I saw the cat too. At first glance I thought it was an automaton but after replaying it it does look like Cait Sith.

Less likely, but it could also be a variant of the Gimme Cat from FF9.

Oh, and btw, it seems pretty obvious from the official pages screenshots that we will use Atomos as a portal to the past. If you look at the screens of the crazy looking area with the reddish sky, you can clearly see a blue portal that looks very much like a mouth of Atomos. Doesn't seem very likely that SMN will get -the- Atomos, but since summons are just an incarnation of the avatars' power, maybe they will give them a mini-Atomos manifest.
