My video card is fried and I'm using a back-up until I finish building my new PC. I've been thinking of coming back for a while but just can't. Blowing up carebears was fun while it lasted.

If you know you're going to start when DUST comes out, tbh I'd start asap to build up your skills seeing as EVE moves in real time.

I've been reading alot about eve for the past few days, and am starting to get interested in starting it up. Is it a lost cause at this point, dead game etc like ffxi?

If not, any tips for a brand new player? Should I buy the box set, should I just download it etc... Also I recently bought a new PC, AMD quad-core 2.2Ghz with 6 gigs of ram. But no video card, so what is a good (cheap because I'll probably have to upgrade the power supply too) video card to aim for to run eve well on max-ish settings?

Edit: forgot to mention PC has onboard nvidia geforce 9100, and a free PCIx16 slot.

IMO EVE is far form being a dead game, they just beat their top number of players online again couple of days ago, and they release 2 free expansions every year to keep the game updated with new content, and DUST is on its way.

Box set seems kinda cool, but I would just DL it if I were you, think all the box set adds is some exclusive shuttle and instant militia access(militia is a form of PvP in the game, takes place in the safer sides of space so its easy and more accessible for newer players), but imo I would play a bit and gain an understanding for the game and make some money, then join the militia, besides if your day one into the militia everyone thinks your a spy neways lol. Takes a while to get into the game but once you do it's worth it

My grfx card is Gforce 9400 DDR2 1gb and it runs it on full settings just fine, not sure what the minimum would be though

So much to my surprise, my onboard graphics ran this just fine. I didn't push my luck by turning on bloom or the other advanced shading features, but all the textures were on high.

Download + install took a little under an hour, long story short I made a caldari combat pilot. I was really impressed with the tutorials, and have started my career missions all in just a couple hours of playtime last night.

a lot or a little? I've always noticed around a 1-2 sec window lag w/ EVE

I don't use bloom either graphics look just fine w/ textures and all on high, bloom just adds extra stress to your card for a small change in grfx

I wouldn't call it alot of lag, just enough to be noticeable/annoying really... The thing that bugs me the most is how even when rolling the mouse over different menus the highlight + sound lags behind the mouse pointer by a noticeable amount.

I'll need to hop on the Gartr channel. I just came back and I'm kinda flying solo right now. I'm still part of the channel of my old corp, but no one really talks in there and they've left the NW Gallente borders and traded off to go border the Russians. Don't get on much between it and FFXI (often choosing FFXI since I at least level up and make money in EVE continually) and wouldn't mind an active channel while flying solo.

I'm playing. In Wildly Inappropriate. Yeah I'm NC scum, but I get alot of pewpew, except for the fact that CCP has completely broken servers and we seem to crash nodes left and right.

I actually am working on a trade alt that I will be putting into a corp I create so that I am not taxed etc. If people want a place just PM me here and Ill shoot you details. Basically if you're in a NPC corp you get taxed now so this will be a way to avoid it.

yea I got a trade alt to but don't wanna put her in my PvP corp cuz wardecs and all, and NPC corp is 11% =/
