For a moment I thought you actually had a clue, then you delved into wishy-washyness and, "oh poor Taj he needs to grow up, but he just can't control himself, he's only a kid!" You've been supporting him the entire time while he's done so many clearly wrong things and that's the best you can say? I'm disappointed.

I did not say he cannot control himself, I said he has not learned boundaries. I personally feel that the boundary issue is often hand in hand with maturity. I said he personally feels that perhaps he is bad. I don't feel he is, which means I think he does have some method of control; he just stupidly chose not to use it in this case.

So yeah, whatever Taj did to get in, he did of his own knowledge and his own holes he found in the code of whatever forum software you use. We run PHPbb3, we keep it updated, we run extra security (especially after our last server incident where we lost a month), we keep shit locked up tight. It will protect you against a lot of stuff, it wont protect you from shitty fucking passwords, use comment sense, my current favorite number is 13, it involves alternating caps, numbers, and characters.

My passwords are not shitty, atleast for forum admin accounts etc. The problem here is that BG becomes the center of the problem, the people that the led off from all had accounts here. Sadly, like I said in my PM, my ultima login and BG login were the same unintentionally... but for sure, it was not a weak password. Our VB was patched and generally well protected, I did not apply the same tight rules to that server as I do for my work enviroment, but I work for finanical groups.... a gaming forum server isnt what I considered top-target-material... although we have been attacked by china gateways numbers of times, seems someone likes to try anyway.

Anyway, I dont see where else he would have gotten the password since that password is not used but only in two places.

Im raising awareness here too, dont blame it in BG forums or our security, it might not be your financial group system, but the new server is doing its job protecting me and mine(BG LS members) from evil.

To all the people who are saying its going to end up costing them just $25: just don't forget they'll probably have to pay ANOTHER $25 to just get back to the server they were on, and after about 90 more days...

I seriously doubt SE will reverse these server transfers. $50 is a nice chuck of change, and being away from all your friends on another server just adds salt to the wound. It's like the screw job that keeps on screwing. They may get most of their stuff back, but in the end, they still wind up getting screwed no matter what.

I wouldn't wish this kind of thing on anyone.

So let me get this straight.

Taj first hacks into someone's e-mail account and posts a receipt of them buying gil. Everyone is cool with this because hey, RMTs suck!

Taj then hacks into someone's forum and posts a series of PM where they discussed selling FFXIclopedia to Wikia and the fundraiser money. Everyone is still cool with this because hey, they were ripping us off!

Finally Taj hacks into the accounts of 9 seperate people, only one of whom had ANY connection to anything shady, NPCed and tossed a bunch of gear, gil, what-have-you, moved them all to different servers, made at least some of them pay the transfer fee, and stranded them there for 90 days while he came onto BG and basically strung them along for 20 pages before someone finally had the guts to come forward and post what they knew. And some people are *still* saying that hey, they probably deserved this too? Wow.

Giving them a free Herald's Gaiters? Don't make me laugh. How many Tiamats could they have killed in the 90 days they're gonna be stuck off server? How many Fafnirs, how many Dynamis runs, how many Salvages, how many Khimairas? How much time are they gonna have to spend on the phone with SE trying to get everything sorted out? This is really reprehensible, and to see anyone trying to defend it makes me sick. If Taj is old enough to play FFXI, then he's old enough to know right from wrong and to take responsibility for his own damn actions. He's got a proven pattern of escalating things until he finally crosses the line, and if you let things go now he's only going to keep repeating his actions.

While I appreciate your sentiment, and I'm sure the others in the LS do as well, that isn't the half of it, sadly. People wonder where people go, have to rebuild a new LS for the time being, have to figure out how to recreate the linkshell with the same name... everyone is whacked out, people don't know what's going on, so it must be discussed multiple times a day and explained. Schedules are screwed up, everyone feels insecure, its just a giant, huge, heaping messy pile. I honestly never thought I'd see the day where Ultima LS from Valefor of all LS's would end up being a drama hotspot, and believe you me, it sucks more than face value suggests it does.

To everyone saying 'Eh, Taj gave accounts/this/that/theother back so you guys are 'only' out 25 bucks, hey, get your head out of your asses. That's about the same as someone walking up to you and taking 25 dollars out of your pocket, just to have everyone around you saying 'meh, could be worse, its all good!'. The sheer frustration and confusion amassing from all of this is more of an issue than $25, that's just adding fuel to the fire. Someone wants to buy gil and you want to hate them for it? Ok, go for it. That still leaves, what, 7 people who are completely innocent, had no clue what was going on, and are genuinely good people having to screw with SE support, stupid GM's, paying an extra $50 they should not have to pay, why, so some kid can have his jollies?

I personally didn't yell about the FFXIwiki shit, and I don't really feel like yelling now. I will say that something is wrong when the majority of the bitching about the wiki scandal is coming from people who didn't donate, but it seems like no one is looking for blood on both sides when someone personally attacks a few players. I would be doubting the intellect of the reader if I recited the definition of a double standard, but then again... who's reading?

My point is, be glad he didn't do more damage than he did, god knows he could have.

Just take the 50 bucks loss, change your fucking passwords, and don't PM them through fucking message boards and keep the same passwords for DECADES next time KNOWING they could possibly be compromised (because the fact is, if someone in MY ls got compromised like Divisor did, I would be changing my password every fucking week.) Lesson learned, right?

Like I said before, sure, it was an extremely heartless and shitty thing to do, and cruel, and mean, and all that good jazz... but sitting here calling him a monster and etc etc isn't getting anyone's money back.

And honestly, if nothing else, Taj definitely is a good judge of character. There's never been anyone more trustworthy than E, nobody better to trust with his account info without fear of repercussion. I know I couldn't have done it without getting frisky, either.

Also, I'm willing to bet that a week from now Sera will be fully convinced none of this ever happened, and Taj will remain king of teh internetz. Seriously, the "Yeah sure, Taj is a bad boy, but look guyz LOLRMT!" deal has been played out. We get it. We really do.

saying "oh wow shitsux guess I better not trust people" really won't help either way. no one gets their money back, no one gains anything except SE and Taj's jollies. even though it's probably the only thing anyone can do at this point, other than call Visa/Mastercard/AmEx and get their $$ back, complaining/venting/discussing on here and making a big deal about it is a lot better than just saying "oh hay baibai $50 too bad 4 meee"
