Re: Your craft and why it's your craft.

Started off in smithing due to my moving my mog house inside gusgen to help me earn my stave set for blm (2005ish). Enjoyed the mining, but couldnt stand leveling smithing, and in time quit in frustration of pouring money into a pit with little return. (I was/am a broke hume)

Flash foward a year(?) later, a friend is talking about how awesome crafting is.. I'm like ya ya w/e crafting blows11oneeleven1! etc. But after awhile his enthuisham started to rub off on me, so being the helpful nub that I like to think I am, I started researching what craft would best suit my interests.

After alot of reading and talking to other higher level crafters, I decided upon leveling alchemy, due to people always complaining how expensive oils and powders were and wanting to help my friends by being an outlet for cheaper meds, that and.. making powders and potions somehow appeals to me, I love the image of a mad blm working in his lair creating elixers of doom.

After awhile, I actully started to enjoy leveling my craft, no longer seeing it as a chore or something that was just "too hard". I enjoyed researching markets, and making new things. In time crafting became my fav activity in the game, even to the point where I cant stand the xp grind or most of endgame. (And still is, even though there are some days its downright depressing to log in and check the ah)

I find it relaxing, and miss that I almost have run out of crafts to level (Most subs capped for the hell of it) since I have never had a mule, nor do I intend to, leveling another 100 craft, aside from fishing, is out of the question.

Do I regret leveling alchemy? At times, and I sure as hell wouldn't recommend it to a friend if they actully *want* to make money, but all in all Ive had a blast getting to where I am and wouldnt trade it for all the gil in the game.

    So true.

I did cooking because it was cheap and I was amazed that I could use a crystal and make stuff <_<; back in 2003. Then took up fishing, was alright at first but after realising that 100 fishing doesn't really net you that much more than 70 fishing, I stopped. It's profitable but I hate how cooking recipes always use 8 ingredients that are sold from vendors at opposite ends of Vanadiel.

If I got to do it over again I'd choose a craft where I could sign my own gear for personal reasons and then do cooking on a mule since it's so easy to level.

I also did cooking. Dont do cooking. Siriusly.

    After getting butt fucked by ah & tenshodo camping rmt bastards for over a year I decided I'd delevel cooking (98.8) and have a shot at leveling gold so I could sign my own elemental rings. At 94.2 so far and even though its costing teh fucking earth, I'd do it all again for having a self signed aqua ring. I'm almost looking forward to the cash I'm going to have to blow at 106 to make a communion ring ^^;

Whatever you close, choose something that will give you a feeling of accomplishment when you make your first bit of really nice signed gear. And don't choose cooking.

Re: Your craft and why it's your craft.

My craft, if it can be called that, is digging. Way back during the hyperinflation, digging was incredibly profitable. I could dig up Petrified Logs, which were about 50k each. Since greens were sold from NPCs for dirt cheap, I was easily hooked by that kind of money.

These days, it's still profitable as long as I dig in the right place at the right time, and having a chocobo bred for it helps, too. I can't even imagine how horrible it would be to skill up from the beginning in today's economy.

I chose bonecraft because way back in the day(like 2003? some time after na release) I saw this jp mithran ninja running around in a scorpion harness. I knew I wanted to make those right then.

I did alchemy just because I liked the concept of alchemy, not for any ingame reasons.

Has made me billions of gil over the years through hard work, can't complain and wouldn't change it if I could.

this might sound goofy, but i picked clothcraft because my mom spends a lot of time spinning and knitting in the IRL, so it was just something that I was familiar with. I was curious how true-to-life the craft would be, and just enjoyed leveling it up for a game within a game. I did the 99 to 100 loss of millions just because lvl 99 just felt unfinished. And honestly, i do feel better about accomplishing a full, round 100, and it feels good every time someone asks what level i am. This all sounds silly and cute, but after all, I made the decision back when this game was still a cute little game, and not a full-fledged hobby.

Re: Your craft and why it's your craft.

Cooking. I like to cook in real life and figured do what ya love. I also figured food was a consumable and there would always be a market for it. That and I did level some mage jobs. Juices are very useful pre refresh and since they don't stack making them on the spot is best. Zosi is correct... Don't choose cooking. Cooking is profitable, but it's asmall profit... very small. That being said would I choose another craft if i could go back in time? Nope. Seriously, I can barely afford to level cooking and it's one of the cheapest to level.

P.S I am also leveling all possibly needed subs for cooking (alchemy, leather, woodworking) up a bit just on the off chance I could be useful to someone.

It was the same for me! *_* I wanted the Opaline set and I wanted it signed.
Then I levelled WW on my RDM mule and I saw it was nice and funny, so I dropped CC to skill a bit GS to be the ultimate combo.
And I found GS a lot interesting too, but maybe a less funny then CC *_*

Re: Your craft and why it's your craft.

first, i leveled alchemy. to 10, and wondered why i couldn't skill up anymore. when i was maybe a lv 8 rdm. i leveled it because crawlers kept killing me with poison, so i harvested up winjinruits and made antidotes. when it stopped skilling (bc i needed to take the test, duh) i quit.

then, i did leather to, like, 22 or something. when i was lv 20 something. because i was going to make ram leather for millions of gil. somehow i never really got past dhamal mantles, got bored and moved on to my next big idea.

then at level 50ish i took up smithing and gold both to lv 60ish. i was mining a lot at the time and wanted to be able to ingot my ores for longer runs/break down moblin gear more successfuly. smithing i did in a total binge, lv 15 to 50 in a day and only stopped bc i was out of gil >.>. i even did guildpoints for gold, for glasses and that "synth support" belt for breaking down moblin crap in the field. i still mine occationally when i am out of other ideas, so having these leveled to this extent is not something i regret.

then i noticed a friend who chocobo dug *constantly* never had gil issues, and was even buying a dragon harness when it was still 30m (pre big inflation, when 30m was really a lot of gil). which is when i put down my pickaxes (mostly anyway) and picked up digging as my craft. finally dinged a10 recently, and altho it is not the goldmine it used to be, it is more then sufficient for my day to day needs.

which is the long version of why choco digging is my craft.
