Halo 3

I'm not saying Halo III needed to be as robust of a single player as those, but they could have made it as good as, say, goldeneye.

Have you played and beat Halo 3 to give such a critique?

Obviously not...but nobody is really talking up the single player at all. It's safe to assume that if people who are completely immersed in hype say that the single player is bland, well, it probably is.

Well everyone that has played and beat it has greatly enjoyed it, I mean it averaged 95 on reviews. You can go through the 450 page thread on gaf and like everyone seems to love it. So I'm sure there's a great single player game there.

It hasn't drawn me in yet, I just ran about beating up my allies then popped in Eternal Sonata but I'm sure it'll be great when more friends get it so I can coop.

the online coop was done terribly, me and a friend that live 5 minutes away from eachother(driving) were getting terrible framerates, and we are both on really fast connections..

No, I was just giving an example of a game from 9 years ago.

What I'm saying is that the reviews might be tainted by fear of public backlash (OMG A 9 SCORE WTF) and the fact that they HAD to rush the reviews to get them out the door and the fact that they haven't even had a chance to test the multiplayer in real circumstances means that the reviews are skewed.

And that comment makes it a poor single player game? If it got like a 9.5 would that make you happy? Even Bioshock (all games really) has it's repetitious moments and problems but what matters in the end is how fun the game was.

So I just got my copy home and started playing coop with the roommate and the cutscenes are in the full 16:10 ratio but the gameplay isn't. Anyone else having this issue? I'm a 46" LCD TV and this is the first game to do this. So yes I have all my settings correct for the 360 and this TV.

loving a game doesnt make it a 10, ive loved some 6's and 7's. 10 means its a damn near perfectly made game lacking things that draw away from the fun factor of the game. as with everything halo it gets upped because of hype, as many of the sales are from it as well.

I'm not sure it's backscratching, I think it's just that game reviewers tend to be less impartial and pragmatic than they should be along with gaming fans being really FUCKING ANNOYING when a reviewer scores his favorite game too low. It's funny, nobody cares about what reviewers say

Anyways, that comment was responding to a specific other comment. I was counterbalancing stupidness spewed from the keyboard of Zalius. I spoke with my info based on reviews and what I've heard... that the single player is pretty, has a good story and good music, but not very good gameplay.

It's good. Just because people are drooling over mulitplayer doesn't mean the campaign sucks.
