superman™ doomsday (the movie)

so i just watched it, it was pretty good but i remember the comic having a lot more content to it like the 4-5 different super-types that spawned when he "died" and they didn't show it in the movie... i realize that stuff has to be cutout to make room but i don't recall a lot of the stuff happening at the end in the movie appearing in the comic (it could be the fact that i haven't read it in like 12 years lol).

The movie was good for what it was, but i don't recall a lot of the comic to compare it.

I'm wondering if someone else with more knowledge of the comic saw it and could relate more personal knowledge of the situation.

It wasn't meant to follow the comics to the letter. It's a continuation of a story arc from the Justice League Unlimited cartoons. It's merely inspired by Death and Return of Superman.

I didn't like it much personally, I couldn't get into the story and the art was just distracting. (What was up with the black lines in his face?)

The movie has nothing to do with the DCAU cartoons. They just have similar character design.

And that's pretty much how Doomsday originally showed up. He wasn't underground, but its still essentially, "oh shit, its a big strong dude!"

I do not think it is based off of Earth-D. (D for Dini.) For starters, the main voice actors are all different. (And no offense to James Marsters, but I can't imagine that anyone could easily fill the shoes that Clancy Brown left for Lex Luthor.) Also, spoilers ahoy. It was revealed that Doomsday was created by Cadmus during the JLU run, meaning that it would make no sense that he was found in a spaceship. Superman fought Doomsday once before (twice if you count the Justice Lords version of Superman), and after that battle Doomsday was banished into the Phantom Zone, meaning that is really doesn't make sense that he was found in a buried spaceship.

In the JLA cartoons, I thought Doomsday was already captured by the JLA and jailed into a pocket dimension by them? I don't think it's a continuation but a retelling of the death of Superman. I thought it was good. The movie had some good fight scenes in it.

The things I didn't like about the movie was Superman's face. Wtf? He sort of looked like two face. And Lois Lanes new VA was fucking horrible.

ok, even though its a semi travesty since its not kevin conroy, the batman (the newish one) had an adjustment in season 4, they made the bruce wayne/batman more like animated series batman, they also started a mini justice league setup, AND got lex luthor from diniverse, as well as a really bad ass superman, great voice for him too

check out season 5 the batman, Ive decided to watch it, its good so far

For fuck sakes its animated, can they atleast follow the original arc a little, just by having Doomsday/Superman doesnt justify the movie

My review: Utter Garbage with a little hint of Hollywood re-write bullshit, a dash of non-continuity, and a sprinkle of milking a franchise which hasnt succeeded since the late '70's

Most Comic Book movies do so and so, if Ghost Rider & FF: Rise of the SS can do 100mil+ in the box office, Superman Returns was a cakewalk for WB to atleast come out in the black

The problem with most of Superman's villains is that they are lame. Sure, you have Brainiac, Mongol, and Darkseid, but then you have losers like Toyman, Prankster, Parasite, Metallo, Bizarro, and (yuck) Livewire. Out of all of them, only Darkseid is interesting enough to make it into a movie, but it would be so violent that there is no way it would get a PG rating.

And thusly, we are stuck with Lex.

Unless they decide to bring back (super yuck) Terra-Man.

Or (ultra yuck) the Wicked Warlock...

It was funny how Superman owned him, by out thinking him
(my favorite was the messed up draft story Clark was writing for the paper, and all the mistakes spelled out Mr Mxyzptlk name backwards)
(btw getting Mr Mxyzptlk to say/write/mention/see/etc. his name backwards = weakness, gets booted back to the 5th dimension)

The next movie can be the entrance of Braniac, him learning/siding with Luthor in the beginning then backstabbing him, and a little go around with Mr Mxyzptlk (for lulz)
(Superman cant always go Hulk Smash or Oh Shit Lois is in trouble for thr 978,356,890,701st time, can do some good if somehow Superman uses his smarts/logic to outsmart the situation to be a better overall character)
