I knew about the owl thing because there's one right in the fucking middle of the aegis cutscene.

Tu'lia isn't the same architecture as Al'Taieu, it's just the same color. -_-
Tu'Lia/Delkfutt/Fei'Yin & Phomiuna/Sacrarium/Bostaunieux/Garlaige on the other hand...
However, things like that are intentional as a sort of marker. You KNOW a San d'Orian built this, etc. Tavnazia and Garlaige were under San Dan's control, it's just how it goes.
I spent 15 minutes in rolanberry searching the grass after reading this, I didn't see any friggin grasshoppers. ;[
I saw grasshopper thing a few weeks ago, while randomly camping Simurgh lol.
I was 2boxing and had the 2box standing in this one spot, kind of near the entrance to Simurgh, and I could see part of the 2box'd screen while on my main character, and I saw some weird bug thing jumping on the 2box'd character, and I was like... whoa holy shit, i've camped simurgh so many freaking times and never saw this chigoe looking thing before lol
Long ago, when the game was first released for the PS 2, I remember riding a choco near the first slope just outside of South Gustarberg (sp). And I got a message in the chatbox something about the chocobo crushing a cricket (or some other critter, don't remember) with its feet. I don't know if it's common since I only saw it that one time for the 2 years I played. Maybe some choco diggers can shed some light into that mistery? ;o
Might be a better one out there, but a quick youtube search yielded this lufaise meadows vid of the wyvern:

Hah, so somebody else has seen the creepy ducks. Damnable things didn't appear when I had a GM with me, probably isn't every day that they have to answer a call stating "The ducks in Lufaise Meadows are swimming backwards."Originally Posted by Mrrill

The visuals for the ocean in the areas Port Bastok, Selbina and Mhaura are amazing and so realistic
They probably didn't have space for more than one animation (PS2 Limitation, lulz).Originally Posted by Frenzy

Check out the color of the insense/fireplace smoke in your Aht Urghan moghouse. Most people I know hadn't noticed that.

nicely translated article...
I too am a huge fan of the rich environments that make FFXIs world. Its actually alot better than even FFXII imo, which was less rich and had far less quirks in the areas..
I've noticed the ducks and owls but never the spiders and grasshoppers..
The smoke in Aht Urhgan rooms are also very nice touches..
Im quite a fan of the mist in the tunnels leading to the top of Uleguerand Range.. and I've ever gone on sightseeing trips around Vana'Diel just to look at the scenery...
Bibiki Bay (Purgo Isle) is one of my fave spots cos I love the clear shallow waters along south end of the beach...
I'm sure everyone has noticed this too, but the floating ghosts of children in Gusgen freak me out.. and especially when it so happens you run by them when the siren sounds.
I thought it was so cool when I noticed each of the stars at the compass points were different colors. I remembered reading something about the stars and constellations in the Tribune, but hadn't thought too much about it until then.Originally Posted by theo
The view is great in Western Altepa Desert if anyone cares to see. I saw them right outside of Rabao but they should be visible inside, too.

Sarcasm aside, that really is the truth. If you know anything about computer graphics you would know that realistic water takes an insane amount of power that simply wasn't feasible when PS2 was top of the market hardware.Originally Posted by Lexius
The theme here seems to be very similar to the approach that Retro took to Metriod Prime 3. They knew that they were dealing with a system that didn't pack a whole lot of horsepower, but they made up for it with stunning and creative visual designs.
I think he was referring to the fact the water in those zones look completely crap compared to some of the stuff we've seen in other zones.Originally Posted by theo

I mean, jeez, the water in Selbina was just one flat colour last I checked.
Go out into the water in valkurm some time, walk way out to the edge of the sea floor, its pretty weird.
There is a couple layers of fish floating around, an under layer, and the overlayer with the waves.
Also, standing on top of the highest dunes in Altep at night is a cool view.
Standing at Seiryu's island looking over Tu'lia as the Sun comes up is still the best though.
Wow, Awesome find. I knew of the ducks, Wyrm and the moon colors, but I had no idea of the grasshoppers, owls and spiders? I'll definitely be paying more attention in the future. Thanks for sharing the interview Elmer.
I've seen some grashoppers in rolandberry and Konschtat highlands. They seem to always appear at the same spot at given moment of the day. For instance you can see some in rolanberry @ E10 near the lake with ochus. They appear at around noon.Originally Posted by Minions
In Konschtat at 11h30 you can see some grashoppers @ I5 and after 13H30 sometimes you see some blue butterflies. I noticed them while chocobo digging there. Very surprising.
