    Thoughts on Jobs-Subjobs?

Haven't seen very much on this so far...

On the Surface it seems like a fairly cheap way to add abilities, with a job and job trait running to 20FP only, and each job having multiple abilities. Adding RNG and RNG trait would give 3 Accuracy Bonuses at L50 for example, WAR would give a defense bonus, an accuracy bonus and Double Attack etc.

It's been reported that subjobs get all the abilities for the mobs level (instead of half the mobs level), and the mobs only seem to get passive traits, not the active ones.

Anyone been doing much experimenting with using Jobs, Subjobs and Traits as a way of cheaply raising abilities?

You can't raise up the trait bonuses (Like Double Attack or Defense/Attack/Evasion/Magic/Accuracy Bonuses). I think it's a good way to get some good abilities such as Double Attack or Accuracy Bonus (if multiple), but I don't know if anyone has tested these kinds of things...and I think we might be a while before anyone is able to (or wants to).

Would really like to know the difference between traits and sub jobs.
Atm I am using triple attack+15% and job trait: monk, it works pretty good on most mobs but I seem to always get screwed on anything with stun/drain attack. If I could dump triple attack (47FP) for war sub (8FP) and get double attack+10%, berserk, and defense bonus I'd do it in a second.

    Re: Thoughts on Jobs-Subjobs?

Subjobs probably increase MP+HP, base stats, and give you access to any spells your sub would get.

Trait plates give you job traits from that subjob, at the level they would be learned at. My WAR/THF wyvern has traits for both of its jobs, but while it can double attack, it never triple attacks.

Berserk is a job ability, not a job trait, but you would get attack/defense bonus and DA with WAR+Traits.

For the purposes of Pankration, a subjob is equivalent in level to the main job.

I'm not sure that this is true. I've never seen my pet Double Attack when MNK/WAR and I'm 47 and used WAR traits for a while.

and yet there are plenty of reports of spells from subjobs being usable as if the sub's level wasn't halved

    Re: Thoughts on Jobs-Subjobs?

My drk/war skeleton started casting drain at lvl 10, but my war/drk skeleton has yet to cast it (both on defensive) at lvl 16, so I don't know if that is even true.Spells are not traits though and not one of my war sub pets has ever double attacked with war traits before hitting 50 (currently 3 with war sub@50), so I really do not think you get sub job traits based on your main jobs level. I have always felt they are given the same way we get them.

I will gladly go test this though. Simple enough making a stego /mnk instead of mnk main and seeing if it will counter at lvl 10.

There's a MNK/PLD crab on Midgar who casts cure, so I'm not sure.

PLD sucks balls, I just removed it from my pet, and now it can actually knock down some hp off the mobs. My pet still is a lump of acrolyth shit, but at least now with me feeding it attack stuff it'll be somewhat better.

my acrolyth was PLD and mobs lower level than it were beating him up hardcore. Changed him back to warrior and now he is delicious.

an FYI, Acrolyths can be set to main job BLM.

Triple Attack is level 55, isn't it?

My understanding was that all the traits were limited by the level a PC could use them. My mimic is a WAR with WAR trait, and I never saw it DA before 25, but as soon as it hit 25 it's been double attacking pretty regularly. It's main issue is accuracy (it never loses to mobs within ~8 levels of it, but it sometimes draws because it misses a fair bit).

I have 19 free points now, which will be 23 when it hits 50. Was thinking that /RNG with RNG traits when it hits 35 (and gets an extra FP) would give me 2 accuracy bonuses and may be the most efficient way to strengthen that, IF I get the 3 Accuracy bonuses (at 10/30/50). If it's limited to L25 for a sub though, I'd only get the one bonus which wouldn't be worth it...

which is exactly why I mentioned that it couldn't triple attack.

    Re: Thoughts on Jobs-Subjobs?

Just hit 50 on my king arthro crab, so it came pld/war. it has damage resistance, instant stoneskin and phalanx, and very few mobs can beat it within the time window, however, it has no offensive ability.

On the main job - subjob train of thought, this could be a stupid question, but does mnk subjob allow a mob to attack twice the same way as if it was a main job? or is that only mnk main? I ask because I've had multiple people saying it does work that way, but i can't test it, because if i do switch to mnk sub and it doesn't work, i can't get my free war sub back

(unless subjob is the same as main job, where if you replace the original with a plate then remove the plate, it reverts back to the original?)

That's a good question...I'll answer it tomorrow. I'll go put /MNK on my new SAM crab...we'll see how it plays out...with luck it will be hitting with two hands and getting TP by the tons.

Astarael just so you know I'm still working on making my crab /MNK...seem to be having a hard time getting the plate though...tons of main job MNK and MNK trait plates but 0 of the /MNK ones. Just wanted to keep you updated.

Yes crabs can be turned into monks and attack twice a round, counter, etc. I've seen alot of crabs do exactly that.

Funny thing is, Tree's can be turned into monks as well, to have 100% double attack.
