To recant slightly, I'm currently leveling Woodworking on my wife's account. Why? She was already at level 61 when I picked up it, and it seems like such a waste to leave there. She abandoned the craft back when RMT pretty much butchered the market for arrows and shihei.

I would like to pretend that the reason I am leveling her WW is because I want to make my own Cursed Togi -1, but truthfully, I want her to have her own means of making gil so she stops stealing from my gardening mules. :D

I started smithing when I was mining but stopped at like 24ish when it was LOL too expensive...

Then I decided upon cooking which I took to 94 , it was quite profitable until it got flooded (13 mules + cooking made nice money). Back then there was like no one crafting..hell I used to NPC Pet Food delta for 50k/hour >.> LOL while my mules sold stuff.

Once cooking started declining went back to smithing since I could afford it, made an ass load of gil on it when I was 1 of 3 100 smiths for a very long time...

I also have a 2nd account with WWing at 80ish cause I fished on it and repair lu shangs is 80ish..I might finish this.

I have a 3rd account with 99 cloth and 100 fishing, just cause it was already leveled.

I did goldsmithing cause I wanted to be able to make/sign my own rings and shiny stuff for my mnk and then once my brother did ww to 100 to make beads and ended up at 95+ before i stopped playing.

Wish I did another craft cause there was 10's of millions of gil spenty levling it legit only to have people who PL'd with purchased gil in the huge inflation completely ruin it

also wish i didn't something different onmy main and done gold on a mule.

Something I didn't consider, on my main char do something that I can actually do on the fly like cloth or leather from farming. Goldsmithing can be done entirely in the towns without leaving and mobility doesn't help really at all as mining is to inconsistant.

Looking back I would've rather done clothcraft since RDM became my ultimate main job and i woulda rather signed that gear than a few rings.

I did leathercraft mainly because I wanted to sign gear for myself Dusk Gloves +1 mostly (0/130+ on them atm lawl) which are also way too expensive to buy and hard to find if you don't craft them yourself. If you're after money I'd say go with cloth, smithing, or gold. If you're after signing gear for yourself then it probably depends on what jobs you have.

I started goldsmithing when you could make millions upon millions very easily, but every time I got to a milestone tier the millions upon millions you would make dropped to thousands. Kept pushing, probably made slightly more money than I've lost; I get lucky on HQ2, HQ3 on stones some days I think 2/5 HQ3 on black rocks with 1/5 HQ2 is my record for luck/profit... Probably should have stopped at 60 but now that I'm 84.3 I don't see any reason to stop so I guess I'll keep cutting beads and praying Woodworkers keep coming to me...

Pray hard. I did the whole bead cutting stage without working with a single woodworker -- AH sales only. I was ready to throw myself out a window by the end of that stage.

Ive got 1 I work with directly, and 3+ WW 100 that know I can cut beads. If that isn't enough Ive got a mule that I keep loaded with beads in Rolanberry Fields. went from 80-84.3 in I believe 2 week, and sold most of the beads in 3 weeks, mule is on 24/7 though... I really wanted to level him as well.

Started as woodworking cuz I was a MNK and wanted to make my own cursed gear. Got to 70 a short while after the RNG nerf when ammo prices plummeted, and decided there wasn't much profit left in it anymore. Switched to smithing since I had leveled that a fair deal for the final stages of WW, and have that at 91 now.

Goldsmithing because I didn't realize that every expansion would completely obsolete possibly multiple different gear slots I could accomodate.

Doing bonecraft on a mule because I want to sign a weskit for myself and a friend. (skilled up on an HQ Acheron shield last night! whaaaa!)

Leathercraft for dusk +1 / sniper's +1 for myself, and then after ToAU cerb +1 for myself.

Amusing that I've yet to craft any of them (I'd have sniper's +1 but I can't find enough to synth in a large batch and 1 by 1 im 0/17 in a row about - same token I only HQ ever in large batches it - 2 / 9 nomad +1 yesterday, same tier as sniper lol)

Leveling fishing on wife's character while she's asleep / apathetic to FFXI, she has cooking, so will be a nice alternative to leveling a mule craft as we can both make gil from it also.

I leveled Leathercrafting b/c at the time there were plenty of synths that simply didn't exist. The one synth I knew I wanted to make was Dusk Gloves +1. Most believed, at the time I was leveling, there were none in existence. If there were, they were hiding them . The rest, you all know. HQd my first one while skilling up on it. And Ive made 5-6 more since.

Naturally, its my synth because I saw it as the best way to make gil when I had my heart set on my sword. ...and now its funded two relics.

I started off doing cooking cos I wanted to make juices for my WHM. Once I worked out that yag drinks were 60, decided not to take that further. Then (man, there is some twisted logic here) I fell in love with the opaline set and decided that the only way I was gonna get my hands on it was if I made it...

No, I don't really know what I was thinking way back then either. For some reason it became the thing I wanted to make. I owned a full set before I could even make the corsage. I kinda naively assumed that cos Cooking was so easy, Cloth couldn't be that bad and that I could farm my synth mats. But then I did some research and realised from 50 it was going to get pretty rough but by then was sold on the idea of signing my own mage gear. Levelled leather and bone to 40 along with Cloth at first, and they all helped each other.

Now, I just level it when I feel like it. Get a few skillups up here and there, stash ingredients away and do my GP steadily. 50k GP to go and my +3 is done.

I chose to do Bonecraft because, way back then when I decided to make it my main craft, it seemed like no one was doing it. There wasn't even a guide for it on Alla yet, so it seemed like a good idea. But then a million bonecrafters power-leveled past me and got rich while I was still sitting at 85 or something and my initial reason for choosing it was a wash

I still finished leveling it though and I think it's a pretty good craft.

I started out on goldsmithing because hey, what does a complete noob to online games in bastok do? Level (or think they can level) Goldsmithing of course!

By about level 40 I realized more accurately what it was going to take, and by then the CoP rings were released. At that point I basically said I'll get my glasses then stop, and farm for a living.

Well, fast forward a year+, and lo and behold I have a nice aquarian abjuration: hands in my moghouse. I start to inquire with the CC'ers on my server as to what they would charge for a pair of cursed mitts-1. Best offer I got was "you provide the mats and then tip 1 million gil (honestly, not that bad of an offer). This was just after SE removed Siren Hairs from SSG, so I couldn't even solo compete with RMT for claims in trying to farm my own. So I figured if I was gonna spend that kind of money to get cursed mitts-1, why not level up Clothcraft instead?

I'm enjoying it greatly, although I have been on hold since I hit 92.1+1. Time to take leathercraft up to complete that subjob (only level 11.3 on LC atm) and make myself plenty of mocassins for the dance shoes push. Then, once I nail that down, its time to buy siren hairs.

I honestly don't care if I never craft again after I can hit a pair of cursed mitts-1. But while I'll never own a relic or do other things in this game, having z.mitts+1 for me would be my crowning financial accomplishment. Its the little things to those of us who joined the game later and play for limited bursts of time, and I've found quite a niche I can fill and enjoy while basically just chatting.

If anything, notice a trend in these posts- those who are the most successful and happy in their craft seem to have picked a craft for a personal synth, not just "which one makes me the most gil?" Hence part of the reason I stopped GS'ing and picked up Clothcraft.

If you cant make money from cooking then you are doing it wrong. Sure you arent going to make a stack of gil with a lucky HQ but there are plenty of options for a steady income, just need to put the time in.
