Re: Your craft and why it's your craft.

I just finished Woodworking 100 this morning. I'd started woodworking, because I wanted my own signed furniture-- I know, there's no Epeen in having a signed moghouse as no one else can see it, but hey. I leveled the craft for me, not for them.

I'm working on Leathercraft on a mule, because I'm main Thief, and saw a near 100% farmable path.

I love crafting in general; I'm thinking of taking smithing up on a mule, as well.

Re: Your craft and why it's your craft.

started off cooking on main, got that to 60 and decided it sucked, started chocobo digging and discovered I got a ton of crap that I couldn't fit on AH, and that finished products would be better, so started leveling goldsmithing to break down ores, smithing on mule and wifes character to do the same, woodworking on another mule, and alchemy on another mule, and bonecraft on another mule... I'll cycle back and forth through which mule I actively level stuff on for shits and giggles. And my wife took up clothcraft because she likes to sew IRL, she had 60+ CC before she had a subjob.

    Main 69GS, 97 fishing, 53 alchemy, 38 smithing, 60 cooking A10 chocobo digging
    wife 99CC 60 fishing, 60 smithing, 58 goldsmithing, 60 leathercraft
    mule 70WW
    mule 86 bonecraft
    mule 96 cooking
    mule 84 alchemy
    and 0 inventory space.

Did goldsmithing because, back when I first started playing, 100 goldsmithing was thought to be impossible and cost way too much money. Sounded like a good challenge, so I did it.

My first job to 75 was RDM, and at the time, I figured I'd sign myself as much gear as possible... thus I leveled CC.

I wanted to make a Genie Weskit and other HQ pieces. So I sat down and leveled bonecraft for 3 months. Bonecraft 100

Once cooking started declining went back to smithing since I could afford it, made an ass load of gil on it when I was 1 of 3 100 smiths for a very long time...

I also have a 2nd account with WWing at 80ish cause I fished on it and repair lu shangs is 80ish..I might finish this.

I have a 3rd account with 99 cloth and 100 fishing, just cause it was already leveled.

Thats my crafting story/choices very briefly
This guy right here gave me a motivation speech at Port Jueno AH one day. Told me something like Crafting is the way to go! Then the bastard put on all his +1 gear and showed off.

Then Sidy boy said "Trade me". He gave me 500k to start crafting. This was when 500k was like... Holy shit I gotz 500k! So I stuck my finger up my butt and said hey alchemy sounds good.

Point of the story... I screwed myself twice

Re: Your craft and why it's your craft.

I started on PC @ PS2 release time. I started leather 1-2 weeks in cause it was cheap. I looked at Amemet Mantles at the time, and skins sold for like 250k, NQ was break even, and HQ was 4x the profit. Took me about 2 months, but got to 51ish. I stopped cause I got poor and couldn't afford raptor skins. Decided to keep exping.

I took it up again some months or a year later. But leveling 51+ with 1 Casino spammer leveing, 1 "I sold all my Dynamis funded currency for my upgrade" leveler. and 1 "All LS bank money backing me" leveler all leveling at the same time, I kinda got beat out in the market once I hit 100. Have made some HQs and such, but nothing huge for profit. Have my personal Dusk Gloves+1 but don't intend to sell.

I still regret stopping for that yearish time.

Alchemy, because at the time it was very profitable.

Then CoP nerfed ranger, alot of profit dissapeared.

ToaU looked very promising for us, as they didn't stop talking about alchemy, and corsairs were meant to be spamming those cards, and then SE puts them on a vendor that sells them dirt cheap, and corsairs use cards only occasionally than with every buff, so there's little to no demand for it.

Did cooking on main, 102. Was actually handy during CoP I made hundreds of yag drinks for my group. Also, back in the day, sushi funded my nobles tunic.

Then I leveled cloth on my mule, and now I have a signed A coat. Will do GS on another mule next simply to sport rings signed by "Queenofjeuno".

I fish, because I'm fucking lazy(if fishing is even considered a "craft). No need to look up recipes, or check city AHs, mule materials, or camp AH, etc. you pretty much just get a rod, bait(lure preferably for even more laziness+), and sit there for a few hrs. It's pretty fun and relaxing. Not to mention if you ever decide to lvl another craft, fishing doesn't mess up the 40points over 60 cap, and its a decent way to fund other crafts also.

Re: Your craft and why it's your craft.

Every craft is my craft, because I want a moghouse full of guild furniture.

But if someone asks me what I am, I reply that I'm a Fisherman. Why? Because it's relaxing, almost meditative.

Re: Your craft and why it's your craft.

I did cooking on my main character and have 80+ alchemy on my second character. I chose cooking because I thought, "hey, eventually everyone will max out on gear and the market dies out, cooking items get used and you have to keep buying more". It really doesn't provide any money making unless you go out and farm all your ingredients. =/

Now I wish I had done ww cause we don't have one in the LS and we always need stuff synthed. ><

Re: Your craft and why it's your craft.

I started out as a cook to make my own food. Back when meat mithkabobs were what everyone ate (first person I saw ingame when I was a wee noob gave me mithkabobs to help me level). Made money in insect paste when everyone wanted lushangs, so thats what most fisherman fished with. Leveled alchemy to 58 on my main to HQ oils/powders, because they used to be good money. One of my friends quit before CoP and I shared his account for a long time, leveled fishing to 98 and alchemy to 90 between the two of us so he could be our money maker.

Made a fortune in sushi when it first came out (had 2 fishermen selling me fish for low cost). With that, I decided to level cloth so I could sign my WHM gear, and gold, because it seemed like that would make gil on my server, and I used to try to garden for ores, and thought it was a ripoff for the beads to be 100k more than the ores. Leveled smithing because I was bored and hadn't yet spent all my money on relic. Made most of my gil on sushi, alchemy, and fishing to fund gold and cloth, made money for my relic from getting hella lucky on desynthing subligar when manteels were 60million.

Now, I rarely cook (100 cook), make most of my money from a few cloth, gold, smithing synths that I sell on mules no one knows about (100 in each). Its not as easy as it used to be to make gil, but its certainly not as hard as people think. It helps on some synths to have multiple crafts at 100, with subcrafts leveled, thats where I make most of my gil now.

Fishing is obviously the best craft, no one levels it and no one likes it, thus making it the best.
