Pointing a gun at someone is definitely potential deadly force. The key is the word potential. Look it up if you don't know what it means.

You are I's definition of potential in this case is 2 different things. Technically there was no chance of her dying from said guns until a bullet was fired. But I do understand what you mean.

Like I said, no bullet fired, no chance of her dying from said bullets/gun.

Guy saying its a good thing she listened to commands =/= her actually being in grave danger.

But you really have zero reason to question anyone in this thread, your stupidity has been brought out too many times.

Skurlover, I agree with your general point of view in this matter, but just to provide you with the other side of this new definition of the word "potential" debate, a bomb, by your definition isn't a potential deadly force if it hasn't gone off. The difference between the "bomb" (which we know isn't a bomb) and pointing a gun at someone is the perceived potential threat, but the idea is the same - no bomb exploding, no chance of anyone dying. You might need to reexamine your definition of potential.

Actually, a concealed bomb (disguised as a palm pilot/cell phone/whatever) poses a lot larger threat than an unconcealed bomb strapped to someone's chest, because it's pretty fucking likely someone's going to notice the unconcealed bomb and do something about it.

The fact is, before the screening area, you have no fucking clue what people are carrying. Stopping someone with potentially deadly force because they "have a suspicious device strapped to their chest" serves no real purpose, because the people with real malicious intent could just as well conceal it.

The gain from this "preventative policy" is nil, at the cost of occasionally a misunderstanding will lead to deadly consequences.

Zero benefit, nonzero cost. That makes it a stupid policy.
I see your point aurik, I just disagree with you. I fly all the time, and I'd rather law enforcement take care of any perceived potential threat at any juncture in the airline process than let something slip by just because it's unconcealed and may or may not be less dangerous. And if someone's carrying a concealed bomb, they're most likely trying to get it through security to get on a plane or in one of the gates, in which case security is going to catch them at the security checkpoint.

Ninja edit: I also don't think you can slap a cost-benefit ratio on the lives of thousands and thousands of people. The benefit of this situation, if you can see it this way, is that we at least know the TSA is on top of things, however at times misguided they may be.

So, now that it's clearly been decided that it isn't a "fake bomb", should she still be arrested and charged with a crime?

I know, I was using the slipping by example in response to you saying how a concealed bomb is more of a threat. My point was that the fact they caught this girl before the security checkpoint is irrelevant. Someone with a concealed bomb (that would be much harder to track) would likely be trying to slip it past security and onto a plane, getting caught in the process. If you're going to flaunt any strange or foreign object around an airport, just be prepared for the consequences. That's all.

Is that really a motherboard? It looks barely big enough to be a graphics card. Am I the only one who noticed this, or am I just the only one who still thinks of ATX as being the normal size.

Caught this girl...wearing electronic fashion? Well it's a relief she didn't get away with it.

If you're going to flaunt any strange object around an airport, you should be prepared for scrutiny; getting arrested because the "authorities" overreacted is beyond dumb.

Exactly. There's nothing wrong with stopping her and saying "hey wtf is that shit on your shirt". Doing so with submachine guns is overkill and begging for an accident to happen. Arresting her and holding her after it's clear it isn't a bomb is a violation of her civil rights.

The prosecutor asked for a $5,000 bail lol.

Look at it this way: the real reason she's arrested is because she caused a scene. If someone wrote "I R TERRIST" on the back of their shirt, they'd probably get arrested too. And it would end up on 4chan and the internets would get some lulz.

    edited for precision

She didn't make a scene. The responding officers made the scene.

"Electronic fashion," art, self expression, whatever you want to call it. In today's society, there's an incredibly heightened sense of security - you can't go around in airports wearing suspicious electronic perephenalia around your neck on a whim. Do you advocate Khamsin's idea of wearing a giant clock around your neck that counts backwards from ten minutes?

And if she didn't have any "electronic fashion" draped around her neck in the first place, there wouldn't be a scene to create. There are other places to showcase "fashion" like that. An airport is not the place to do it. Period.

I stand by my point you should be prepared for the consequences, not scrutiny. Again, in today's world, you can't pull something like that and assume nothing's going to happen to you. I used the term "caught her" loosely, sorry.
