancers had to string different dance JAs together to create new effect.. kinda like 'mixing' for a dance effect. This could be done similar to how "double-up" takes effect for Phantom Rolls, except that you can follow up with any dance in the window period. It'd be kinda fun to like string dances together and would emphasize the dance notion of the job..

At the same time, if they just gave 4 animation, we could end up with potentially 256 different effects from stringing the dances in different orders.. (if it chains up to 4 times). That way, they can avoid ps2 limitations of too many different animations and yet keep a good number of dances available (6 dances isn't too many either cos theres like so many animations used for NPCs in cutscenes. Think of it as 6 JAs.) Then again, the Dancer job has never ever played like this.. so this is pure made-up shit right now.. The execution of the job remains a mystery..

but if i were to give an example of what I'm trying to say may be a way that the job works..

    Jitterbug - self (haste) -> Jitterbug (hastega) -> Waltz () -> Tango (attack up-ga) -> Waltz (regain effect-ga)
Waltz - self (Triple Attack up) -> Waltz (Triple Attack up-ga) -> Waltz (adds enspell effect for every 3rd hit you do) -> Waltz (no effect. Waltz is a 3 step dance ;p)
Salsa - mob (stun) -> Tango (add affinity: can be intimidated by everyone) -> Tango (terrorize) -> Waltz (tp-degenerate)

lol... just an idea.. I hope the job will be more interesting than the chore that BRD is...

so.... basically we wont be getting anymore info till Osaka or Fan Festival?
I hope SE updates the main site more often (at least with areas and Mobs )

    Re: Dancer

next job reveal on 11/3? Thats Altana-festival @ Osaka..
then final job at fan festival in mid Nov? that seems kinda late.. even PUP was released about 1 month before ToA... but thats cos fan fest came abit earlier than the actual expansion release..

    the suspense sucks...

    Re: Dancer

hehe i think they may have hinted on the jobs already... (just a crazy notion) I posted this in the TGS preview thread but it seems to be dead so i'll post it here xD

In the E3 trailer, near the end it shows 4 jobs:

    DRK SMN BLU PLD

What i believe is that they are hinting at the news jobs by showing us this... why would i think of something so crazy?
well... look at the SMN... it has a scythe... (i know im thinkin way too much into this xD) So wat i was thinkin was that SE will add a DD, Pet job that uses scythe?, Melee Mage and a Tank...

Call me crazy but its unusual to show a job with a weird weapon (or has it been done before? lol)
and why those 4 jobs? xD also i think Dancer may be the Melee Mage

BRD gets access to Evisceration as well, but I wouldn't suggest using them as DD. To unlock the quest, you only need C+ skill in a weapon, which isn't great either.

The previous statement about S-E showing Dancer melee for the sake of showing them melee is probably correct. It's meant to provide an "action shot" for a demo vid.

^Damn you for making me have to go rewatch all those vids.

The last one is a WAR btw cos it used a WAR JA.. i think Aggressor..

anyway.. SE has done it before.. like with the people in AF running thru what was advertised as Promyvion (which we know to be level capped)
