I don't follow Eve often but when I do, it's always dramatic. Downfall of Eve or just some shit people will get over in a few months? I've played the trial for this multiple times but couldn't get myself full involved with it past the tutorial.
bunch of poorfags whining, that is all.
It was mentioned in the mmo dick moves list, but are there actually ships that can be bought in the game, even for insane amounts of isk, that would basically make the player god-like? I am referring the the dick move of starting a bank, then walking out with billions to buy a super ship and put a bounty on his own head. It seems so contrary to MMO design to allow any player to be THE most powerful player in the game by far.
Supercapital fleets yeah. Supercarriers and Titans, Titans being the more expensive and larger of the two:

Bump. EVE's 15th free expansion comes out tomorrow. Who's still playing? I'm extremely excited of all the changes coming.
Seems like no one posts here too often lately, but here is a shoutout to any EVE players still around.
Short story here, it is hopefully not to boring.
A few days ago, my lowsec friends and I went and put a Raiden. tech moon pos into RF. Came back friday to kill it when it came out of RF, shortly after we landed to take the pos out, NC. bridged in as well, and started to take the moon for themselves. We were outnumbered a lot, and had to play warping games to try and split up their fleet. Just ended up being mostly a waste of time. Raiden. then brought in their own fleet shortly afterwards, and they started to fight eachother. I got bored and left because it was now like 200-250 in local, and we had much fewer numbers. Managed to get on a Nidhoggur kill. What a crap day. Can't link on the forums yet.
(( Anyway, my char name is the same in EVE, so feel free to look it up if you want.
Nice to meet you guys.
This is why I continue to play EVE Online:

A player run event which hopes to burn all ships in the largest trade hub in the game. Not only that, but CCP Dev's working throughout the weekend to ensure the node supporting the system doesn't go down, along with deploying a hot fix to make the counter-ganks even easier. The Dev Blog is a really good read. If you click comments at the top and read through you get a better idea of how awesome the Dev's are. There's even a post by one of the Devs with statistics on the kills
It was pretty interesting to see the killmails coming out of the event, though if I'm reading things right, while the value loss was sexy looking numbers, not a HUGE numbers of freighters got popped. It seems like Hulkageddon is going to be the bigger economy shifter, especially with no more drone metal/primo scrapable modules.
And of course, OTEC becoming an actual thing, the next few months are going to be interesting as hell to watch. Such a shame I can't actually get in there.
Also, even though I have no real hardware/coding/networking skills, the dev blogs on how they handle and optimize that stuff are always fascinating reads.
o/ just wanted to say hi to my fellow capsuleers. Been playing forever, but don't actually find myself logging in all that much. I like the idea of EVE much more than I like the game itself... especially since I don't really have any friends in New Eden. I'm hoping DUST changes that, but my console peasant friends are all on 360.
Is this shit free to play yet? Any plans on it becoming f2p? I can't justify paying for an mmo like this. Seems like a fulltime job that I'm paying for. (I mean I guess that could be said of most MMOs but this one in particular seems to require a gross amount of keeping track of your shit, waiting and managing resources, which would be awesome if it was free.)
No, but you can pay for your subscription using in-game money if you want, so if you make enough/month you can play for free.
I take it that is not a reasonable achievement for somebody just starting out.
just starting out? no probably not. it wouldn't take terribly long to get to that point, though. maybe a couple months. you'd need to do research on it and figure out where best to buy/sell, or what the best missions are, where the richest carebears hide out, that sort of thing. It's just like any other game, really. If you're focused enough, you can achieve quite a lot even at a low "level"
Edit: Plus, the longer you play the easier it gets. There's a few relatively passive income types (Planetary Interaction, moon mining) that you can do in the background while you also mine/gank/run missions/trade or whatever you find that you enjoy.
Hmmm, during E3, CCP will be holding a party at pɹɐpuɐʇs ǝɥʇ. Free and easy to get in, too. Eve AND Dust high ups in attendance.
Hmmmmm.
I've attended the last 2 EVE fanfests in Iceland and I can say with first hand experiences that CCP knows how to throw a fucking party. Any interesting stories? If you got a good one I can tell you about the time a corp mate of mine threw up on a Playboy model while on a dev pub crawl.....
The only crazy thing that happened was Jon Landers (Unifex) jumped into the pool in protest to the closing of the bar. Hilmar went in shortly after.
I was lucky, one of the DUST team thought (I guess) I was interesting enough conversation (shut up, it's possible) that I got an invite to the after-party.
So from 1 to 5 AM I got to spend a huge amount of time with the devs, compared to a moderate amount during the party.
And good god can they hold their liquor, I don't like being around drunk people who go all dumb, but these dudes were lucid on all pistons the whole way through.
I talked to Manifest about the odds of some random dude* from LA getting hired as a GM, and the reaction was ok enough, that as soon as they start hiring again (they just hired a bunch a month ago), I'm going to apply for it. Because these people.

Spoiler: show
I was already addicted to EVE before fanfest but what you described is exactly how the whole week goes. They have 1 offical Dev Pub Crawl event but if you're in Reykjavik the week before fanfest you can go to the bar and just shoot the shit with random devs all the time. I totally second their drinking abilities. In Iceland bars are open until 6am and the party doesn't seem to stop there. Fanfest opens at like 9am everyday and you can start getting beer then. Most people are drinking all day during the event, then when it comes to the pub crawl, you are givin a bottle of Brennivin and beer tickets to take on the pub crawl. I don't think i've ever been so drunk in my life.
So this last year our group had a playboy model who was there to cover the event. Apparently she started writing in the technology section of the mag. Well we had one of our corp dudes who was pretty shit faced before we even head out. We get to the first bar and are hitting the bottle pretty hard. Right before we go in, he says "i don't feel to good" and then proceeds to throw up all over this playboy models feet. Her shoes were covered in puke. The best part was it was right in front of the bouncer. The dude pops up and says "DONT WORRY ITS ONLY FOAM IM GOOD". She surprisingly wasn't pissed. Cleaned her shoes off and we partied the night away.
If you're at the event or at the pub crawl all the devs seem really willing to actually listen to what you have to say. I got into like an hour long conversation with CCP Greyscale 2 years ago right after he announced the anom nerf. We went back and forth on it and he was able to actually explain the logical reason why they were going about the changes they were making.
I want that Soundwave soundboard.
