    VPN / Network Access Trouble

If anyone can help me fix this you'll be my hero for the day.

I work remotely, and use a VPN connection to access my office network. Since DNS service doesn't work over my VPN connection (no clue why), I've modified my hosts file so that I can still use the network names that I'm used to. My problem is this: after I made this change, my user name and password is no longer accepted for Windows file sharing on other computers on the network.

The hosts file thing may be unrelated, it's totally possible that I inadvertently changed my network settings. I've recently used my work computer to access files from a locally networked PC without any user/pass requirements, so maybe Windows decided to automatically change a few settings?

    Beats me.

DNS is rarely set up properly through VPN, it's not your fault, but your network admin's. Either way, that shouldn't affect your issue here.

Are you logging into a domain through the vpn? That could be an issue, use Domain_Name\User_Name instead of just your user name.

How would I go about logging into a domain through the VPN? I think you're pointing me in the right direction here, the exact text of the error is as follows:

"A domain controller cannot be found to verify that user name"

I'll keep looking and post back if I fix it. Any more help would be great.
