Re: Worth buying Xbox 360 for Halo3?

I wonder where you heard it from... ;p

I just finished playing through Blue Dragon... whoever said it takes 60 hours without any side quests was bluffing, I beat the game just short of 30 hours (ignoring grinding xp or wasting time doing sidequests completely..)
It's got an extremely slow paced story during the first CD (even though the beginning is pretty entertaining.. it just cools off after that)... towards the end of CD1 it starts picking up and actually explains a thing or two. CD2 is full of actual storyline, but again... nothing spectacular or anything like that. CD3 is pretty much a filler for its first half, and full of side quests during the second half (but you can just go directly to the last area, which is what I did..)

I beat the game at level 48... I did have to level everyone's white magic for the final fight (for zephyra/curaga and for the double item ability), but other than that I didn't mess with the classes too much.

The game only has two actual "twists", and even then they're not that big a deal (and both happen towards the end of the game..)

If anything though, the music is pretty good, the final boss music is AMAZING in my opinion (Uematsu tried recreating One Winged Angel I suppose... it resembles it in many differnet ways)... all in all the game definitely deserves a shot. Even if you start off and think there's no way you can enjoy it, by the time you beat the final boss you'll be glad you picked the game up.

Re: Worth buying Xbox 360 for Halo3?

For halo3 alone? Id say no; TBH im dissapointed in the campaign, I ran through legendary with no real difficulty. But then again all the hype was just online play, Which fucking delivers. Game mechanics and small improvements towards online battle such as:XBR XBX Super Jumps (Which were placed intentionally) Double Shooting Being removed make online so much more enjoyable.

    XBOX 360 offer's many other things in fact its my most used console aside my PC for FFXI; PS3 saw some light for a week or two, WarHawk is simply an amazing game. The Dashboard just rapes shit and the small quirks make it hot. Btw private Chat PMS girls ftw lol, Also don't forget the arcade^^;

Warhawk cooled down recently... it's was fun while it lasted, but it's becoming too old and boring and they haven't added anything new yet so until they do it's kind of dead.

The series that has defined the Xbox brand for the past six years has reached its just conclusion. The game is the new benchmark for what can and should be done with Xbox Live. Four player online co-op, saved films and screenshots to share over Bungie.net, complete stat tracking, the innovative Forge, and all of the same online battles we know and love make this the complete package. The feature set alone is unrivaled and the campaign isn't half bad either. This is the game that many bought an Xbox 360 for and it's hard to say it wasn't worth it.

Lots of people bought an Xbox360 knowing that Halo3 would come out for it some day, hahaha. Yeah, buy it for Halo 3 if you really want to play it. Then you're going to realize that there's also a ton of other great games on the 360. My personal favorites throughout owning a 360 have been Oblivion, Hitman: Blood Money, Bioshock, Stranglehold, Dead Rising, Forza Motorsport 2, and a ton of others that I forget. Halo 3 too, of course. Xbox live arcade has a ton of good games coming out now as well. Streets of Rage 2 and Fatal Fury Special have come out recently and their xbox360 versions are good.

Xbox Live arcade is huge to me. It is actually probably a solid 50% of the reason I like my 360 so much. They have games on there that are actual arcade games, games not on any console. The Wii online game buying thing is decent I guess, but I still have a working 64/snes/nes with a huge collection of working games for them, so it's kinda useless to me. The 360 arcade is just awesome.

And to the actual question, Yes, halo3 is worth buying a 360 over If you like FPS games and are ok playing on a console.

To me, yes, its worth it.

The game is, like others have pointed out, Halo 2 in HD, but its online system is second to none. Its campaign is short, but has a few very epic stages (Stage 7 was amazing), and 4 player online co-op makes it a fun experience, if just for the laughs everyone shares. More than that, it serves as the best example of what Xbox Live can and should be, with its reliance on your Windows Live ID and Bungie.net for a comprehensive list of statistics, 360 to Internet screenshots, etc.

No, if youre just buying a 360 for one game, you should just wait for the PC release.

Re: Worth buying Xbox 360 for Halo3?

I personally wouldn't buy a 360 for Halo 3 because I am not a fan of the Halo series persay.

With that said though, the 360 definitely has the best library out of the 3 new consoles and it still has a very solid fall/winter/early 08 coming (Mass Effect, Call of Duty 4, Lost Odyssey, Ninja Gaiden 2) just to name a few.

And if you are looking for a solid online experience and community than definitely pick up the console. If you aren't gonna get Xbox Live though, then don't bother.

Re: Worth buying Xbox 360 for Halo3?

I'm having the same dilemma. I don't get out to my brother's house enough to play. I would rather meet him online from my apartment anyway and save me the gas.

So what kind of expenses am I looking at? I did a quick scan on amazon.com

    Xbox $350
    Halo $60
12 months of Xbox Live $45

Any cool accessories I might want?

play and charge kit is $20, unless you like going through batteries like mad.

it comes with a wired headset, if you want a wireless one they're like $60.

other than those, isnt really much else you'd want.

Yeah, the play and charge kit is clutch if the 360 is within 7-8 ft of you. However, do NOT get the wireless headset, it's heavy/uncomfortable, only has a ~10 hour life span, and constantly unsyncs and resyncs with your system so there may be times when the people talking to you are heard on your speakers. The wired headset plugs into the bottom of your controller (NOT your 360, like a certain someone thought), so unless you have a giraffe neck, it should be fine.

But yeah, AAs are WAY too expensive to burn through like that... play and charge kit is a nice thing to have.

Or you could get rechargable NiMH batteries and use it for everything that requires AA!

Re: Worth buying Xbox 360 for Halo3?

    lol

$20 isn't much to pay for a play and charge kit to have forever. And it is nice that you can play while charging (hence the name).

While I think $60 was steep for the wireless headset I have had 0 of the problems the previous poster mentioned, and it is not heavy at all. The battery life is a nonissue since you can charge it every time you aren't using it.

I've been thinking about buying a wireless headset since the one I have now is starting to act up. I have to scream into the damn thing with it haflway in my mouth to get people to hear me sometimes.

Did you think it was worth it Po?

gotta laugh at whoever thought the wired headset plugged into the 360, but as far as the wireless one goes ive never heard of anyone having the issues you said of, and who needs more than 10hours of battery life? you seriously play that many hours straight with a headset on?

Re: Worth buying Xbox 360 for Halo3?

yeah, I never understood the point of the wireless headset. If you have a wireless controller, having the headset plug into the controller is not a problem at all...

Anyway, if you buy an Xbox 360 now, make sure you get the 65nm CPU model. The power consumption is way less and shouldn't overheat as easily (avoiding the red ring of death)
